HP StoreVirtual 4130 HP P4900 G2 HP P4800 G2 HP P4500 G2 HP P4300 G2 HP P4000 VSA Update recommendation HP recommends that all customers running an earlier version of HP StoreVirtual Storage software upgrade to HP StoreVirtual Storage Version As a best practice, HP recommends upgrading StoreVirtual Storage software during times of non-peak activity to minimize any potential application impact. Supersedes information Languages HP StoreVirtual Storage Version 11.5 supersedes all previous versions on StoreVirtual 4000 Storage, P4000 G2 SAN Solutions, StoreVirtual VSA (including VSA 2014), and P4000 VSA. Version 11.5 software supports the following languages: English Simplified Chinese Japanese Korean Spanish NOTE: The storage system Configuration Interface and the on-system CLI are not localized. Enhancements LeftHand OS Version 11.5 includes the following enhancements from Version 11.0: Adaptive Optimization for the StoreVirtual VSA and StoreVirtual 4335 StoreVirtual VSA with up to 50 TB of capacity Online upgrades improvements: HTTP and SOCKS proxy servers are supported, including proxy authentication Use Local Media and Test FTP Connection buttons added Accelerated speed for downloading upgrade files System preferences added to control logging activity in large-scale configurations Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2012 SP1 can now provision storage from storage pools on HP StoreVirtual via SMI-S Fibre Channel support added to the HP StoreVirtual Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) 4 Update recommendation

HP StoreVirtual Recovery Manager updates: Service monitoring for Auto-Mount Service Online upgrade feature added Auto-Mount Service can mount remote volumes HP StoreVirtual Application Aware Snapshot Manager updates: Authentication Console updated Login settings wizard and controlling IP address wizard added Improved performance when executing CLI commands in large management groups Fixes Version 11.5 In a management group with storage systems running mixed versions of LeftHand OS, there was a problem where logging in with Active Directory user credentials would work on some storage systems but not on the others. This issue is resolved after upgrading all the storage systems to LeftHand OS Version The LeftHand OS has been updated to version of the Systems Management Homepage (SMH) to fix several security issues. For more information, see portal/site/hpsc/public/kb/docdisplay/?docid= c This patch enables a 10 TB to 50 TB HP StoreVirtual VSA 2014 upgrade license to be installed on a version prior to HP StoreVirtual VSA 2014 (also available as patch 40010). Fixed an issue where VMware ESX 4.1 and VMware ESXi 5.x hosts show multiple dead paths with non 0 LUN numbers. Improvements have been made to the auto-rebalancing of iscsi sessions for enhanced stability and to maintain volume availability during upgrade operations. Network statistics for 10 GbE interfaces are now correctly represented in the Performance Monitor. Fixed connection issues that occurred occasionally on storage systems, which prevented the CMC from discovering or logging in to the system. (Also available as patch 40001). After a site in a Multi-Site configuration goes down and comes back up, the auto-rebalancing of iscsi sessions correctly honors site designation of servers and storage systems. Added improvements to prevent a rare scenario where I/O may get interrupted if a volume becomes unavailable while rebooting a single storage system in a cluster and the management group is using the HP DSM for MPIO. In management groups with large number of volumes or active iscsi sessions, improvements were added to the upgrade process so that iscsi sessions are successfully reconnected during the upgrade. Improved the error message displayed in the CMC if the Upgrades.xml manifest is invalid when using local media to upgrade. The improved error message includes instructions for the user to correct the situation. Added improvements to the LeftHand OS manager so that if unusual networking problems cause the quorum monitor to remove a manager from the management group for 10 minutes at a time, the manager process shuts itself down properly and volume connections to that manager are safely moved to a different manager. After making a remote copy of a remote copy, the CLI now correctly lists the same primary snapshot that is listed in the CMC. Fixes 5

