4 ResponseWare for Android 4 About ResponseWare ResponseWare turns a participant's web-enabled mobile device or tablet into a virtual clicker. Participants are able to respond to polling questions through a Wi-Fi or data connection. ResponseWare allows you to respond to multiple question types, such as multiple-choice, alphanumeric, multiple response and essay questions. Questions and answer choices are displayed on the web-enabled device while polling is open. This section covers the following topics: Technical Requirements ResponseWareand Turning Account Creating a Turning Account Navigation Technical Requirements The following technical requirements are required for ResponseWare to function properly: Android smartphones or tablets with OS 4.1 or higher Android users with firmware versions must access ResponseWare via the Chrome browser. WARNING Standard data rates may apply. Turning Technologies is NOT responsible for any cellular usage charges.

5 ResponseWare for Android 5 ResponseWareand Turning Account A Turning Account is a free account that provides a unique identifier for each user and can be tied to all response devices, including ResponseWare. Instructors and classrooms using require a Turning Account license to register response devices. If you have to purchase a response device, you will have to purchase a Turning Account license. WARNING If you are required to purchase a Turning Account license and fail to do so, your score is displayed as an asterisk in all TurningPoint Cloud participant reports. Furthermore, your score will export as "0" to an Excel workbook and will not be exported to an LMS. A Turning Account license may also be required to respond to questions from TurningPoint Cloud. If you do not have a Turning Account, see Creating a Turning Account on page 5. If you have a Turning Account, skip Creating a Turning Account. Creating a Turning Account A Turning Account is a unique identifier that is used to tie together all software accounts and response devices. A Turning Account is required for use with Turning Technologies products. 1 Go to 2 Enter your school or organization address and click Create. IMPORTANT If your address belongs to a defined organization in Turning Account, the following message is displayed: Your Turning Account needs to be connected to your school s Learning Management System to track your participation. Sign-in to your LMS and click on the Turning Account Registration link under any course that uses clickers. 3 Check your and click the link to verify your Turning Account. If you did not receive the verification , click the Resend button in Turning Account. 4 Enter all required fields as noted by the asterisks.

6 ResponseWare for Android 6 5 Enter and confirm your password in the fields provided. The password must be at least eight characters long and contain one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter and one number. 6 Select the box labeled By checking this, you agree to comply with the End-User License Agreement and Terms of Use. 7 Click Finish. 8 If you have a license code and/or device ID enter them in the appropriate box and click Redeem and/or Register. 9 Click Finish. The Turning Account Dashboard is displayed. Navigation Tap in the upper left corner to display your options. Home - Select Home to return to the ResponseWare home screen and to the close the Navigation Drawer. Settings - Enable or disable settings in ResponseWare. Sign In(Out) - Select to sign in or out of your Turning Account. This option is only available when you are not in a session. Help - Select Help to view the User Guide. About - Select About to view the ResponseWare version, Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and Acknowledgments.

7 ResponseWare for Android 7 Using the ResponseWare App This section covers using the ResponseWare app. Logging into a ResponseWare Session Leaving a ResponseWare Session Returning to the Presentation Messaging Viewing Information Logging into a ResponseWare Session Instructors may require you to be signed into a Turning Account. Alternatively, you may be allowed to sign in as a guest. IMPORTANT You can only join one session at a time. TIP To prevent your phone or tablet from locking during a presentation, tap tap the check box labeled Keep Device Awake., select Settings and 1 Open ResponseWare on your device. If a Turning Account is not required to submit responses, skip to Step 4. 2 Tap and select Sign In. 3 Enter the and Password associated with your Turning Account and tap Sign In. 4 Enter the Session ID provided by your instructor in the Enter Session ID field. 5 Tap Join Session. 6 If prompted, enter additional information, such as first and last name, address, or User ID. Required information must be entered. User ID may refer to a Student ID, section number or any other identification required by your instructor. 7 Tap Join.

8 ResponseWare for Android 8 Leaving a ResponseWare Session 1 Tap. The ResponseWare menu opens. Live Assessment Self-Paced Assessment 2 Tap Leave on the left menu. The Leave Session window opens. 3 Tap Leave to confirm. Returning to the Presentation The Presentation menu option in live assessment or the Test menu option in self-paced assessment returns you to the question/test.

9 ResponseWare for Android 9 1 Tap. The ResponseWare menu opens. Live Assessment Self-Paced Assessment 2 Tap Presentation in live assessment or Test in self-paced assessment to return to the question/test. Messaging You can send questions or comments to your instructor via the Messaging feature. The instructor may enable an option that allows you to message the entire group. If you have a message, a notification is displayed in the upper right corner. 1 Tap. The ResponseWare menu opens. Live Assessment Self-Paced Assessment 2 Tap To All or To Presenter. 3 Tap the Enter Message field. The on-screen keyboard is displayed.

