2 PROJECT OUTLINE The primary goal was to create a departmental home page to be used by students and faculty for the Hahn School of Nursing s Health-Care Informatics Program The department averages approximately 700 students per year, and needed the tools to improve the delivery of services throughout the department In addition, I would provide support and training for the Stress-Free Zone website I created last semester for the School of Nursing

3 BUILDING ON THE OLD Since I had worked with Dr. Mack the previous semester, we already had a good sense of how to work together From our initial talks, it was clear that Dr. Mack liked the work I provided him last semester and wanted this website to be much in the vain as what I built previously As such, much of the front-end work I had troubles with from last semester (e.g. bugs in the USD WordPress system) already had solutions

4 BUILDING ON THE OLD One of the items I was also tasked with was continuing maintenance of the Stress-Free Zone project They had continual updates to the project they wanted me to upload I was also to assist in training Dr. Susan Instone to maintain the Stress-Free Zone site after my departure

5 EARLIEST ITERATION I pretty quickly had a good idea of where I wanted to go with the HCI website Dr. Mack provided me the list of pages that would need to be created right from the get-go The first WIP screenshot is not too different from the current iteration Since this is an extension of a departmental site, I wanted it to match the feel of the USD core website

10 DIFFICULTIES While the actual web development went as smoothly as ever, getting content from Dr. Mack was a chore To continue development of the site without content, I built templates for each page on the site Each page is exactly as it should look when the site goes live, but with lorem ipsum dummy text Once he sends me content, it s as simple as copying and pasting over the dummy text (with some tweaks, of course!)

11 GUIDING FURTHER UPDATES Over the semester, I wasn t able to schedule a time with Dr. Instone to train her to use WordPress to maintain the site However, I was able to build a comprehensive guidebook that will server as a great resource for anyone looking to take over updating the Stress-Free Zone site It is not designed to entirely replace training, but supplement some already given knowledge and apply it directly to maintaining a consistent theme and feel for the Stress-Free Zone site

12 GUIDING FURTHER UPDATES The guidebook is currently about 10 pages long with copious amounts of annotated pictures guiding everything from simply logging in to updating the faculty list

13 OVERALL Overall, it was a fun semester again; I thoroughly enjoyed working on the Health Care Informatics site and updating the Stress-Free Zone Guidebooks are always a challenge to write in such a way as to be understandable to those with minimal technical experience, and I hope that I ve accomplished that The project is still currently unfinished, but hopefully I ll be receiving the final content soon and can place in on the website ASAP! When the site is finally completed, links will be posted on my blog
