1 AIBO Remote Framework (No Programming) Story 1. Trying AIBO Remote Framework You can enjoy AIBO Remote Framework by using the sample programs. A development environment (VC++) is not needed. 1

2 What s Needed PC with Windows Xp or 2000 Memory Stick Reader/Writer Or a PC that has a Memory Stick reader/writer (VAIO PC) AIBO Programming Memory Stick AIBO MIND2 Memory stick or An Upgraded Memory Stick to AIBO MIND2 from AIBO MIND AIBO ERS-7 or AIBO ERS-7M2 Wireless LAN is built-in Access Point (supports IEEE802.11b) It is more stable to use a Wireless LAN Access point even if your PC has a wireless LAN adapter. 2

3 What s Needed Is a Wireless LAN access point really needed? A Wireless LAN adapter is built-in to many modern PCs. To connect AIBO and your PC, an access point isn t needed if you use Ad Hoc mode (IBSS peer to peer). However, we recommend using a Wireless LAN access point in the following cases: 1. I want an easy setup, because the connection setup can be troublesome. 2. There are other wireless LANs (.11b or.11g) near by. (In Ad Hoc mode, the wirelss LAN channel is static, so there is the possibility of interference. 3. I want a PC connected to the internet too. (In Ad Hoc mode, this setup is complex) 4. I want to connect additional wireless LAN devices besides one AIBO and one PC. And more if you want to connect more than two AIBOs: 1. Use a Wireless LAN access point. 2. Connect PCs with a wired cable. Use wireless for your AIBO to PC connection. (AIBO Remote Framework uses much wireless bandwidth to stream video and audio.) 3

4 Setup the Wireless LAN First configure the Wireless LAN settings of AIBO MIND2. There is an instruction manual to setup the Wireless LAN (Sorry! Japanese only) * The Wireless LAN setup page in the is made by Buffalo, Inc. and Sony cooperated. Install AIBO Entertainment Player from the CD-ROM included with AIBO MIND2. Test by connecting AIBO Entertainment Player to your AIBO. (Please read AIBO s manual for connection help) 4

6 Setup AIBO Remote Framework (2) 1. Extract the archive RFW_Sample_exe_r1.zip. + The extension (exe) may not be shown, because of your Windows Explorer settings. 2. Copy all exe files to the folder where AIBO Entertainment Player is installed Default installation folder is C: Program Files Sony AIBO Entertainment Player 6

7 Setup AIBO Remote Framework (3) 3. Create a shortcut for each sample exe file. Hint Right click each sample exe and select Send To and Desktop (create shortcut) 7

8 Setup AIBO Remote Framework (4) 4. Boot your AIBO with AIBO MIND2. You should ve already setup the Wireless LAN settings. 5. Open AIBO WLAN Manager2, select the AIBO Search tab, and remember AIBO s IP address. 8

9 Using AIBO Remote Framework Sample Application(1-1) 1. Open BaseClient.exe. It should be placed on the desktop as a shortcut. 2. Input AIBO s IP address and click the Connect button. 3. Check that AIBO s mode lamps (above the ears) turn Blue, then click the Remote button. 4. You will hear a sound when AIBO switches to Remote mode. AIBO s mode lamps will blink blue. * When using AIBO Remote Framework, the Wireless LED that s on the back of the head (small blue LED) doesn t turn on. Mode lamps turn blue or blink blue. 9

10 Using AIBO Remote Framework Sample Application(1-2) 5. Click the radio button to the left of Hello and then click the Play button. 6. AIBO plays a Hello motion. 7. Set the AIBO on the station and make it Dance. Remove AIBO from the station and make it Dance. You will see different types of dances in each position. 8. Push the Close button to quit BaseClient. AIBO s mode lamps will turn off. 10

11 Using AIBO Remote Framework Sample Application(2-1) 1. Open TakePicture.exe. It should be placed on the desktop as a shortcut. 2. Input AIBO s IP address and click the Connect button. 3. Check that AIBO s mode lamps (above the ears) turn Blue, then click the Remote button. 4. You will hear a sound when AIBO switches to Remote mode. AIBO s mode lamps will blink blue. 11

12 Using AIBO Remote Framework Sample Application(2-2) 5. Click the ImageTP ON button, you will see the video from AIBO s camera. 6. Click the Take Picture button, AIBO takes a photo and shows it to the left of the video. 7. Click the FORWARD button, AIBO walks forward. 8. RIGHT TURN and LEFT TURN work. AIBO s neck angle can also be controlled. 9. We won t try the Socket Server ON/OFF button. This function can be used if you have a WEB server on your PC. If your network is suitable, you can control your AIBO over the Internet and see the Photo from another PC or cell phone web browser. * To enable number 9, you must setup your PC so it can be accessed from the Internet, and you need a WEB server on you PC. We recommend this be setup by a person with knowledge of your network. Suitable security is highly recommended. 12

13 Summary Setup wireless setting on AIBO MIND2. Install AIBO Entertainment Player and check that it works with AIBO. Download the archives from the AIBO SDE site and put the exe files in the AIBO Entertainment Player folder. Boot AIBO with AIBO MIND2. Execute BaseClient.exe and TakePicture.exe. Next, RemoteTest will be used. 13
