1 7, 8, 8.1, 10 This presentation is on windows 10. Most if not all procedures we will discuss today will work on all 4 versions of windows talk about today. Below is when support ends for each version. Yes, support will be around for 3 more years for windows 7, but already with the version of Internet Explorer certain websites do not work, as a senior found out last week. Had to install Firefox which works up to date on everything. You can still get windows ten upgrade from 7, 8 and 8.1 now. Just need the right file to upgrade, I have it.

2 So why upgrade: Most companies will only now support windows 8, 8.1 and 10. Why because it cost to much to keep upgrading older models of equipment ( printers, scanners, etc ). To newer drivers for windows 10. So they only support for equipment that has been out since windows 8. Windows 8 is primarily just windows 10. But 10 is faster and more secure. Microsoft Stop Support for Internet Explorer as of windows 10 where they only support Edge the new internet Explorer. You can use Internet Explorer in Windows 10 but its hidden. The only support now for windows 7 would mostly be security fixes. No other real improvements. If you have a desktop and want to upgraded, say a video card, there is mostly likely no windows 7 support drivers for it. Same would be for a new sound card, etc You can do everything the same in 10 that you could in 7. The only real different is how the Control Panel works and how applications in the control panel looks.

3 Window 10/8 also adds one extra screen to quickly choose your most used applications (Apps). Press the windows key and you see it. You can add and remove and resize all the apps there. (** Show how to pin to Start **) (** Show resizing **) When moving or copying files from one folder to the next, Open 2 File Explorer on the Task Bar. Click once to open the first one then press Windows Key and the Left Arrow, this will fill the left of the screen with the File Explorer. Then right click on the task bar on the file Explorer Icon and choose File Explorer. This will open a 2 nd one and they press Windows Key and the Right Arrow and this will file the right side of the screen with the New File Explorer. Then click on the left File Explorer ( any where in it ) and set it to the directory ( Folder ) where you want the file(s) to be moved from.

4 Then click on the Right Explorer and choose the directory where you want the file(s) to be moved too. Then click on the file and drag to the new location, click on a file then hold CTRL key and choose more files, when done choosing let go of the CTRL key then left click on a already chosen file press and hold and drag to the new location, all the files that were chosen will also be dragged. Let go in the new location and they will all be moved. To copy instead of moved Right click and drag and choose Copy. This also works for external drives. a drive is a drive is a drive, they all work the same. All security programs, in my opinion, are pretty much the same. They all say they stop Virus and malware and all kinds of infections. But still your systems get infected. The only want to stop 100% of the time infections is to never turn on your system. Or if you turn it on never go online and plug in a

5 external drive or cd/dvd/bluray. That s no fun if you cannot use your system. So all my years of doing systems since 1981 I have never found a perfect anti-virus or anti-anything software. The bad people out weigh the good people. But you can take precautions. NEVER automatically click on a popup. **We have detected your system is infected, click here to clean it up ** This is an infection and if you click it, your going to regret it. If you see something like this, DO NOT CLICK IT, reboot your system and see if it still there. If it is run MALWAREBYTES, its free. I have used it for years and cleaned up many infected system with it. When installing a new application ( useful or a game or anything ). Research it first online. See what people say about it. Other people not at the applications web site.

6 Just because you got an from a relative or friend does not mean its safe. IF the says click her for something funny or you got to see this, or anything like this. Do not trust it. You could always hit reply and see if who ever sent it to you really did send it to you. See who ever sent it may be infected and its sending it to everyone on there contact/mailing list., if your not sure delete it. What browser should I use. Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc There are many choices, My preference is Firefox, but I have them all installed to check them out and research questions people have on them.

7 I use Firefox because I can personalize it. I used addons like: *FlagFox: tells me what country is hosting the website I am on. *Colorfultabs: chances each tab to a random colour. *DownThemAll: Download manager to stop and start large downloads. *ublock Origin: stop unwanted advertisement. *YouTube Highdefinition: This makes all youtube videos to the highest setting, best resolutions. Internet Explorer and Edge do not allow these. Chrome has a lot including ublock Origin. Never tried with Safari. Windows Key -> Settings -> Privacy General : read and choose Location: Whether to let the systems know where you are, useful for maps and other programs like that. Camera & Microphone: Useful for Skype, FaceBook video chat, etc Speech, inking and typing: Read and choose Account info: read and choose

8 Contacts: certain app use this for getting people you know and see if they are also using the apps. Skype, facebook, , etc. Calendar: Contacts (people in windows ) use this for appointments, birthday and so forth. Feedback & diagnostics: send information on usage and crashes of windows to Microsoft. Etc. End of our lesson, time for questions.