Version 11.0 When logging in to a storage system after rebooting all storage systems from the CMC, login will complete successfully. Previously, an error message (such as Unable to login : Socket closed) could display and require you to re-enter the storage system credentials. The HP StoreVirtual 4730 no longer experiences performance degradation when generating the following reports: the Hardware Diagnostic Report or a Support Bundle in the CMC, or hpadu logs using the Systems Management Homepage. When upgrading from Version 8.5 to 10.5 using the 11.x CMC, a benign error message is no longer displayed. Previously, the error message did not prevent the upgrade from completing successfully, but it could not be removed while the upgrade was in progress. When adding a new disk to the StoreVirtual VSA using the VMware vcenter hot add feature, that disk now appears in the CMC without having to log out and log in again. Implemented the following security fixes: The use of inappropriate commands through the CLI utility command is now prevented. A potential Denial of Service attack is eliminated. Full-access privileges that were enabled for read-only Active Directory users in certain situations has been removed. An issue is fixed whereby snapshot schedules were becoming backlogged when some deleting snapshots got stuck and did not finish deletion. This issue may have impacted iscsi sessions and data migration. Patch fixes this issue. The permanent StoreVirtual license will no longer be changed from permanent to temporary on StoreVirtual 4x30 platforms running LeftHand OS This issue is resolved in Patch Improvements to the overall design of Application Aware Snapshot Manager fixed an issue that prevented the use of application-managed snapshots after upgrading to LeftHand OS 10.5 and VMware vsphere 5.1. Previously either of the following error messages would display after upgrading to versions 10.5 and 5.1, respectively: Cannot complete login due to incorrect username or password OR InitializeSecurityContext() failed. When editing the settings of the 10 GigE Emulex NIC, the following error message no longer displays: Cannot change speed, duplex, NIC flow control, or frame size because this storage system does not provide support for those settings The use of non-standard HTTP/HTTPS ports in VMware vcenter is now supported to enable application-managed snapshots to be taken. Changed the maximum duration for exporting performance data from the CMC from 999 hours (approximately 41 days) to 336 hours (approximately 14 days) to prevent timeout errors. After changing the 10 GbE NIC setting to mbps/full duplex, the setting is now retained after a storage system reboot or restart. Fixed an issue in which excessive memory utilization was observed when new storage systems were added to an existing management group. Due to network configuration issues, the existing managers in the group could not reach the new storage that resulted in excessive memory utilization. 6 Fixes

Fixed an issue that prevented the system from correctly retaining manual network speed settings through reboots. To enhance security of the LeftHand OS software, the software has been revised to verify that x11 port forwarding is disabled and to disable ciphers that support less than 128-bit cipher strength. Improved CLI performance when using commands like getclusterinfo, getgroupinfo, and getvolumeinfo in a management group with a large number of iscsi sessions. This performance improvement should prevent timeouts that have been observed when running applications like Veeam Backup and Replication software against volumes and snapshots in such a configuration. In a scenario in which a volume had an alarm status (such as Unprotected or Error) and multiple recipients were configured for a Warning severity notification, those recipients would receive a volume status report every 10 minutes. This report was sent even though there was no change in the volume status and would continue to be sent until the volume status returned to Normal. LeftHand OS 11.0 will only send a volume status report notification if there is a change in the volume status. Fixed a calculation error in the SNMP get command clusclusterutilization that caused it to report an incorrect value for cluster utilization. Fixed a rare situation in which the underlying disk subsystem became slow due to hardware failures. As a result, the manager process aborted and failed to restart and the "No state found" error appeared in the log. Changed the firmware validation rule in Version 11.0 of the CMC so that it does not offer older firmware patches if the storage system components (like the RAID controller) are already running a newer firmware version. This issue was only seen when the newer version number included a hyphen (-), such as or , which caused the firmware validation rule to fail, resulting in the CMC offering older firmware patches. Fixed an issue that caused Active Directory login to fail on some storage systems in a large management group. This issue occurred because the Active Directory configuration was not synchronized across all storage systems due to an error in the IP address validation rule. Added a System option to the Preferences window in the CMC, which allows users to configure (enable/disable) message filtering, set the processing interval and configure (enable/disable) message filter logging. These options are useful when monitoring multiple, large management groups simultaneously, which previously resulted in the CMC displaying a Not responding message. LeftHand OS 11.0 includes a fix to help maintain compatibility between older storage system versions and the SRA. A specific issue occurred in a mixed management group that contained P4300/P4500 and P4300 G2/P4500 G2 storage systems. The G2 storage systems were upgraded to LeftHand OS 10.5, but the management group version remained at 9.5 because the older P4300/P4500 cannot be upgraded to 10.x. As a result of this mixed version scenario, the 10.x SRA could not discover devices, which put the disaster recovery plan at risk after the 10.5 upgrade. Fixed an issue that validated an Active Directory user with a password containing invalid characters, and that user was subsequently prevented from logging into the CMC. Now an error message is received when configuring Active Directory credentials containing invalid characters. The CLI command setdnsinfo has been fixed to ensure that it does not allow the addition of more than the maximum of three DNS servers. The CLI command creategroup creates a management group using the storage system with the earliest version LeftHand OS, and subsequently adds storage systems running later versions. The Online Upgrade feature now identifies prerequisite patches and the order in which patches will be applied during a software upgrade. Fixes 7

