2 Overland Storage REO SERIES Preface This document assumes that you have already set up and configured your REO. For more information, see the Setup Guide that came with your appliance. This document describes how to configure a REO virtual tape-library (VTL) via Fibre Channel (FC) that uses a QLogic QLA2310 host bus adapter (HBA) with Windows Server 2003 and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Verifying that the HBA and Windows Recognize the VTL 1 Start the SANsurfer Utility, and verify that the OVERLAND NEO Series and associated tape drives (HP Ultrium 2-SCSI) are present. 2! 3 Application Note 2 Launch the Windows Computer Management program, click Device Manager, and make sure that the Overland NEO SERIES Medium Changers and HP Ultrium 2-SCSI SCSI Sequential Devices are listed. Configuring the VTL with TSM To use TSM with a REO VTL, you need to instruct the VTL to use the TSM passthrough drivers. 1 In the Windows Computer Management program, right-click Overland Neo Series Medium Changer, and select Update Driver. I will choose the driver to install, and click Next. 4 Select IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Medium Changers, and click Next. 4! 5 Application Note 5 When the Cannot Start this Hardware dialog box appears, click Finish. 6 Right-click the first HP Ultrium 2-SCSI drive that represents a virtual tape, and select Update Driver. 7 Select Install from a list or specific location, and click Next. 8 Select Don t search. 6 Overland Storage REO SERIES 9 Select IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Tape Drives, and click Next. 10 When the Cannot Start this Hardware dialog box appears, click Finish. The devices associated with the REO VTL will all be marked with an exclamation point (bang), which indicates that you must restart the host server to implement the changes. 11 Restart the host server. 12 Start the Tivoli Storage Manager. 13 Expand TSM Device Driver, and then click Device Information. 6! 7 Application Note 14 Make a note of the Device Name for each of the virtual REO devices. Example:! NEO (virtual library) = lb ! HP LTO-2 (virtual drive 1) = mt ! HP LTO-2 (virtual drive 2) = mt Expand TSM Server1, right-click Command Line, and select Command Line Prompt. Configuring the VTL with TSM " 7

8 Overland Storage REO SERIES 16 In the Command box, type the command to define a library, and click Submit. 17 Using the information that you recorded earlier, type the command to define a path for the library, and click Submit. Use the path that you recorded earlier. 18 Type the command to define the first virtual drive, and click Submit. The element address starts at 480 and increments by one. 8! 9 Application Note 19 Repeat the previous step for any additional virtual tape-drives. The second drive configured uses an element address of Using the information that you recorded earlier, type the command to define the path of the first virtual drive. 21 Repeat the previous step to define the path for the second virtual tapedrive. 15 Application Note 3 Restore the files to the Original location, or redirect the restore by selecting Following location and providing an alternate path. 4 To start the job, click Restore. 5 If you want to view more information about the active restore job, click Report.
