1 E&S ON ISOnet USER GUIDE WELCOME Engineering and Safety Service's (E&S) ISOnet site is structured to provide easy electronic access to information for evaluating commercial property and casualty risks, developing intervention strategies to avoid losses, and determining requirements for loss control service by insurers. For purposes of navigating the site, the uppermost portion of your Internet Browser window is the Title Bar, the left portion is the Nav Bar, and the largest portion of the Internet browser window is the Canvas. HOME PAGE Title Bar (Top of Page) Select an ISOnet Product/Service A drop down menu providing ready access to additional ISOnet Products and Services (registration required). Logout Click on this to end your E&S on ISOnet session. Canvas A listing of the products available on E&S on ISOnet including a link to this Help document. The largest portion of the page. Clicking on a product link brings you to the specific product home page. RISK MANAGEMENT INFORMATION Engineering and Safety develops specialized technical reports to identify and evaluate exposures, and to recommend actions to control losses from property and casualty risks. Clicking on Risk Management Information opens this Search/Index Opens the Risk Management Information Home page for searching the Risk Management Information database or reviewing Indexes of the technical report series. Updates - Provides a listing of the last 15 Technical Reports that have been released as well as the last 15 News Reports that have been released. To access a specific document, click on the document title. About - Provides a description of the contents of the Risk Management Information Conducting a Search

2 Select Series (one or more) - The entire E&S Technical Reports (including News Reports) database can be searched by selecting the default setting "All Technical Reports." Users may optionally select one or more specific "series" by clicking on the specific Report Series name (press the Ctrl key down and click on each Report Series desired to make multiple selections). Regardless of what selection is made, News Reports will always be included to assure you have the most current information. Search Term - While you can easily search for a single word in the Risk Management Information database, you will find the quality of your search results will be significantly improved by applying some of the following techniques. The terms AND, NEAR, OR and AND NOT are Boolean operators that allow for more refined searching (they are not case sensitive and are shown in UPPERCASE only for emphasis). To search for a Phrase - Type in the search terms in the order that you want the words to appear in the document (not case sensitive). Example: Type commercial vehicle to find any report with the exact phrase commercial vehicle, Commercial Vehicle, Commercial vehicle, or commercial Vehicle. To search for Two or More Words appearing anywhere in the same document - Type the operator word AND between the desired words. Example: Type driver AND training to find any report that contains both the words driver and training, regardless of where each word appears in the report. To search for words Close to Each Other in the same document - Type the operator word NEAR between the desired words to search for any instances where the search terms are within 50 words of each other. Example: Type driver NEAR training to find any report that contains both the words driver and training, but only if the two words are within 50 words of each other. To search for Multiple Words at the same time - Type the operator word OR between the desired words to search for any instances where either word or both words appear in a document. Example: Type driver OR training to find any report that contains either the word driver, the word training, or both words driver and training. To Exclude Words from a search - Type the operator words AND NOT between the search terms. Example: Type training AND NOT driver qualification to find any report that contains the word training, but does not contain the phrase driver qualification. To Use Operator Words Literally in a search - Type the desired phrase in double quotes.

3 Example: Type "accident reporting and recording" to find reports with the phrase accident reporting and recording. To search for Words that Begin with the Same Letters - Type the stem of the word followed by an asterisk (*). Example: Type train* to find any instance of the stem word train, such as train, trainer, training, trained, or trainee. To search for All Forms of a Word - Type the root word followed by a double asterisk (**). Example: Type drive** to find drive, drives, driven and drove. Search Results - After conducting a search, a Search results page will be displayed. This page will indicate the number of reports that met your search criteria, the Report Series abbreviations you searched for, and the search criteria that you entered. Results are ranked by the number of matches found (relevance) compared to your search criteria. The results list contains the Report title (click on this to view the text), followed by the report number. On the next line, the report series, and date of publication are listed. Following that is a portion of the report Abstract. You can download the report to your computer, in Word format, by clicking on Download. If you do not have Word installed on your computer, you can download a free Word Viewer from Microsoft. Click here to download Word Viewer. To view the document online, click on the Title of the report. You can see a list of the main headings in the report, as well as a list of graphics and tables by clicking on "Table of Contents" at the top of the report. You can go directly to the desired section, graphic or table by clicking on the specific listing. To go back to the top of the document click the "Back" button on the browser. You can also download the report in Word format from this page by clicking on the 'Download' button at the top of the report. To copy and paste information from the document page, click at the beginning of the text you want to copy and, while holding down the Shift key, move the cursor to the end of the text you want to copy and click there. Press Ctrl-C to copy the text. You can then paste the information in your open word processor (e.g., Word) or text editor (e.g., Notepad) by pressing Ctrl-V. RISK MANAGEMENT INFOLINKS Risk Management InfoLinks pages contain information with direct links to sites that Engineering and Safety staff has identified as being of particular use to our customers. Each link will open up a separate Browser session. When you are finished with the site, just close that Browser window and you will return to the Engineering and Safety page that you originally linked from. 4 About - Provides a description of the contents of the Risk Management InfoLinks PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Professional Development provides a number of inexpensive ways for risk management and safety professionals to continue their professional development and satisfy the continuingeducation component of most professional designations. Just click on the link for the area of interest. Professional Development Opens the Professional Development Home page. About - Provides a description of the contents of the Professional Development LEGISLATION - LOSS CONTROL SERVICE Legislation Loss Control Service provides information on federal and State laws and regulations affecting insurance loss control operations. Clicking on Legislation Loss Control Service opens this Search/Index Opens the Legislation Loss Control Service Home page for searching the Legislation Loss Control Service database or reviewing the Index of all documents. Updates - Provides a listing of any document added to the database within the past 90- days. To access a specific document, click on the document title. About - Provides a description of the contents of the Legislation Loss Control Service Conducting a Search Select Jurisdiction (one or more) - All jurisdictions will be searched by selecting the default setting "All Jurisdictions." Users may optionally select one or more specific "jurisdictions" by clicking on the jurisdiction name (press the Ctrl key down and click on each jurisdiction desired to make multiple selections). Select Category (one or more) - Four databases are available - CG Compliance Guidelines, LR Laws and Regulations Library, LA Legislative Alerts, and WP White Papers. Users may select one or more specific databases by clicking on the database name (press the Ctrl key down and click on each database desired to make multiple selections). 6 Search Results - After conducting a search, a Search results page will be displayed.