Exporting events to a file no longer fails if the management group name contains an asterisk (*) or a question mark (?). Upgrading to Windows Server 2012 from Windows Server 2008 R2 on a system with DSM for MPIO installed no longer causes HP StoreVirtual DSM for MPIO and disks to become inoperable. The HP StoreVirtual VSA Installer for Microsoft Hyper-V now correctly displays the available virtual disk space. The Japanese version of the CMC now contains the correct localized text for the "Exchange storage system" and "Swap storage system" options. If the Recovery Manager auto-mount service fails to mount a snapshot when the server is not found in the management group, only one error message will be logged. The CLI will no longer create managed snapshots when the volume name is entered incorrectly patches included in 11.5 Patch Resolves issues that may lead to a software connection abort or a system discovery failure. Patch Resolves an issue that causes StoreVirtual VSA for Hyper-V (this includes P4000 VSA for Hyper-V) to be non-functional due to the changes in device persistent names when the hypervisor is upgraded to Windows Server 2012 R2. NOTE: Patch is not a 11.0 LeftHand OS prerequisite patch. It is a critical patch that must be installed before upgrading to Windows Server 2012 R2. Patch Addresses a connectivity issue with 10 GigE NICs on HP P4x00 G2 systems. Patch Fixes an issue with high memory utilization in LeftHand OS Patch Fixes an issue that may change the permanent StoreVirtual license from permanent to temporary on StoreVirtual 4x30 platforms running LeftHand OS Patch This patch resolves an issue where the motherboard chassis serial number displays incorrectly. Patch Fixes an issue that prevented the system from correctly retaining manual network speed settings through reboots. Patch This patch enables a 10 TB to 50 TB HP StoreVirtual VSA 2014 upgrade license to be installed on a version prior to HP StoreVirtual VSA Patch This patch fixes issues with Active Directory user privileges and the potential inappropriate use of the CLI utility command on HP StoreVirtual systems running LeftHand OS Patch This patch updates the HP System Management Homepage on HP StoreVirtual systems running LeftHand OS Standalone 10.5 patches included in 11.5 Patch Fixed an issue with snapshot schedules becoming backlogged when some deleting snapshots get stuck and do not finish deletion. This issue may impact iscsi sessions and data migration. Patch Provides enhanced access control for System Management Homepage Patch Set 01 (Patch number ) Version 11.5 includes the 10.5 patch set fixes. 8 Fixes

Centralized Management Console (CMC) An error message about missing files was displayed when downloading files from FTP using a proxy server. The CMC did not accept a DNS domain name if any domain label started with a number. For example, if a user entered abc.8net.com, the CMC displayed the error message, Invalid DNS Domain Name abc.8net.com. When using an HTTP proxy server, applying an upgrade could fail due to the increased size of the upgrade file. The server to which volumes were assigned did not display in the performance dashboard. If an online upgrade failed, the CMC issued a reboot for the storage system to stop the upgrade server process. If the frame size entered is more than 1500, a hyperlink to a warning message is now displayed. LeftHand OS Prerequisites Unassigning multiple FC volumes (10 or more) simultaneously could cause the storage system to become unresponsive. For the 4330, fixed an issue with setting the controller cache ratio properly after the capacitor is fully charged and the controller cache is enabled. User login hung after configuring a management group for Active Directory access. During load balancing, an iscsi initiator could lose connectivity to a volume or snapshot for up to 30 minutes. This was caused by the storage system with the VIP address rebooted or lost network connectivity. During an upgrade to Version 10.5, the iscsi connections would close on the initiator, resulting in loss of access to volumes and required a manual restart of the storage systems. When creating a managed snapshot using a third party backup application, the snapshot did not inherit the same server assignments as the parent volume, which caused backups to fail. If auto rebalance of iscsi sessions has been disabled and the storage system with the iscsi VIP fails, an unexpected iscsi session auto rebalance could occur. Reduced the size of the support bundle by removing the AHS logs that were captured on every storage server in the group. If AHS logs are required, HP Support can generate them using the storage server ilo interface. HP P4300 G2, HP P4500 G2, HP P4800 G2, and HP P4900 G2 storage systems would reboot twice instead of once when a NC552SFP 10 GbE NIC was installed. Fixed an issue with Failover Managers that boot from SAN volumes and experience poor I/O performance, resulting in manager timeouts or hung I/O. The fix removes the FOM from quorum decisions on the cluster. StoreVirtual VSA Installer Fixed an issue that caused the HP StoreVirtual VSA for VMware vsphere to fail if the configuration contained NFS datastores. The patches listed in Table 1 (page 10) are prerequisites for upgrading to 11.x and they are installed automatically through the Online Upgrade feature. Firmware patches are only installed if necessary for your hardware. Prerequisites 9

