2 Abstract Data transformation is the process of converting data or information from one format to another, usually from the format of a source system into the required format of a new destination system. Data transformation involves the use of a special program that's able to read the data s original base language, determine the language into which the data that must be translated for it to be usable by the new program or system, and then proceeds to transform that data. Data Transformation involves two key phases: 1. Data Mapping: The assignment of elements from the source base or system toward the destination to capture all transformations that occur. This is made more complicated when there are complex transformations like many-to-one or one-to-many rules for transformation. 2. Code Generation: The creation of the actual transformation program. The resulting data map specification is used to create an executable program to run on computer systems. Specifically confining ourselves to B2B data Transformation It goes by the term Translation. There are several tools that helps us achieve data translation. Here lets understand how WTX (Websphere Transformation Extender) can reduce the no of maps needed unlike in SI (Sterling Integrator) for the Pre/Post processing of input and output files. Premise In B2B Instances, modifying the input file before translation to suite the existing solution or modifying the translated output file to meet the recipient specific requirements is most common. To accomplish this in SI, using map editor, one may have to create three maps. But, WTX needs just one. WTX WebSphere Transformation Extender (or WTX in short) is a dedicated data transformation engine for application integration. It is a mature product in use today with blue-chip Banks, Financial Services, Healthcare and Retail Commerce organizations around the world. It provides a single, flexible B2B gateway that enables companies to meet a wide range of B2B integration needs. IBM Sterling B2B Integrator can improve business processes beyond enterprise boundaries and increase visibility into and across supply and demand chains. Map Editor - The Sterling B2B Integrator Map Editor enables you to create maps (.mxl or.map) and compile them into either translation objects (.txo.) or XML encoder objects (.ltx).

3 How does it work? 1. Create a WTX map with three output cards. 2. First output card represents the output of the preprocessor map. 3. Second output card represents the actual translation output. 4. Thirds output card represents the output of the postprocessor map. 5. Output that gets generated from the first output is the output of preprocessor map 6. Output generated form the first output card will be the input to map the second output card which is the translated output. 7. The Output generated form the second output card will be the input to map the third output card which is postprocessor output. Implementation Create three type trees 1 st Type tree needs to created based on the requirement of the preprocessor file layout. 2 nd Type tree needs to created based on the requirement of the actual translation output file. 3 rd Type tree needs to created based on the requirement of the postprocessor file layout. Create a map with one output card and three output card Configure the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd output type tress in the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd output cards respectively

Perform the Mapping from the Input card to the 1 st output cards To map the 2 nd output card create a functional map and copy the root element of the 1 st output card as a first parameter to the

output in the 3 rd output card create a functional map and copy the root element of the 2 st output card as first parameter in the functional map so that output generated in the 2nd st output card

4 Perform the Mapping from the Input card to the 1 st output cards To map the 2 nd output card create a functional map and copy the root element of the 1 st output card as a first parameter to the functional map so that 1 st output card becomes input to the 2 nd output card By doing so you can have a translated output generated in the second output card Similarly, to produce the Postprocessor output in the 3 rd output card create a functional map and copy the root element of the 2 st output card as first parameter in the functional map so that output generated in the 2nd st output card becomes input to the 3 nd output card Complete mapping in the functional map from 2 nd output card to 3 rd output card to produce the output of the Postprocessor map Benefits 1. Additional processing and associated computing resources by sending to pre/post processing steps can be avoided. 2. Execution time gets lesser 3. Maintenance and support of the map gets easier as the number of maps to do the same Jobs is reduced to 1/3 of the original effort 4. One map produces distinct outputs based on the business case

5 Conclusion Algorithmic efficiency are the properties of an algorithm which relate to the amount of computational resources used by the algorithm. An algorithm must be analyzed to determine its resource usage. Algorithmic efficiency can be thought of as analogous to engineering productivity for a repeating or continuous process. For maximum efficiency we wish to minimize resource usage. With this being the case, this implementation on WTX map can certainly help in resource usage and cut down latency.
