3 Overview Installing a Home Control system is a smart investment in your home. With this system from Cortexa Technology, you can automate as much or as little of your home as you desire. Even if you are not ready to install a system today, leave your options open and protect the investment in your home by pre-wiring your home to easily facilitate the installation of a system in the future. Making your home digitally ready is a small investment during the construction phase, and one that you will be glad you made. This document lists the pre-wire requirements to facilitate installation of a Cortexa Technology Home Control system. These requirements are in addition to all other computer networking, telephone and TV wiring within the home. The requirements are detailed by sub-system. While it is advisable to install cabling for all sub-systems during construction, it is obviously only necessary to have cabling installed for those sub-systems to be automated. In terms of the physical location of components, the ideal configuration is to locate the Cortexa 7202 Home Controller close to the modem for the broadband connection, and to the security panel. The Cortexa has a built-in router, and will control the local area network (LAN). A network hub or switch will be required to connect other computers in the home. This guide details all pre-wire requirements for the entire system. The first section covers the Cortexa 7202 Home Controller and the various access points. This is then followed by a summary of each sub-system and listing what pre-wiring is required. Visit to review the curent list of supported products. 4 System Components Detailed below are the pre-wire requirements for the Cortexa 7202 Home Controller and the In Wall touch panel. Cortexa 7202 Home Controller As indicated above, it is ideal to locate the Controller next to the incoming broadband connection and also to the security panel. The Cortexa 7202 includes brackets and can easily be mounted in a standard structured wiring can, or may simply sit on a shelf. AC Power Category 5e broadband connection from cable or DSL modem (WAN) Category 5e connection to network hub or switch (LAN) In Wall Touch Panel These touch panels are physically mounted in a wall, typically in a high traffic area such as the Kitchen, and also often in the Master Bedroom for convenience and security. Category 5e: Touch panel to Cortexa 7202 AC Power: Touch panel location If AC power is not readily available at the touch panel location, it is possible to run from a remote location by extending the cable using 16/2 or 14/2 wire. Details of the recommended length of extension may be found on the specifications page for the touch panel. Be careful to check polarity of wiring if using an extension cable as reversing the polarity will cause damage to the touch panel power supply.

6 Pre-wiring by Sub-system 6 HVAC The Cortexa system will facilitate full two-way communications with all thermostats connected to the system, allowing automated control of all HVAC functions. Category 5e: Each Thermostat to Cortexa 7202 Security All keypad functions can be performed from the Cortexa system. Keypads should still be installed as normal, however with the Cortexa system, security can be controlled locally or remotely, and events can be easily configured to be triggered by state changes in security. RS-232: Security Panel to Cortexa 7202 Audio Option 1: Cortexa Built-In Audio Player The Cortexa 7202 includes a built-in Audio Player capable of streaming songs and playlists from itunes running on any PC or server on the LAN. The Cortexa 7202 can therefore be added as a source to an existing music system within the home. Stereo jack (1/8 ) from Audio Out on Cortexa 7202 to dual RCA connectors on input device. If the length of this run is longer than the longest stereo jack to RCA cable you can find, then 22/4 shielded twisted pair may be used, terminating with a stereo jack on the Cortexa end and dual RCA connectors on the receiver or ADC end.

7 Pre-wiring by Sub-system 7 Option 2: Audio Distribution System The Cortexa system will control certain Whole Home Audio Distribution Systems, allowing full control of all sources and rooms configured into the system. Category 5e: Audio Controller to Cortexa 7202 & Audio Controller to Keypads 16/4: Audio Controller to Keypads 16/2 (2 pairs): Keypads to Speakers Video Cameras The Cortexa 7202 can be integrated with either digital or analog surveillance cameras. The optional video server board will accommodate up to four analog cameras, with external video servers able to be added to control more than four cameras. IP Cameras*: Category 5e to LAN port on network hub or switch Power (16/2) to Cortexa 7202 Analog Cameras*: RG-6 to Cortexa 7202 Power (16/2) to Cortexa 7202 * if is advisable to run all of the above cabling to camera locations to give flexibility on camera selection Irrigation Irrigation control within the Cortexa system is achieved by utilizing a Cortexa Irrigation Control module. This may work in parallel with an existing Irrigation Controller, or may work on its own. Only one category 5e cable is required irrespective of the number of zones of irrigation to be controlled. 8 Pre-wiring by Sub-system 8 Lighting The Cortexa product supports multiple lighting technologies and platforms. Lights may be controlled individually, or collectively configured as scenes. Products supported and prewire requirements are as follows: UPB No requirement Z-Wave No requirement Lutron Radio RA RS-232* cable from Radio RA interface to Cortexa 7202 Lutron Homeworks RS-232* cable from HomeWorks interface to Cortexa 7202 Insteon No requirement Vantage RS-232* cable from Vantage Controller to Cortexa 7202 * category 5e cable may be used and configured as RS-232 if run is too long for RS-232 Audio / Video Devices (IR Enabled) The Cortexa system will control Infrared enabled devices such as TV, DVD, CD, MP3 players, Cable Box, DVR etc. The system allows the user to fully customize their own remote control, integrating all of these devices, and also any other events programmed into the system.