Table 1 Prerequisite patches for upgrading Patch Description Delivers the latest HP Smart Array P410 RAID controller firmware (5.70). Delivers the latest HP Smart Array P410i RAID controller firmware (5.70). Only installable on 10.5 systems and required for any upgrades from Update for LeftHand OS versions 10.0 or later. Updates the ilo firmware version to 1.22 and fixes an issue with the sensors not working when the BIOS level is incompatible with the system's ilo version and the ilo driver in the LeftHand OS software. This patch updates the Emulex 10 GbE NIC firmware version to NOTE: Patches and 10137, which contain a firmware update for the RAID controller on specific platforms, are automatically applied during the 11.5 upgrade. These patches are applied before the LeftHand OS software is upgraded and they require a reboot. Depending on the size of your configuration, the patch installation could take a few minutes to a few hours to complete. Plan the upgrade accordingly. HP recommends upgrading firmware before upgrading to Version 11.x. Firmware upgrades require rebooting the storage systems. Completing required firmware upgrades first ensures the Version 11.x upgrade is accomplished more quickly. 13 Upgrading the SAN Automatic Online Upgrades are supported in Version 9.x or later. See the HP StoreVirtual Storage Upgrade Guide for more information. Supported upgrade paths Direct upgrades to Version 11.5 can be performed from the following released versions: Version 11.0 Version 10.5 Version 10.0 Version 9.5 Upgrading a management group from 8.5 or 9.0 to 11.5 requires two upgrades - first to Version 10.5 and then to Version Use the Online Upgrades feature to complete the upgrade: 1. When prompted by the CMC to upgrade first to Version 10.5, select the option to upgrade to Version 10.5, including applicable patches. Wait for the 10.5 upgrade to complete. 2. Select the option to upgrade to Version 11.5, including applicable patches. Wait for the upgrade to complete. When finished, the system will be running Version Upgrades and Manager Quorum Alarms In HP StoreVirtual Storage Version 10.0, the notifications for optimum manager configuration in a management group move from the Best Practice Summary to Alarms. Therefore, when you upgrade to Version 10.0 or higher, you might receive alarms about any manager configurations that do not meet the recommended best practice. Compatibility/interoperability For a complete list of supported LeftHand OS software releases and application software compatibility, including for the Failover Manager, Microsoft Windows Server, and VMware vsphere, see the HP StoreVirtual Compatibility Matrix, which is located at: IMPORTANT: HP Insight Remote Support (with Content Level Update 1) supports LeftHand OS HP Insight Control for VMware vcenter or higher is required for storage management in vcenter with management groups running LeftHand OS 11.x. Cross-version compatibility for Remote Copy, the CLI, and the Application Aware Snapshot Manager The LeftHand OS versions and versions supported for these features and applications are listed in Table 3 (page 13). Table 3 Cross-version compatibility LeftHand OS version 8.x x CLI 8.x 9.x Upgrading the SAN 13

Table 3 Cross-version compatibility (continued) LeftHand OS version 10.x 11.x Remote Copy x Application Aware Snapshot Manager 8.x x 1 When using Remote Copy with management groups running different versions of the LeftHand OS, the management group that is the destination for the remote copy must be running the later version. For example, a management group running version 10.5 can create a remote copy to a management group running See the HP StoreVirtual Storage Upgrade Guide for more information. SRA and Site Recovery Manager compatibility Table 4 StoreVirtual SRA and vcenter Site Recovery Manager compatibility HP StoreVirtual Storage Replication Adapter 1 VMware vcenter Site Recovery Manager version x or later 5.1 or later If you run the SRA Version 11.x or 10.x with Site Recovery Manager 5.0, the Recovery operation will not work and the Site Recovery Manager services on the recovery site will stop working. There is no way to make the Recovery operation work with Site Recovery Manager 5.0; this is a known issue in Site Recovery Manager 5.0 and was fixed by VMware in Site Recovery Manager You must uninstall the Site Recovery Manager and SRA on both the protected and recovery sites, and then install the Site Recovery Manager Version or Version 5.1 and the supported SRA Version (11.x or 10.x). Mixed LeftHand OS software versions in management groups HP StoreVirtual Storage management groups can accommodate storage systems that are running different versions of the LeftHand OS software. However, you can only add storage systems that are running a greater software version to a management group that is running an earlier software version. Storage systems with LeftHand OS 11.5 can join management groups running on LeftHand OS versions 14 Compatibility/interoperability

11.0, 10.5, and You cannot add a storage system running 10.5 software to a management group that is running 11.5 software. If you partially upgrade an HP StoreVirtual Storage management group, the management group will continue to run on the earlier software version until the entire cluster is upgraded. To determine the version of your management group, see the HP StoreVirtual Storage Upgrade Guide. Workarounds HP StoreVirtual LeftHand OS Command Line Interface CLI does not allow using equal sign (=) and double quotes (") in username/password credentials of any CLI commands If an administrative user name or password uses characters in the CMC that are not allowed in the CLI, CLI commands that use those credentials will not succeed. To resolve this issue, do one of the following: Change the existing credentials in the CMC to use characters allowed in both the CMC and CLI. Create a new administrative user/group that only uses characters permitted by the CMC and CLI and use that user/group for the CLI commands. Disallowed characters in the CMC credentials Dot (. ) Colon ( : ) Forward slash ( / ) Comma (', ') Backward slash ('\') Semi-colon (';') Single-quote (' ' ') Additional characters disallowed in the CLI Equal sign ( = ) Double quotes ( " ) Output for the getgroupinfo command indicates an unlicensed feature When issuing the getgroupinfo command for a management group, you may see the following status information at the end of the output: STATUS value description Unlicensed This message indicates that the license key for a feature you are using in your SAN has not been licensed yet. Once you apply the license key, this status message will no longer display. In a future release, more detailed information will be provided for the description. Workarounds 15

