10 Assembly & Handling Information Soldering connections should only be performed on designated solder pads. During soldering, do not exceed the maximum soldering time of 5 seconds and maximum soldering temperature of 380 C The mounting of the module on heat sink on lighting fixtures or luminaires is facilitated by means of M3 screws on the M3 screw hole/slots on the Metal-core circuit board. 4 units of M3 screw are recommended for mounting the light-source to enable maximum heat sinking from light-source to heat sink. The module should be tight fitted and on good thermal contact with the designed flat metallic mounting surface. Use of appropriate thermal compound is recommended to enhance heat spreading from lightsource to heat sink. Other wise, ensure light-source Tc temperature not exceeding maximum operating temperature of 85 C. To obtain maximum LED lifetime please observe carefully recommended procedures concerning thermal management on application note on Lifetime of LED module before designing and construction of luminaires. 15 Safety Information The LED module itself and all its components may not be mechanical stressed. Assembly must not damage or destroy conducting paths on the circuit board. The LED Module incorporates no protection against short circuits, overload or overheating. Therefore it is absolutely necessary to operate the modules with electronically stabilized power supply offering protection against the above mentioned safety risks. For dimming applications attention should be paid to specific references in OPTOTRONIC Technical Guide. OSRAM OPTOTRONICS power supplies are specifically designed with protection features for safe operation. When using power supplies other than OPTOTRONICS the following safety features are required, in addition to any other application specific concerns and local safety codes: Short circuit protection Overload protection Overheat protection Installation of LED modules with (power supplies) needs to be made with regard to all applicable electrical and safety standards. Only qualified personnel should be allowed to perform installations. Correct electrical polarity needs to be observed. Wrong polarity may destroy the module and will result in no light emission. Serial connection is highly recommended as safe electrical operation mode. Parallel connection is not recommended. Unbalanced voltage drop can cause hazardous overload and damage the LED module. Please ensure that the power supply is of adequate power to operate the total load. The maximum of LED per power supplies OT 09/ /350 and OT9/10-24/350DIM is 6 LED for white, green and blue. 16 Dimming of the DRAGON-X is possible with pulse width modulation of the OPTOTRONIC OT 9/10-24/350DIM. Dimming with the regulation of current amplitude may results in color shift. The module, as manufactured has no conformal coating and therefore offers no inherent protection against corrosion. Damage by corrosion will not be honored as material defect claim. It is the user s responsibility to provide suitable protection against corrosive agents such as moisture and condensation and other harmful elements.