10 ResponseWare for Android 10 4 Enter a question or comment for the instructor or group. 5 Tap to send the question or comment to the presenter only. Alternatively, tap presenter. to send the question or comment to the group, including the The sent message is displayed in blue. 6 Tap in the upper right corner and select Presentation in live assessment or Test in self-paced assessment to return to the question/test. To minimize the keyboard, tap the back button. Viewing Information The information menu option displays the Session ID, user name and Device ID.

12 ResponseWare for Android 12 Live Assessment Live assessment polling allows you to use a web-enabled device to respond to instructor-led presentations in real-time. Responding to Short Answer, Numeric or Essay Questions During live assessment polling, the question and answer choices are displayed.

13 ResponseWare for Android 13 1 Tap the blank Enter Answer field next to Send. The on-screen keyboard is displayed. 2 Enter your response. Numeric Response questions only accept numbers, one decimal point, and +/- value at the beginning of an answer. 3 Tap Send. If your answer was successfully sent, the message Response Received is displayed. You can change your answer while polling is open if the question is not set to only accept your first response. When polling is closed, your answer is displayed. Responding to Multiple Response Questions Multiple Response questions allow you to send more than one response to a question. During live assessment polling, the question and answer choices are displayed. 1 Tap the number(s) or letter(s) that correspond to the answer choices. The presenter may have enabled duplicate answers, which allows you to select the same answer choice more than once.answer selections can be changed while polling is open. After polling is closed, the results are displayed. 2 To view the question, tap in the upper right of the screen 3 To return to the chart, tap in the upper right of the screen.

14 ResponseWare for Android 14 Responding to Moment to Moment Questions Moment to Moment questions are used to track the on-going opinions of participants over a period of time. Moment to Moment questions display a scale from 1 to 5. ResponseWare does not display Moment to Moment results. Refer to the presenter's screen to view results. 1 Tap the number 1 (minimum) to 5 (maximum) that corresponds to your rating of the current question. 2 Repeat step 1 to change your rating of the current question.

15 ResponseWare for Android 15 Self-Paced Assessment Self-paced assessments are only available in conjunction with TurningPoint Cloud. The self-paced feature allows you to use a web-enabled device to complete evaluations, assessments and surveys at your own pace. You enter the test by logging into a ResponseWare session then respond and submit the assessment for grading. Questions can be viewed at any time prior to submitting the assessment by scrolling left or right through the question carousel. Viewing the Question List The question list menu option allows you to view and select questions. 1 Tap. The ResponseWare menu opens. 2 The question list displays. 3 Tap a question to view. Alternately, tap in the upper right corner and select Test to return to the test.

18 ResponseWare for Android 18 Submitting a Test 1 Tap. The ResponseWare menu opens. 2 Tap Submit Test. The Submit Test window is displayed to confirm submission. The Submit Test window indicates if all questions have been answered. TapSubmit to confirm submission. Alternately, the Submit Test window indicates if any questions have not been answered. Tap the question to respond or tapsubmit to submit without a response. When you successfully submit your test, the The test has been completed message appears.

19 ResponseWare for Android 19 Frequently Asked Questions Setting Up ResponseWare Where can I download the app for my smartphone or tablet? Search for ResponseWare in the Google Play Store. How much does the app cost? The app is free. However, a licensed account may be required to participate in class. How do I verify that I have the most current version of the ResponseWare app? In the Google Play Store, tap the Menu icon and select My Apps. Tap ResponseWare and if available, select Update. If no update is available, the ResponseWare app is the most current version. I downloaded the app. Where do I create an account to sign in? Tap in the upper left corner of the Home screen and select Sign In. Tap Create an account. Alternatively, go to and sign up for a Turning Account. Why do I need a Turning Account? What is a Turning Account? A Turning Account is a unique identifier that is used to tie together all software accounts and response devices. A Turning Account may be required for use with ResponseWare. Do I need a Turning Account license? Instructors and classrooms using TurningPoint Cloud require a Turning Account license to register response devices. If youhave to purchase a response device, you will have to purchase a Turning Account license. How do I add a license to my account? Go to and sign in. Select Licenses. Below Redeem License Code, enter your code and click Redeem. What is my User ID? User ID can refer to a Student ID, section number or any other identification required by the presenter. How do I prevent my phone/tablet from falling asleep during class? To prevent your phone or tablet from locking during a presentation, tap Device Awake., select Settings and tap the button next to Keep My old ResponseWare account does not work anymore. Go to Then click Forgot your password?, enter the associated with your ResponseWare account and reset the password.

20 ResponseWare for Android 20 Using ResponseWare What is my Session ID? The Session ID is a unique identification number provided by the presenter that allows participants to join the current session. Why are my options grayed out?/why can't I change my answer? Answers can only be changed while polling is open and the presenter does not have a setting enabled that allows only first responses submitted. Why am I unable to message the presenter or group? The presenter has disabled the messaging function. The presenter can choose to allow you to message the presenter only or the presenter and the group or to disable messaging entirely.
