A variety of features and options help meet machine control requirements and budget objectives as well as increase user satisfaction. All models feature state-of-the-art control technology and sturdy mechanical construction. Operator stations ship complete with data input and information display screens for the specified application injection, extrusion, or blow molding. With the OptiGrafix Screen Editor software package, you can change or add screens to suit your particular needs. OptiGrafix software is a DOS based group of routines that operate in a Windows-like environment, featuring pull-down menus, pop-up windows, and point and click selection. Two different screen files are included in the operator station: User screens and System screens. User screens are those required for normal machine operation and control. System screens define basic operating parameters and generally require little, if any, editing. On power-up, the first screen displayed contains a field for you to enter your operator security code. The code allows you to call up screens whose security level is equal to or lower than your operator code. Once the security code is entered, you can easily page through all of the authorized screens with the forward and backward paging keys; or move to a specific related screen by pressing one of the path keys at the bottom of the display. Screen sets can be easily interchanged between all operator stations. The OPtima and Lite families use identical screen sets. The OptiGrafix Screen Editor treats the bottom 640 x 80 pixels (a mini-screen) as a separate section. The same mini-screen can be used with several screens. Page 2 of 8

3 OPtima Family The OPtima family is a full-size, full-featured family of operator stations. One cabinet size is used for either a monochrome LCD, an active matrix TFT color LCD, or an electroluminescent display. Every OPtima wires and programs the same. Layout your machine for this cabinet style and select the display that best fits your requirements. It is durable, reliable, and has the brightness and large viewing angle of a CRT. The 16 colors provide easy recognition of common elements. High resolution graphics are an excellent means to visually communicate sensor locations, process values and machine activity to an operator. Models 41HM, 41VM The Lite family is designed for applications that need a large screen and more capabilities in a smaller cabinet. The Lite offers a 6.4 or 7.4 diagonal display with 640 x 480 resolution. The display supports downloadable fonts, graphics, and sprites. This display can actually have the same screen information as the 10.4 OPtima display. The distinctive black on white contrast of the display is adjustable to provide maximum readability under any lighting conditions. Page 4 of 8

5 Lite Family (continued) Models 41HC, 41VC The Lite HC/VC features a bright, 6.4 active matrix color LCD that provides the best viewing angle, and allows the same colors and graphics as the larger OPtima AC. The Lite is a perfect way to obtain the color and ease of use benefits of costlier operator stations without incurring the expense of a larger display. XL PB Pushbutton Station XL PB shown here with E-stop button The XL PB (Part No ) is a cost effective method to add 23 pushbuttons to any control application. An LED at each key indicates the on/off status. The keys and the LEDs are terminated at separate DB25 connectors; simply connect the keys to any 24 Vdc PLC product or MACO input, and connect the LEDs to any 24 Vdc PLC or MACO output. Each of the keys is labeled with a machine function icon. Openings for insertable labels on the back of the panel let you easily remove and replace the keypad icons. Also, there is a mounting hole in the panel for a (user installed) device i.e., E-stop button, key switch, etc. Operating Features OPtima and Lite Models Security Programming OptiGrafix is used to assign any one of four security levels to each screen. Each security level provides access to screens of that level, plus screens of any lower level. Thus, level four provides access to screens assigned security level 1, 2, 3 or 4, while level one provides access only to screens assigned security level one. The screen editor is also used to assign one or more security codes to each security level. When the operator station is powered up, the first screen displays a field for you to enter a security code. Only screens whose security level is equal to or lower than the code you enter will be accessible. Page 5 of 8

6 Operating Features (continued) Setpoint and Recipe Storage Soft Keys and Page Keys Data Input Keys On average, 16 setups/recipes can be stored in internal memory. The actual number of setups and recipes stored internally depends on the number of setpoints in each. Additional setups/recipes can be stored in a removable INSTA-SET memory cartridge, and optional FDD. The soft keys are a group of user definable (in the screen editor) keys located directly beneath the display. If a key has a video label above it, the label could be either a path to another screen or a special function. Pressing a path key will cause the screen identified by that path to appear on the display. Pressing a special function key will cause the action to occur which is described by the label. Forward and backward page keys display the screens in consecutive order. The alternate page key recalls the last User screen displayed. Machine Function Keys Cursor keys move the selector to any input field on the screen. An appropriate value is then entered using the numerical data input keys. Power and Signal Connection Twenty-four configurable "machine function" keys are a standard feature on the OPtima and Lite models. Each key is backlit with an LED that replaces pilot lights, thus providing cost savings over traditional operator stations. These keys replace control switches that otherwise need to be provided by a manual "remote" switch station, thereby enabling total machine control at a single location for operator convenience. Mounting A 15 Vdc power supply in the controller chassis powers the operator station. Power and signal cables are shipped with the unit. You can mount the Barber-Colman OPtima operator station in a separate control panel, or directly to the machine with or without a mounting plate. Machine mounts consist of four shock absorbing pads on the back of the housing. Lite operator stations are designed for panel mounting only. For panel mounting, a sealing flange is available. LCD screens are most legible when positioned directly in front of the viewer. We recommend mounting LCD displays at about a 30 angle. Page 6 of 8
