1 Install a LensMechanix network license This article explains how to install a network license for LensMechanix. For instructions on how to install a single-user license for LensMechanix, see Activate a Single User License. Before you begin the installation: Ensure that the key server is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or later or Windows Server 2012 or later. Verify that port 1947 is available on your network, as the softkey network licenses communicate through this port. If this port is already in use, contact LMxSupport@Zemax.com for instructions on how to modify it. Confirm that each client computer can ping the key server computer, regardless of whether you re using a dedicated key server or hosting the network license on a client computer. Install the software and activate your network softkey license Note: For installations on computers without Internet access, you must install the.net Framework (Offline Installer) before you install the Zemax License Manager. 1. Log on to the key server as an administrator. 2. Browse to the OpticStudio installation page, expand the Resource Files section, and click Zemax License Manager to download and install it. 3. After the installation is completed, click Start > Zemax License Manager and select to open the Zemax License Manager. 4. Activate your license. If your server is connected to the Internet: In the Zemax License Manager dialog box, click the New key tab. Enter the network softkey activation code provided to you by the Zemax Sales Team and click Apply License.

2 If your server is not connected to the Internet: In the Zemax License Manager dialog box, click Launch Sentinel Admin Control Center. Click Diagnostics, and then click Create ID File. Send the resulting.id file from your Downloads folder to Note: After receiving your.id file, the LensMechanix Support Team will send you a.v2c file for activation. Save the.v2c file you receive from the LensMechanix Support Team to a convenient location on the machine you are activating, such as the Downloads folder.

3 Click Update/Attach in the Sentinel Admin Control Center. Click Choose File and browse to select your.v2c file. Click Apply File to complete the activation. 5. Open the Zemax License Manager and click License Information to verify the number of seats you purchased and the support expiration date. 6. Click Launch Sentinel Admin Control Center and then click Configuration. Note: The six tabs in the Configuration section enable you to set a password for the server, restrict users or computers, log usage, and enable license checkout for offline use. For a

Ensure that you are logged in as an administrator on the client computer. 2. In the that the Zemax Sales Team sent you, click the Download link. 3. Run the LensMechanix installer. 4. When the installation is completed, open LensMechanix and verify it is working. See either the Help Manual or the LensMechanix Installation, Activation, and Licensing video for more information. Note: If the client computer is located on the same network as your server, LensMechanix automatically detects the network license. If it doesn t detect the network license, see Troubleshooting FAQs. Optional: Check out a license seat on the client computer for use offline If the administrator of your network key server has enabled detachable licenses per the instructions in the How Do I Monitor and Control Usage of the Network Key? article, you can check out a license seat for use offline using the following steps. 1. Open the Zemax License Manager by clicking Start > All Programs > LensMechanix > Zemax License Manager. 2. Confirm that your network license is listed with a Network license type and has a Check Out button like the one in the following screenshot. Tip: If the Check Out button is grayed out, check the list of keys to ensure you don t already have a LensMechanix license checked out (look for a license with an expiration date and a Check In button).

5 3. Click Check Out. Note: If the checkout is successful, a message appears indicating that the license was detached. The checked-out license information (including loan expiration) appears in the Zemax License Manager, as shown in the following screenshot. 4. After the license seat is checked out, disconnect the client computer from the network. 5. To return a license seat before it expires, click Check In. Note: To check in a license, your computer and the key server from which you checked out the license must be connected to the same network.

6 Troubleshooting FAQs What should I do if I can see a LensMechanix license on my client computer but can t open LensMechanix? In the Zemax License Manager, review the following settings: Seats Confirm that the number of available seats is at least 1. You can t open LensMechanix unless another client computer stops using the license. Support expiration If a red square appears around the support expiration date, the license is either invalid or expired and can t be used to run LensMechanix. Check with the administrator of the key server to see if support needs to be renewed, or if there s a problem with the license. Set as default Verify that the license you ve selected as the default isn t an OpticStudio license, or an invalid or expired LensMechanix license. If necessary, click Clear Default Key and select a new default. What if a client computer can t find the network license? 1. On the client computer where you intend to run LensMechanix, open a Web browser and browse to 2. In the Options panel, click Configuration. 3. Click Access to Remote License Managers. 4. In the Remote License Search Parameters box, type the computer name or the IP address of the network license server that you want to access.

7 5. Click Submit to save the change. 6. In the Options panel, click Sentinel Keys to check if the ZOS Server-Network license key is now available. Note: There may be a one-minute delay before the key information refreshes. 7. Restart your computer. 8. Open SOLIDWORKS and verify that LensMechanix loads properly. Note: If you can t access the network license, ask your network administrator to verify that access is allowed through the network firewall and on the Sentinel Admin Control Center page. 8 What if a client computer can t find the license on the server after I add the server information to the Sentinel Admin Control Center? The installation process typically opens the Windows firewall on the server for you automatically. If your client computers can t locate the key server after installation, complete the following steps to add a firewall exception for the Sentinel licensing service. Note: You typically only need to complete these steps on the key server computer. 1. Click Start and type Firewall in the search box to open the Windows Firewall settings. 2. Click the Windows Firewall app. 3. Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall. 4. Confirm that the License Manager appears in the list of applications. Important: If the License Manager already appears in the list, the issue is not related to a firewall. Contact lmxsupport@zemax.com for further assistance. 5. Click Allow another app.

9 Tip: If Allow another app is grayed out, click Change settings to activate it. 6. Click Browse and open the C:\Windows\system32 folder. 7. Select hasplms.exe. 8. Click Open. 9. Click Add to add the License Manager to the list of exceptions. 10. Select the Domain, Private, or Public check boxes in the License Manager row to specify which network types include this exception. If you are not sure which to select, select all.

10 Note: If the computer is not domain-joined, the Domain column does not appear. 11. For both UDP and TCP, ensure that port 1947 is not blocked on your network. Tip: Consult your IT department if you re unsure how to confirm that port 1947 it is not blocked.
