To view these files, you must use Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Reader. To take advantage of the full-text search feature that enables you to search the entire indexed document set for specific terms and phrases, you must use a version of Adobe Acrobat Reader with the Search plug-in. This software is available at (see Section 2 for installation instructions). The indexed documentation set supports Windows Adobe Reader and earlier. Searching the supplied index on Solaris or Linux with Adobe Reader 7 is not supported at this time. (To search this docset on Solaris, use Acrobat Reader with Search and earlier.)

2 SPECTRUM documents are also available online at Check this Web site for the latest updates to SPECTRUM documentation. Note that there is no Web-based search for SPECTRUM documents at this time. SECTION 2: INSTALLING ADOBE READER The autorun application which launches from the documentation CD provides a link to to download the free Adobe Reader application. To install a free copy of Acrobat Reader with Search from Adobe s Web site: Go to Make sure you download a version of Reader that is supported by the SPECTRUM documentation set s search index file (see Section 1). SECTION 3: USING THE DOCUMENTATION CD The following overviews for Windows (A), Solaris (B), and Linux (C) describe expected results and actions after inserting the SPECTRUM Documentation CD in the CD drive. (A) Windows: The Welcome screen appears. Select Click here to access the document roadmap (helpdocs.pdf). Select and double-click a PDF file to open the target document. To search the document set on the CD for a key word or phrase, click the Search button in Adobe Reader; see Section 4 for details. (B) Solaris: The Welcome screen appears. Select Click here to access the document roadmap (helpdocs.pdf). Select and double-click a PDF file to open the target document. To search the document set on the CD for a key word or phrase, click the Search button in Acrobat Reader; see Section 4 for details.

3 (C) Linux: The Welcome screen appears. Select Click here to access the document roadmap (helpdocs.pdf). Click a PDF file link to open the target document. If the Welcome screen (or File Manager) does not display as described in (A), (B), or (C), complete one of the following steps: 1. Windows: Select Start > Run; type <CD Drive>:\setupnt.exe; then press Enter. 2. Solaris: Type /cdrom/cdrom0/installer at the command line (where /cdrom/ represents the mounted CD path); press Enter; then double-click the Installer icon. 3. Linux: Type /mnt/cdrom/autorun at the command line (where /mnt/cdrom/ represents the mounted CD path); press Enter. The SPECTRUM Documentation CD provides the latest PDF documentation available at release time as well as a searchable index. You can also copy the Documentation CD to a directory on your workstation (see Sections 4 and 5). SECTION 4: ACCESSING AND SEARCHING THE SPECTRUM DOCUMENTS To access the SPECTRUM document set in Acrobat Reader, open helpdocs.pdf from the Documentation CD Welcome screen, your local directory (if you copy the CD as described in Section 5), or by selecting Help > Online Manuals from the SPECTRUM tool bar. This roadmap document (helpdocs.pdf) contains hypertext links to all SPECTRUM help documents. To perform a full-text search of the document set from within helpdocs.pdf in Adobe Reader, press CTRL-SHIFT-F to open Reader s Search dialog box. If you feel that you are not obtaining accurate search results, press SHIFT+CONTROL+X to open the Index Selection dialog box and

4 verify that you are searching the appropriate index. The name of the SPECTRUM documentation index will vary depending on which version of the SPECTRUM documentation you have installed. For example, the correct index to use in searching the SPECTRUM 8.0 documentation set is named SPECTRUM Documentation Index. For detailed instructions on using the Search command and indexes, refer to Adobe Reader s online help.

5 SECTION 5: CREATING A LOCAL, SEARCHABLE COPY OF THE DOCUMENTS You can create a local, searchable SPECTRUM document set by copying the entire contents of the SPECTRUM Documentation CD to the location of your choice. SECTION 6: KNOWN ANOMALIES Issue 1: Applies only to users who create and use a local copy of the SPECTRUM documentation set, not users who access documents directly from the SPECTRUM Documentation CD. This issue pertains to user guides that are accessed directly from the Help > Online Manuals link in the following applications: -AutoDiscovery -JMib Tools -Performance View Prerequisite: Complete the instructions in Section 5. Description: The first time you try to access documents from Help > Online Manuals in the applications identified above, you are prompted for the location of a PDF file from the local documentation set you created. After successfully opening any one of the files below, the Help path for all three applications is established in SPECTRUM, and you do not have to navigate to them again. Solution 1: To set the path for the application-specific user guide: -For AutoDiscovery, navigate to 0727.pdf.

6 -For JMib Tools, navigate to 1426.pdf. -For Performance View, navigate to 3509.pdf. If the above solution fails, navigate to helpdocs.pdf (the document roadmap). From there, you can access the specific guide you need Issue 2: Applies to users of Acrobat Reader s search feature. Acrobat Reader with Search enables the Word Stemming option by default, which can cause unwanted search results. Solution 2: Configure Acrobat Reader to turn off the Word-Stemming feature: 1. Open Acrobat Reader with Search. 2. Click the Search button; the Acrobat Reader Search dialog box displays. 3. Clear the Word Stemming check box. 4. Close the Acrobat Reader Search dialog box Issue 3: Applies to users of Acrobat Reader s search feature. By default, Acrobat Reader closes the Search dialog box after you click the Search button and obtain Search Results. Users may prefer to have Acrobat Reader leave the Search dialog box open so that it is easier to run a new query on the documentation set. Solution 3: Configure Acrobat Reader to keep the Search dialog box open: 1. Open Acrobat Reader with Search.

7 2. Choose Edit > Preferences to open the Preferences dialog box. 3. Select Search from the list view. 4. Under View Dialog Options, clear the Hide Query Dialog on Search check box. 5. Click OK Issue 4: Applies to users of the Documentation Roadmap (helpdocs.pdf). By default, Acrobat Reader 5 reuses a single window to navigate across a documentation set. As a result, helpdocs.pdf closes when you follow a link to another document, which can make navigating the documentation set difficult. Solution 4: Configure Acrobat Reader to use multiple windows: 1. Open Acrobat Reader. 2. Choose Edit > Preferences to open the Preferences dialog box. 3. Select Options from the list view. 4.