A disassociated Active Directory user can still execute CLI commands After a user is removed from an Active Directory group, the user can still successfully execute CLI commands. To resolve this issue, perform one of the following actions: Reboot the entire management group. Create and run a script containing five getnsminfo commands from five different authorized users on the storage system that the user is logged in to. This will flush the user out of the cache. You cannot use the CLI to delete an SNMP community string that has no IP mask You cannot delete a community string using the CLI command deletesnmpcommunitystring if the community string does not contain an IP mask. To resolve this issue, use one of the following options: Use the deletesnmpcommunitystring command and do not specify the IP Mask. Use the ClearSnmpSettings command. HP StoreVirtual Centralized Management Console Changing the administrative user password does not log user out of the management group Because of the password change, the management group should log the user out of the management group. Because the logging out does not occur, events and alarms become unavailable, settings cannot be updated, and values in the performance dashboards are displayed as N/A. To resolve this issue, close the CMC and reopen it. The CMC displays an error message when changing settings in a management group or storage system When performing any operation that modifies settings for a storage system or a management group in the CMC, the following message may display: Unable to get settings because of CIM or management gateway issue Click OK to close the message. The operation you are performing will complete successfully. New System Preferences window is missing the online help topic The new System Preferences window has a help button that does not open a help topic. The topic will be added in a future release. See the description of the System Preferences window under Fixes ( System Preferences (page 7)). A performance drop occurs when enabling Adaptive Optimization (AO) for a volume that was originally created with AO not enabled When you change AO to permitted for volumes for which AO was not permitted, there is a period of time during which the performance will not be optimal, as the volume is being prepared for use with AO. Volume and snapshot status in a management group does not change to unavailable when the evaluation period expires When the evaluation license period for a management group expires, you will no longer have access to volumes in the management group. However, the volume and snapshot status will still display as online. The events for license expiration have changed to Warning (at 60 days) and Critical (at 15 days) to notify you that the license is going to expire. To avoid losing access to volumes, be sure to install a permanent license before the evaluation license expires. 16 Workarounds

When creating an administrative group, the permission level given to the first management area (Management Groups, RAID, Drive Hot Swap) applies to all other management areas, regardless of what permissions are assigned to the other areas A new user assigned to an administrative group with mixed permissions will have the same permissions for all areas that the group has set for the first area. For example, if the group has Read-Only permissions for Management Groups, RAID, Drive Hot Swap, and Full permissions for Network (TCP/IP, SNMP, DNS, Time), a user assigned to that group will have Read-Only permissions for Network as well as for Management Groups, RAID, Drive Hot Swap. To avoid this issue, create groups with the same permissions in all areas, rather than mixed permissions. When creating a management group, using the DNS name for an NTP server fails To resolve this issue, do one of the following: Use the IP address of the NTP server when creating a management group. Navigate to the management group Time tab and click Refresh All. Exported System Summary file contents are delimited by tohten (Japanese comma) character To import the System Summary data into another application using the.csv format, replace tohten with, using a text editor. HP StoreVirtual DSM for Microsoft MPIO No issues Notifications and alerts Fibre Channel No alert is issued if DNS servers are unavailable This issue will be addressed in a future release. SNMP clients and multi-byte characters SNMP clients must be configured to use UTF-8 encoding to properly display multi-byte characters. The alarm does not clear when a DNS server is fixed or comes back online The following warning may display when the system attempts to send an alert: EID_GLOBAL_CONFIG_MISCONFIGURED: The ' ' configuration status is 'Misconfigured'. If DNS and the server are unavailable briefly, the configuration is deleted. When DNS and the server become available again, this message displays because the configuration no longer exists. You must reconfigure the configuration to stop this warning message and begin receiving alerts again. After rebooting a storage system, volumes do not immediately display as mounted in the CMC When viewing the Servers category, Volume and Snapshots tab, the Active Connection status of volumes reflected in the CMC may take approximately 10 seconds to update following the reboot of a Fibre Channel storage system. Alert for Fibre Channel port down displays incorrect cluster membership If a Fibre Channel storage system in a management group is rebooted or otherwise loses connectivity to the Fibre Channel fabric, it will generate an alert for each port on the storage system. If there are multiple clusters in the management group, the alerts will report the incorrect cluster membership for the storage system. Workarounds 17

