A Day in the Year 2025 ( ) It was a lively scene and a short queue had formed at the three doors at the main entrance. It was impossible to tell with the naked eye that the security and access control systems scanned everyone entering the building, identifying them by RFID and biometrics and using the wearable computers integrated in their clothing to inform them which co-working room on which floor was reserved for them. The large co-working area designed for 40 people that was to accommodate this morning s meeting of a nine-strong development team working on the next generation of electric cars on behalf of an international mobility group was located conveniently on the first floor. When ergonomics expert Andrew Elder entered the room, followed moments later by Philip Hunter, most of the team was already assembled. The participants each had a sensor panel with integrated holographic projector in the surface of the desk in front of them. RFID and biometrics were used to identify each of the participants, who were then given access to their person workspace in the cloud. Those who had brought a notepad or other personal device with them placed these next to them on the desk out of habit. These spontaneously linked up with the systems in the room and were mainly used as additional displays or input interfaces. In the basement under the building, the servers, mainframes and storage systems that provided part of the computing capacity and data summoned up were operating at full capacity. Thanks to energy-saving processors and system architecture, the maintenance personnel working there would only have been aware of the work being carried out if they checked the capacity indicators on the displays on the front of some of the devices fitted in server cabinets. How to Increase Efficiency with Innovative Solutions EraseDisk Functionality Wipe It All Out A welcome time-saving innovation among IT administrators is the new Fujitsu EraseDisk functionality. Built into many Fujitsu LIFEBOOK notebooks, Fujitsu ESPRIMO PCs and Fujitsu CELSIUS workstations, it allows system administrators to quickly, securely and completely wipe all data from a hard disk drive when they decommission a system, without having to boot the operating system.
