1 ICPe-PM2e CompactPCI Express Intel Pentium M Applications: Rugged Embedded Systems Avionics / Military Instrumentation Robotics Industrial Control and Automation Maintenance-Free Systems Traffic and Transportation Measurement & Control Homeland Security The Inova ICPe-PM2e is a true high-performance 3U CompactPCI Express system controller board, and takes advantage of the latest silicon available for optimized computing in terms of performance and power consumption. Built around the Intel 915GM chipset and ICH6-M controller hub, the CPU hosts both socketed and soldered processors to suit application requirements. In addition, passive and active cooling options are available, as is the choice to install a standard 1.8 parallel ATA HD or conventional CompactFlash (or even a µdoc Flash device). Regardless of mass storage choice, the CPU remains just 4HP wide. An additional independent gigabit LAN and a further 3x USB 2.0 interfaces are obtained by installing a plug-in CPU extension - with standard SATA mass-storage.

All CPUs are delivered with the CPU clock set to their minimum (600 MHz for processors with a 400 MHz FSB, or 800 MHz for processors with a 533 MHz FSB) - unless otherwise stated at time of order. The CPUs listed here are preferred (standard) off-the-shelf units. Other configurations with rear I/O options, different mass-storage configurations, or extension requirements are available for OEM or volume business. Slim-line (2.5 notebook) hard-disks up to 160 GByte (at time of press) are easily installed on the mass-storage CPU extension board supplied with the 8HP standard CPUs. When used with non-inova backplanes, a CPU version without rear I/O may be required. REAR I/O EXTENSIONS A range of full-length modules exists that add additional I/O to the already feature-packed front-panel I/O possibilities. By routing the LPC bus through the RXJ4 backplane connector, enables a Super I/O to be connected that provides CPU legacy support in the form of PS-2 mouse & keyboard and configurable serial COM interfaces. Not only is space saved on the main board, but also costs are cut since, not all applications require this kind of legacy permanently. A USB 2.0 hub provides four additional USB 2.0 interfaces, while a routed serial ATA line drives one serial ATA HD directly, or is processed via a serial to parallel converter for EIDE support. For network intensive applications, an RJ45 interface for fast Ethernet connections is implemented. Finally, for internal (local) communication, a stub module exists with HD support and USB 2.0 connectivity. 3 HIGH-PERFORMANCE LPC Bus for Rear I/O The standard Inova ICPe-PM2e configuration is ready to run - straight from the box. CPU scalability up to 2.0 GHz allows for plenty of leeway in today s high-tech and resource consuming applications. A generous 2 MByte of L2 cache backed by up to 2 GBytes of soldered double data rate (DDR2) RAM clocked at 400/ 533 MHz ensures the fastest processor-level data throughput of any comparable product. A dedicated hard disk carrier with additional gigabit Ethernet, integrated COM port, triple USB 2.0 and PS-2 mouse and keyboard interfaces connects directly to the base CPU. For additional versatility, rear I/O is provided, which, depending on the version, effectively extends the PCB by 80 mm. Serial or parallel (EIDE) notebook (automotive-grade or 24x7) hard disks are selected for their high capacity, small footprint, rugged operating conditions and higher operational temperature characteristics. COMPATIBILITY Fully compatible with existing operating system and application software, the ICPe-PM2e is also fully I/O compatible with existing solutions based on the CompactPCI standard. 3x USB 2.0 Chipset Graphic Reset Button REAR I/O INTERFACING CompactPCI (Express) has the broadest range of I/O available to it compared with other popular, standard industrial form factors. In fact, the cpcie technology accommodates the greatest I/O flexibility and the most I/O options ever available through a backplane. A growing number of applications, mainly in the telecommunications and industrial automation industries require rear 512 MB to 2 GB Soldered DDR2 RAM LVDS, USB, SATA, CF, 1x1 PCIe Lane + COM Interface I/O support for its ability to simplify service tasks by avoiding the error-prone, front re-cabling process. The Inova transition modules provide a clean interface between internal and external devices while maintaining EMI shielding and cooling integrity. The fulllength rear I/O panel gives the user a single, modular connection point for all external cables.

4 CompactPCI Express High-Performance CPU FEATURES Equipped with the latest silicon available on the market today, this rugged 3U CompactPCI Express CPU combines the low-power and high-performance of the Pentium M (Dothan) processors with the versatility of the Intel 915 chipset. New emerging technologies, such as Serial ATA (SATA) and PCI Express open up new application possibilities in mobile transportation, multimedia and harsh industrial environments. In addition, component selection from the Intel Embedded Roadmap ensures availability at least up until 2011 and RoHS (leadfree) manufacturing guarantees project security. The basic CPU is a single-slot version which can be expanded to include up to a 2 GByte µdoc Flash memory device, and either a CompactFlash socket for Type I/II devices or a standard 1.8 HD through an in-line expansion board. An 8HP version offers additional independent gigabit Ethernet, 3x USB 2.0, COM and PS-2 connectivity. For rugged, conductively cooled applications, the HD carrier can be slung on the underside of the board. INTERFACING To satisfy today s LAN-hungry industrial applications, Inova have implemented up to two independent gigabit Ethernet interface as standard on the CPU s 8HP front-panel. Connectivity is further enhanced through the integration of the latest USB 2.0 serial interfaces that permit a number of readily available peripherals to be utilized without compromising front panel width. MASS STORAGE For hard-core ruggedized applications, and thanks to the miniaturization of silicon components, Inova s engineers have placed up to 2 GByte USB Flash on-board through a µdoc device, or either a CompactFlash socket or a 1.8 HD interface with ZIF connector on a carrier that directly connects to the main board and does not protrude above the 4HP limit. SOFTWARE The standard x86 architecture enables the ICPe-PM2e to support Microsoft Windows operating systems, Linux, and real-time platforms such as VxWorks, or QNX. This product is recommended for use with Microsoft Windows XP (Embedded) & Linux. GRAPHICS Built into the chipset of the ICPe-PM2e is an analog VGA interface with BIOS configurable video RAM allocation extracted from the system memory. However, if other graphics formats are required without the added expense of a dedicated graphic board, Inova have routed the chipset PCI Express, LVDS and SDVO video signals through the HD carrier interface for custom solutions. PERIPHERALS The ICPe-PM2e supports standard PC peripherals e.g., USB mass-storage devices. Notebook style 2.5 hard disks may be connected directly to a carrier board (8HP) and possess their own frontpanel.