Set boot from SAN using the Emulex HBA To use boot from SAN with the Emulex HBA, use Emulex OneCommand and set the boot LUN to 5. Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 require hot fixes to avoid volume availability issues when using Fibre Channel Transient errors may cause issues whereby an MPIO disk device could incorrectly be removed from the host after a short duration Fibre Channel link failure. This can result in data unavailability issues and possibly data loss issues. To resolve these issues, perform the following steps: 1. Install the hotfix listed in HP recommends rebooting the server before installing Install the hotfix listed in There is also another hotfix available for Microsoft cluster services that can supersede KB This hotfix addresses an issue in Microsoft clusters where a cluster resource could unexpectedly end up in redirected state. This hotfix is not recommended unless you experience an issue similar to what is outlined in the article found at For a Fibre Channel volume, the Performance Monitor reports 0.0 for the first volume statistics when a second volume is created and mounted on the same server This happens because the path of first volume gets changed when the second volume is mounted, so the Performance Monitor displays 0.0 for the older path. To solve this issue, remove the older path and add the new path of the first volume to see the correct performance values. Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V cluster shows disk errors on the active node during scheduled application-managed snapshots when using Fibre Channel The snapshot process quiesces the volume, then takes the snapshot, then mounts the snapshot using Fibre Channel, then unmounts the snapshot. Unmounting the snapshot breaks the Fibre Channel connection, and this sometimes generates MPIO and disk errors in the Windows Event log. You can ignore these errors. The snapshot completed successfully. Hardware and platforms RAID 6 contains a single array when using 4 TB drives in the HP StoreVirtual 4530 All HP StoreVirtual 4530 storage systems with 4 TB drives ship with RAID 6 configured as a single 12 drive array. If more than two drives fail at the same time, the storage system must be re-imaged. Online upgrade to Version 11.x fails on a 32-bit Failover Manager Older versions of the Failover Manager for VMware, such as Version 8.5 or 9.0, or a Version 9.5 Failover Manager for Microsoft Hyper-V, are 32-bit and no longer supported. To resolve this issue, remove the older version of the Failover Manager and install the 11.x version from the HP StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) DVD or.iso image. Drive status may be reported differently in the CMC and ilo if a drive is not properly seated or is running an older version of firmware CMC shows drive status as Active, while the same drive status in the ilo information System Information storage tab is reported as Degraded. Try the following actions to resolve this issue: Reseat the problem drive. If the issue still exists, reboot the storage system after reseating the drive. 18 Workarounds

If the drive is running older firmware, update the drive firmware. If ilo still shows the drive status Degraded, then replace the drive. In the HP StoreVirtual 4730, when two drives are unavailable and the hot spare is rebuilding, the Device status is not reported properly on the RAID Setup tab in the CMC The status remains at 0% estimating. However, you can see the updated RAID rebuilding status, with the percentage completed and estimated time remaining, on the storage system Hardware Information tab. Failed drive status in HP StoreVirtual 4730 shows as Hot spare down, off or removed When a drive is removed in an HP StoreVirtual 4730, that drive status is incorrectly reported as Hot spare down, off or removed. However, the hot spare drive status is either active or rebuilding against the failed drive at that point in time. The removed drive is the only drive that is off or removed. A P4900 G2 controller firmware mismatch event does not generate an SNMP trap If the P410 controllers in a P4900 G2 storage system have different firmware versions, the firmware version mismatch generates an event. However, that event does not generate an SNMP trap. This situation could occur if a controller is replaced in a storage system and the replacement controller is at a different firmware version. When splitting the P4800 G2 10 GbE NICS into a custom configuration for iscsi and management, the TCP speed/duplex reports Unknown On P4800 G2 storage systems running the LeftHand OS versions listed in the table, if the Ethernet ports are configured with a speed other than the supported speeds listed, the network controller Speed/Method and Duplex/Method are reported as Unknown when viewed on the TCP Status tab of the storage system Network category. LeftHand OS version Patch Set 2 or greater or greater Supported NIC configurations 100 Mb, 9.9 Gb, 10 Gb 100 Mb, 1 Gb, 9 Gb, 9.9 Gb, 10 Gb Undefined and Unknown values are showing for Usage Remaining and Wear Status of drives under SmartSSD Wear Gauge in System Management Homepage for P4900 G2 SSDs The System Management Homepage displays incorrect values for the SSD status. The correct status is viewable on the ADU. The CMC also reports the correct status in the following locations: The Hardware Information report in the storage system Diagnostics category The Disk Setup tab in the storage system Storage category An event is also generated with the SSD status. Installation and upgrades If the LeftHand OS interface is on the same VLAN as iscsi, and iscsi has the gateway, after applying the upgrade, the CMC/StoreVirtual SAN will not be able to access the gateway. To resolve this issue, change the LeftHand OS interface before beginning the upgrade. SELinux setting affects installing and running the CMC Before installing the CMC on a Linux server, you must ensure that SELinux on the Linux server is set to permissive mode. SELinux is enabled and set to enforcing mode by default on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and higher. Workarounds 19

