1 NEO SERIES Configuration Information for Firmware Version 4.29 This document contains information on the configuration options for the NEO SERIES tape libraries. 1
2 Description of Configuration Options The items available in the Edit Options menu are as follows: Library Options NEO Config Info 429 Library Remains Offline After Power-up Initialization: Library does not go online after power-up initialization. You must select the Online option from the Menu screen on the Graphical User Interface (GUI) touch screen. The default is Disabled. Auto Power-Up An Installed Drive: Enables a tape drive to be automatically powered up (after a delay), after replacing a tape drive if you do not explicitly power up the tape drive from the GUI touch screen. The default is Enabled. Unload Mode: Lets you determine whether a SCSI Move Medium command is interpreted as Implicit or Explicit. If Implicit, the library unloads a tape drive before attempting to move a cartridge from that tape drive. If Explicit, the host may issue a SCSI UNLOAD command to a tape drive before each MOVE MEDIUM command that removes a cartridge from that tape drive. The library does not require the tape to be unloaded first to execute a host initiated MOVE MEDIUM command when the option is set to Explicit. The default is Implicit. Total Reserved Slots: Lets you reserve up to 13 data cartridge slots for DLT tape drive libraries and up to 15 data cartridge slots for LTO tape drive libraries. The reserved slots are removed from the list of available data cartridge slots that are reported to the host software. The reserved slots are the last slots in the right magazine of the LXN2000 and the last slots in the lower right magazine of the LXN4000. For multi-module systems, the reserved slots are in the master module. The reserved slots can be used to store cleaning cartridges for manual cleaning and for the Auto Clean Mode. Reserved slots are labeled Clng n in the Status window. The default is 0 reserved slots. Auto Clean Mode: Lets you disable or enable an automatic cleaning cycle. To use this option, you must have reserved one or more slots for cleaning cartridges using the Total Reserved Slots option. The default is Disabled. Drive and Slot Numbering: Lets you specify whether SCSI elements in the library begin with either zero or one. This only affects the GUI touch screen, not the actual SCSI element addresses. The default is One Based. Library Mode: Lets you set the robotics operating mode to Random, Sequential Drive 1, Sequential Drive n (two or more drives) or Sequential Split. Sequential Drive n and Sequential Split requires two or more drives in the library. The default is Random. Sequential mode is not available with multi-module configurations or libraries that are partitioned. Random mode is the normal operating mode that gives complete control of the robotics to the host software. 2
3 Sequential mode is locally controlled. Sequential operations begin with any cartridge loaded into Drive 1 (Sequential Drive 1) or Drive n (Sequential Drive n). The library monitors the status of the drive and when the host unloads the cartridge from the drive, it returns the cartridge to the magazine, and then loads the next cartridge in magazine numerical order. This operation continues until all of the cartridges have been loaded, or until an empty slot is encountered. Sequential Split mode operates as above but dedicates the magazines as follows: LXN 2000 Left Magazine Drive 1 Right Magazine Drive 2 LXN 4000 Upper Left Magazine Drive 1 Upper Right Magazine Drive 2 Lower Left Magazine Drive 3 Lower Right Magazine Drive 4 Sequential Mode: Lets you select Normal or Recirculate mode of sequential operation. The default is Normal. Normal mode operates as described above in Library Mode. Recirculate mode, instead of stopping after the cartridge in the last slot for the drive has been unloaded by the host, continues the operation by loading the first cartridge for the drive. Recirculation will continue until an empty slot is encountered or the operator unloads the tape using the GUI touch screen. LCD Contrast Adjust: Lets you increase or decrease the contrast of the LCD display. The incremental steps range from 0 to 31. The default is 16. Mail Slot Mode: Lets you enable or disable the mail slot in the left magazine(s) of the library. For multi-module systems, the mail slot(s) in the master and each slave module can be individually enabled or disabled. The default is Mail Slot Enabled. Barcode Label Size: Lets you limit the length of the barcode label reported in the response to the SCSI Read Element Status command and shown in the cartridge map displays. This is to accommodate software that requires that barcode labels be less than eight characters. The possible settings are 1 through 8. The default is 8 Characters. Barcode Label Alignment: Lets you set the alignment of the barcode label information reported in the response to the SCSI Read Element Status command. The settings are Left and Right. When used in conjunction with the label size option, it can strip unwanted trailing characters (left alignment) or unwanted leading characters (right alignment). The default is Left Alignment. Barcode Label Check Digit: Lets you enable or disable the verification of a check digit character in the barcode label. For barcode labels without the check character, select Disabled. For barcode labels with the check character, select Enable Check, Send [the 3
4 check character to the host] or Enable Check, Don't Send [the check character to the host]. If disabled and a barcode label with a check character is read, the check character is displayed as part of the barcode. If enabled and a barcode label with no check character is read, the library will indicate No Label Present. The default is Disabled. Barcode Reader: This option enables or disables read retries of barcode labels on individual cartridges. The default is Retries Enabled. Module Configuration: Lets you configure the unit as a standalone library or as a master or slave module in a multi-module library system. The default is Standalone. Custom Display: Lets you turn off the Overland Storage name and logo that is displayed during the Power On Self Test and on the default display screen after power up completes. When enabled, Overland Storage is replaced with Initializing during the POST. At the default display, the upper left corner is blank and the Technical Support Assistance information screen is disabled. The area of the display that showed the Overland Storage name and model name is blank. Also, the Overland Storage name on the WebTLC Status page has been removed. The default setting is Disabled. The Enabled or Disabled setting for this option will not change when Set Defaults is selected using the GUI (Menu > Maintenance > Set Defaults) or the NeoCenter Utility. Library Auto Power-On Mode: This option will not display if the library does not have the hardware required to support it. This option lets you enable or disable an auto poweron feature for the library. When enabled, if the power is interrupted the library will auto power up as soon as the power is restored. When disabled, the operator will have to touch the GUI touch screen when the power is restored. The factory setting is Disabled. The Enabled or Disabled setting for this option will not change when Set Defaults is selected using the GUI (Menu > Maintenance > Set Defaults) or the NeoCenter Utility. SCSI Options Drive n Bus ID: Lets you set the SCSI addresses of the drive(s). The designators Drive 1 through Drive n refer to the first through nth drives, counting left to right, top to bottom from the only or top module. The default is SCSI ID 1 for Drive 1, SCSI ID 2 for Drive 2, etc. Library SCSI Bus ID: Lets you set the SCSI address of the library robotics. The default is SCSI ID 6. Library SCSI Bus Parity: Lets you enable or disable the library robotics SCSI bus parity checking. The default is Enabled.
