12 What is Plastic id card printer technology From basic to moderate and high level of encoding security, Magicard offers a range of technologies for data encoding to suit all the most common access control systems. Magicard printers combine logical security with physical security since we offer HoloKote visual security as standard on all Magicard printers. The Rio Pro allows you to personalize your visual security at no extra printing cost. Types Of Plastic id card 1.Proximity Cards Contactless or proximity cards are low in price and are commonly used in applications such as identification cards, keycards, payment cards and public transit fare cards. Contactless cards use radio frequency transmit/receive electronics to transfer data so they do not have to be put through a card reader. 2. Smart Cards Smart cards are the size of a conventional credit or debit card with an integrated circuit chip that contains a memory, or a memory plus a microprocessor. Memory-only chips contain the operating program, and up to 64 K bytes of reusable memory. Cards with a microprocessor are used for added security when handling sensitive

13 3. Magnetic / Swipe Cards: A magnetic stripe card is a type of PVC card with a band of magnetic material embedded into resin on the back of the card. The magnetic stripe is read by physical contact and swiping past a reading head. Magnetic stripe cards are commonly used in credit and identity cards. A magstripe encoder is available for all Magicard printers. 4.Barcode Cards: A barcode is the first level of encoding and the Most widely used. The information is encoded onto the card during the printing process. 5. RFID Cards: Radio frequency identification, or RFID, is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify people or objects.