20 Workarounds Upgrade issue with reimaged HP StoreVirtual 4530 with 4 TB drives If an HP StoreVirtual 4530 has 4 TB drives and requires reimaging, if the 10.5 System Recovery DVD is used, the reimaging will be successful, but the 4530 cannot be upgraded to To prevent this issue, use the 11.0 System Recovery DVD if reimaging is required. Upgrade from 10.5 to 11.x fails to complete the post-qualification testing due to an Active Directory password issue If the user who is logged into the management group has an AD password that contains special characters which are not allowed in 11.0 ( List of disallowed characters (page 15)) the upgrade process cannot log into the management group to complete the post-qualification process. You can avoid this issue by changing the AD password so that special characters are not used. If you encounter this situation, you can resolve it as follows: 1. Stop the upgrade on the CMC. 2. Change the AD password. 3. Log back into the storage system and retry the upgrade. CMC post-qualification fails to detect failed upgrade In some circumstances, an online upgrade fails and the Upgrade Summary reports that the upgrade was successful. However, the version reported in the Upgrade Summary is incorrect. To resolve this issue, retry the upgrade. The CMC becomes unresponsive after stopping an online upgrade using F11 Under certain conditions, you may stop an active upgrade process by pressing F11. This action is only available when a discreet upgrade operation is taking an unexpectedly long period of time (approximately 5 minutes). Pressing F11 aborts the upgrade process, but it causes the CMC to be unresponsive. To resolve this issue, close and relaunch the CMC. During the online upgrade from 10.5 to 11.x, if the storage system encounters an error such as a disk failure, and is powered off after the second stage of the upgrade has started on the storage system, the storage system becomes unavailable and the CMC becomes unresponsive Stop the CMC using the Windows Task Manager. Contact HP Support for assistance with the storage system issue. After upgrading from 10.5 to 11.x, the Performance Monitor does not show any data for the management group that was created using a 10.5 CMC This issue is fixed but requires that you complete the following one-time configuration steps after completing the upgrade to If you are upgrading from 11.0 to 11.5, this issue does not occur. 1. Select Performance Monitor Tasks Reset to Defaults. 2. Select Performance Monitor Tasks Save Statistics Settings. 3. Verify the settings by observing the Performance Monitor. The HP Support Alerts window in the installer wizard uses incorrect characters and font set for Japanese This issue only occurs on the HP Support Alerts page. You can use the CMC without any other font issues. No warning that 10.x or later upgrade does not complete when the management group contains unsupported platforms If a management group contains storage systems that do not support an upgrade to 10.x or later and you attempt to upgrade the management group to 10.x or later, the upgrade will not complete. Further, there will not be a warning or message that the upgrade cannot complete. To resolve this issue, you must migrate the systems that cannot be upgraded to 10.x or later out of the management group. Supported systems are the HP StoreVirtual P4x00 G2 and HP StoreVirtual 4x30.

During an online upgrade from 8.5 to 10.x or later with storage systems on different subnets, I/O stops for approximately 2 minutes No data is lost but I/O to the volume may stop long enough for applications to time out. If a timeout occurs, the application must be restarted manually. If there is a critical application involved that cannot tolerate an interruption in service, then an upgrade requiring a double hop should be scheduled during a time when the application can be taken offline. A CMC on a Windows 2008 Server is unable to automatically discover storage systems if the firewall is on Disable the Windows Firewall on the computer on which the CMC is installed. To ensure desired system settings are retained after upgrading from Version 8.5, use Copy Configuration before upgrading Storage system settings are not retained after upgrading from Version 8.5 to Version 11.x. In the case of storage systems in a management group, one storage system in the group serves as the source for the settings that are applied to all the storage systems being upgraded. Therefore, use the Copy Configuration function in a Version 8.5 CMC to apply the desired settings to all the systems that will be upgraded. The storage system settings that may be retained after upgrading to Version 11.x include settings for the following features: Alerts, including Alert s SNMP general settings and traps Remote log files Upgrading the CMC using Online Upgrades on a 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x server requires additional package installation To upgrade the CMC using Online Upgrades on a 64-bit RHEL 6.x server, install the following two packages from 32-bit RHEL 6.x: glibc libstdc++ After installing these packages, try installing the CMC again. Upgrading the CMC from Version 9.5 and earlier to Version 10.5 or later not supported on 64 bit OpenJDK on RHEL When upgrading the CMC from Version 9.5 or earlier to 10.5 or later, the following error message is displayed: Not Supported OpenjDK 64-Bit Server VM on amd64 Linux not supported. If you are already running a CMC on RHEL with 64 bit OpenJDK, you may see other issues with the CMC. To resolve this issue, install Oracle Java Version 1.6 or greater. On Windows 2008 Server, if proxy is configured, the StoreVirtual VSA installer cannot connect to the ESX Server If proxy settings are configured on the Windows 2008 Server on which you are attempting to run the StoreVirtual VSA installer, the installer is unable to connect to the ESX Server. Before running the StoreVirtual VSA installer, you must disable any proxy settings on the Windows 2008 Server. Workarounds 21

