Web accessibility refers to the inclusive practice of removing barriers that prevent interaction with, or access to websites, by people with disabilities. When sites are correctly designed, developed and edited, all users have equal access to information and functionality. Source: Wikipedia 11

14 Common ground What are accessibility requirements The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) = part of a series of web accessibility guidelines.published by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). W3C is one of the main international standards organization for the Internet. Source: Wikipedia 14
15 Writing and referencing accessibility ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It affords similar protections against discrimination to Americans with disabilities as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 the ADA also requires covered employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities, and imposes accessibility requirements on public accommodations. 16 Writing and referencing accessibility WCAG WCAG embraces the thought that a business is build on the principle that all persons, of any disability, should have the same opportunity to have and share information via the internet that anybody else does. 24 Leading others in accessibility requirements Practical tips Poor accessibility requirements: Make UI accessible for people with disabilities Make it work as it does today Good accessibility requirements: A keyboard-only user should be able to reach the main navigation links with a keyboard in order to determine the different areas of the site. A color blind user must have access to information conveyed in color in order to understand all content. (customize to your agency) 24
