1 Tutorial The CINAHL Databases Searching Tutorial featuring: support.ebsco.com In this tutorial, you will learn how to conduct a basic search using the CINAHL databases. In addition, we look at how to access Evidence-Based Care Sheets and Quick Lessons on CINAHL Complete and the CINAHL Plus databases. We begin by conducting a keyword search from the Basic Search screen with the available Search Options opened. Enter migraine in the search box and select the Full Text limiter to restrict results to those including full text only. You can apply additional limiters to your search such as Peer Reviewed and References Available.

2 Search Modes enable you to automatically place an OR between search terms by clicking the radio button for the Find any of my search terms search mode. To place an AND between your search terms, select the Find all my search terms search mode. Place a check in the box for Apply related words to further expand your results. After applying your limiters or expanders, click Search. Under Limit To, use the date slider to narrow your results by date. Simply drag either end of the slider towards the middle. You can also refine your results even further by clicking the Show More link. The Result List can include links to source types, such as CEUs (continuing education unit modules), Research Instruments, and Quick Lessons. Click the Show More link to view all available Source Types. Click on a Full Text link to read an article.

3 Click on the folder icon to collect results in the temporary session folder. To save results beyond the current session, click the Sign In link and either sign in to an existing My EBSCOhost folder account, or create a new folder account free of charge. You can also click on the CINAHL Headings link along the top toolbar to browse for appropriate subject terms. The ability to search CINAHL Headings is available in all of the CINAHL databases. When you are searching the CINAHL Plus databases or CINAHL Complete, you can click on the EVIDENCE-BASED CARE SHEETS link in the top toolbar or QUICK LESSONS under the More link to view a list of all available topics. Simply check the box in front of any item on the list and click on the Search button. The document is displayed in the result list. Click the PDF Full Text link to view the Quick Lesson or Evidence-Based Care Sheet. To access the CINAHL Continuing Education Unit Modules, click the CE Module link and follow the directions to enroll with CINAHL.

4 Tutorial Using CINAHL/MeSH Headings on EBSCOhost support.ebsco.com Welcome to EBSCO s CINAHL and MeSH Headings tutorial. Subject Headings are assigned based on article content and help you retrieve more relevant results. In this tutorial, we will look at how to search using the CINAHL Headings feature. The functionality demonstrated is identical to that when searching MeSH headings in the MEDLINE databases. We ll begin by searching for Subject Headings. Check the Suggest Subject Terms box, then enter your term, such as catheter infections, in the Find field, and click Search. You can also click on the CINAHL Headings or MeSH link along the top toolbar which will also bring you to the CINAHL Headings screen. A list of appropriate CINAHL headings, or subject terms, appears, defaulted to Relevancy Ranked. Your search term also appears at the bottom of the list with the option to search it as a keyword.

5 To the right of the subject terms list is a Major Concept option which, when selected, will restrict results to those articles in which your chosen subject is a major focus. For details about this option, click on the Help icon. Click on a scope note icon in the Scope column to view the scope note for a subject term. The Tree Views, or hierarchical arrangement of subject headings, are displayed when you click the subject heading. Click the Back to Term List link to return to your list of subject terms. Check the box of a subject term to view the Subheadings, which may be selected to further refine the subject. If a subheading is not selected, all of the subheadings are searched. When you check a subject term, it is added to the Search Term Builder box. In this example, we have selected the subject heading Catheter-Related Infections with the subheadings of Complications or Drug Therapy or Education.

6 Search Term Builder Box As you select subject headings and subheadings, your search strategy is added to the Search Term Builder box. Remove unwanted terms by clicking the red X next to the term. To browse for additional terms to add to your search, click the Browse Additional Terms link, or after making your selections, click on the Search Database button. In this example, we will add more terms to our search. The list of subject headings relevant to urinary infections is displayed. Click on the term to view the Tree Views or check the box to view all Subheadings. The option to Explode is present for this term, as there is a narrower term under Urinary Tract Infections Bacteriuria. The Explode option, when selected, will search not only Urinary Tract Infections but also the more specific term of Bacteriuria. If a comprehensive subject search of all types of Urinary Tract Infections is wanted, we select the Explode option. If desired, Major Concept and specific subheadings could be selected. In this example, we will select Explode, select to combine the searches with AND, and click the Search Database button. A result list is displayed. The search is displayed in the Find field. Click the Search History link below the Find field to open the Search History/Alerts window. From the Search History/Alerts window you can edit the search by clicking Edit. You can also save and edit Search Alerts.

13 Welcome to EBSCO s ebooks tutorial. In this tutorial, we will look how to search and read ebooks. The ebook Collection screen is accessible by clicking the ebooks link in the top toolbar. From the ebook Collection screen, you can search ebooks by keyword, Browse by Category, or use the carousels to view Highlighted or Featured ebooks. Click the View All links to view a full result list of Highlight or Featured ebooks. Hover your pointer over a book cover image to view a brief description. From the hover window, you can access the Detailed Record, Download the ebook, or add the ebook to your folder. We ll begin by conducting a Basic Search. Enter your search terms and click Search.

14 From the Result List, you have several options. You can refine your results using the limiters and subject facets in the left column. Depending on availability, you can read the ebook full text in PDF or EPUB format. Or, download the ebook to read offline at a later time, view the Table of Contents for a selected ebook, or view the pages of an ebook most relevant to your search terms. View the Table of Contents for an ebook by clicking the Table of Contents link below the Full Text link. Click on a hyperlinked chapter title to go directly to that chapter in the ebook Viewer. Some chapters of the Table of Contents can be expanded further by clicking the plus sign next to a chapter title. When you click a PDF or EPUB Full Text link on the Result List, the book opens in the ebook Viewer. At the top of the left-hand column, there are several tools available to you. The Table of Contents for your ebook is accessible under Contents. Click Search Within to search for specific terms within the full text of the ebook.

15 Click My Notes to create a note about the text that can be saved to your personal My EBSCOhost folder. Look up words in the Dictionary by clicking Dictionary in the tools menu above the ebook text. Click the Download button click to download the ebook to your computer. Using the tools at the bottom of the Viewer, you can adjust how the ebook displays, such as zooming in and out of the page. You can also go directly to a specific page using the left and right arrows, or by entering a page number and pressing the enter key. When reading an EPUB format ebook, the tools at the bottom of the Viewer, allow you to fit the page to the viewport and zoom in and out of the page. You can also go directly to the beginning of a chapter or section using the left and right arrows. At any time, click the Help link to view the complete online Help system.
