3 Basic Navigation Content Section The Dashboard Content Section (Figure 8) displays the user filters and the actual contents of the currently selected Dashboard page. This section has three zones, as described below: Navigation Bar Consists of all the topical areas and links to the appropriate dashboards Filter Frame Consists of selection controls that allow the user to restrict data from the Dashboard Content, if there are any defined for this Dashboard page Dashboard Content Consists of elements, such as Metrics, defined for this Dashboard page Links This is list of links, either to related dashboards, reports or outside websites Metrics (Content) Consists of elements, such as Metrics, defined for this Dashboard page Figure 8: Section Navigation Bar Filters Links Metrics (Content Page 3 of 10

4 Filter Frame In the Filter Frame you limit, or filter, the specific information you want by selecting various parameters, such as a specific school, specific grades for a specific school, gender, ethnicity, etc. Each filter, such as the School filter, the Grade filter, etc., has a list, as seen in Figure 11. Figure 11 Filter Frame Most filters are multi-select boxes, meaning you can select more than one option at a time. To do this you need to hold down CTRL and select all the options you want to include. All filters allow you to jump search by typing the first letter of the school or cohort you are looking to find, just click on the filter and type the letter and you immediately go to that section of the list. Once your options are selected, an Apply Change button will pop up to apply the filter selection. Persistent Filter Selections Filter selections are persistent. This means that if you select an item in a specific filter in one Dashboard, that selection will be passed on to any Dashboard that includes the same filter. Page 4 of 10

5 Table Types Dashboard metric information appears in various types of tables. The most common is dynamic table types, which are discussed below. Dynamic Table Types Almost all tables on the Dashboard are Dynamic table types. Dynamic tables have the following features: Resizable and sortable columns Users can easily sort on a single column by clicking the heading for that column in the grid. The first click performs an ascending sort; the second click performs a descending sort. Users can also resize columns by moving the mouse to the right edge of the heading for that column and then dragging (hold down left mouse button while moving mouse) the sizing bar to the new position. Ability to use pagination when displaying grid Clicking on the page indicators at the bottom of the table displays that particular page (see Figure 18b). User-defined column filters User can select a specific filter value from the drop down list under a given column. User can also clear a single column filter by removing the current value in the textbox, or selecting the first item (empty option) in the drop down list. Support for drill links and action buttons Drill links and Action buttons are only displayed when a user has access to the corresponding target item. Page 5 of 10

6 The Drilling Process From the Dashboard Home Page, the user can drill to further information. For example, from Figure 29, below, the Attendance Percentage metric is clicked. Attendance Percentage Metric Figure 29: Dashboard Metrics Left clicking that portion of the metric hovered over above, displays the Attendance Details (Figure 35). This is known as Drilling to Details, which is context-sensitive, which means that the specific information appears according to the context that part of the graph clicked on. Page 6 of 10

7 Figure 35: Final Marks Details This shows the daily attendance for the selected students. Clicking on the Student icon [ ] to the left of a student s name will drill to the Student Profile. Page 7 of 10

8 The Metric Toolbar Each Metric has a Toolbar in its upper right corner (Figure 45) for various functions. Clicking on the down arrow will bring up a toolbar with icons (Figure 46). Metric Toolbars Figure 45: Metric Toolbars Student Details Zoom Print Export Display SQL View Comments Figure 46: Metric Toolbar Icons Metric Toolbar Icon Functions View Comments Icon The View Comments icon displays a separate window with information about the metric, which includes comments about each dimension and measure column, as well as, any thresholds defined, which determine the value ranges for a measure (Figure 47). 9 Export Report Icon The Export Report icon allows you to export the report to Excel. When you click this, a prompt appears (Figure 49). Figure 49: Prompt Clicking Open, opens the Metric in Excel, as in Figure 50. Figure 50: Metric Opened in Excel Page 9 of 10

10 Print Icon The Print icon opens a new window displaying just this metric, and any filter values that were used. Zoom Icon The Zoom icon displays just this metric and enlarges the chart image and also displays the data table that this chart was generated from (Figure 51). Student Icon The Student icon displays a detail list according to the information in the Metric (Figure 53) Setting Preferences From the Dashboard Home Page, the user can drill to further information. For example, from Figure 29, below, the Attendance Percentage metric is clicked. Home Page As a default, the Summary page of the dashboard will be the home page for users. Users can change set another dashboard to be their home page, such as Behavior or Attendance. The Favorites dropdown at top right corner of the dashboard allows for this function (see below) Favorities This dropdown includes a Set Home option. Users must navigate to the page they wish to set as their home page and then click this option. Page 10 of 10