iscsi iscsi sessions fail if server configuration is changed Due to a code enhancement, if any of the following items for the iscsi server configuration are changed, all server connections will be disconnected: iscsi initiator node name Networking CHAP required or not required CHAP name, target secret, and initiator secret (if CHAP is required) This change ensures that the connections be re-established as soon as changes are implemented. Storage goes down down and ping timeouts are observed on a StoreVirtual 4330 running LeftHand OS version 11.0 using NC552SFP when reinserting a network cable to an H3C5820 or HP5820 Switch StoreVirtual 4330 storage systems, configured with bonds on 10 GB network cards, intermittently lose ping to these systems. To resolve this issue, ensure that all ports connected to StoreVirtual 4330 storage systems are part of a separate VLAN. When deleting the ALB bond on a storage system that has been upgraded from 9.5 to 11.5, both NIC ports become disabled The ports lose the assigned IP addresses and the CMC cannot find the storage system. To resolve this issue, log in to the Configuration Interface using ilo or KVM solution (Keyboard, Video, Mouse), or connect to the StoreVirutal VSA using Hyper-V Manager or vsphere Client and reassign the IP addresses to the storage system interfaces. 10 GB NIC status in TCP status shows failed after changing the NIC Flow Control settings Do not configure the flow control or speed settings on 10 GB network interface cards. If you attempt to change the setting, the change does not take effect. NOTE: The default flow control setting on rack mount storage systems is off. The default flow control setting on blade storage systems is on. To recover from this situation, call HP Support for assistance. 22 Workarounds

Remote Copy While cross version Remote Copy is occurring from 10.0 or later to 8.5 management groups, if copying halts because the cluster is full, the CMC displays the "See Alarms Window" error message, although the 8.5 management group does not have the Alarms window The Version 9.x and greater Alarms and Events feature is not compatible with pre-9.x versions of software. Review the Alarms window for Version 9.x or later management groups. If you are operating in a mixed SAN environment with management groups earlier than Version 9.x, also review the Alerts window. Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) Integration SCVMM 2012 R2 is not supported The StoreVirtual release versions 11.0 and 11.5 do not support SCVMM 2012 R2. Provisioning FC storage to clustered Hyper-V hosts running Windows Server 2012 fails Provisioning Fibre Channel storage to a clustered Windows 2012 Server Hyper-V cluster fails with the message, SM_RC_UNKNOWN_ERROR. Fibre Channel is not supported with SCVMM for the 11.5 release. Cannot automatically provision volumes with CHAP authentication CHAP cannot be automatically configured on volumes created with SCVMM. This is because of the SMI-S standard, rather than an issue with either SCVMM or the StoreVirtual storage system. To use CHAP, follow the instructions in the HP StoreVirtual Storage User Guide to configure CHAP manually. Deleting a stored virtual machine does not delete the storage To resolve this issue, use the CMC to identify and delete any stranded SmartClones. After registering a provider and creating a LUN, the Available Capacity value for a storage pool is not correct The value displayed in the Available Capacity column for a Storage Pool (LeftHand OS Cluster) is not correct in Fabric\Storage\Classifications and Pools in the SCVMM GUI. To resolve this issue, manually refresh or manually rescan the provider in the Fabric\Storage\Providers node (SCVMM UI). Running Register-SCStorageLogicalUnit on an array of LUNs causes the LUNs to be assigned to multiple storage groups A single LUN can belong to only one storage group. If the commandlet Register-SCStorageLogicalUnit is run on an array of LUNs, then the Get-SCStorageLogicalUnit on a particular volume will return an invalid configuration. To fix this issue, perform the following steps: 1. Unregister the volumes using the command Unregister_SCStorageLogicalUnit. 2. Run the SCStorageLogicalUnit commandlet again on each individual volume. Storage Migration does not delete the source storage; it is copied instead of moved When migrating the storage of a virtual machine from one volume to another, the original storage is not totally removed and will display in both locations. Update-StorageProviderCache fails with a Timeout If running the commandlet Update-StorageProviderCache -Discoverylevel Full and more then one storage provider is registered, it results in the following error message: Update-StorageProviderCache : Timeout.
