3 Preface This document briefly explains the operations that need to be performed by the user in order to connect an ETERNUS2000 model 100 or 200, ETERNUS4000 model 300, 400, 500, or 600, or ETERNUS8000 model 700, 800, 900, 1100, 1200, 2100, or 2200 Disk storage system to a non- Fujitsu brand server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux and using QLogic Fibre Channel cards. This document should be used in conjunction with any other applicable user manuals, such as those for the ETERNUS2000 model 100 or 200, ETERNUS4000 model 300, 400, 500, or 600, or ETERNUS8000 model 700, 800, 900, 1100, 1200, 2100, or 2200 Disk storage system, server, OS used, Fibre Channel cards, drivers, etc. Note that this manual refers the following documents. Server Support Matrix Also, note that in this document the ETERNUS2000 models 100 and 200, ETERNUS4000 models 300, 400, 500, and 600, and ETERNUS8000 models 700, 800, 900, 1100, 1200, 2100, and 2200 Disk storage systems are collectively referred to as ETERNUS Disk storage systems. "Fibre Channel card" refers to the Fibre Channel interface module normally used in the server. A "Host Bus Adapter" (HBA) or "Channel Adapter" (CA) may be used instead, depending on the server. "Fibre Channel cable" refers to the cable that is used to connect the ETERNUS Disk storage systems and server over a Fibre Channel interface. "FC cable", "optical fibre cable", or "multi mode Fibre Channel cable" may be used instead, depending on the storage system. Italics are used to show variables such as values and characters that appear in command parameters and output examples. 5

7 Chapter 1 Workflow This manual is used when performing the setup procedure described in "Installing and Setting Up the Drivers" of the "ETERNUS Disk storage systems Server Connection Guide (Fibre Channel) for Linux". This manual provides a different chapter for each OS version. Refer to the chapter appropriate for the OS being used. Workflow Set the Fibre Channel Cards BIOS Parameters Set up the BIOS parameters for the Fibre Channel card. 9 Chapter 2 For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 All work after this point requires "root" privileges. When using RHEL5 supported Fibre Channel cards, this procedure is used for all OS architectures, and Fibre Channel card BIOS and driver versions. 2.1 Setting the Fibre Channel Cards BIOS Parameters Procedure 1 Turn the server on, and watch for the QLogic BIOS boot message to be displayed, in order to confirm that the BIOS version specified in "Server Support Matrix" is installed. If the BIOS version differs from that specified in "Server Support Matrix", download and install the BIOS version specified in "Server Support Matrix" from the QLogic Corp website. When two or more Fibre Channel cards are installed, the [Select Host Adapter] window appears. Select the Fibre Channel card to be set in the window. 9

The [Configuration Settings] menu appears. End of procedure 2.2 Installing the Fibre Channel Card Driver Check whether the Fibre Channel card driver for the Fibre Channel card and OS combination is the OS standard driver or not. Also, check the driver versions using the "Server Support Matrix". When the Fibre Channel card requires a standard kernel package driver The standard add-on driver for the OS should be used. When the Fibre Channel card requires a non-standard driver Download and install the driver specified in the "Server Support Matrix" from the QLogic Corp web-site. Refer to the Fiber Channel card user guide in the QLogic Corp web-site for details. 13

14 Chapter 2 For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 > 2.3 Setting the Driver Parameters 2.3 Setting the Driver Parameters Open the "/etc/modprobe.conf" file in an editor such as "vi", and add the setting values for each driver. Setting value varies according to the ETERNUS Multipath driver type, and what ETERNUS Disk storage systems (ETERNUS2000, ETERNUS4000, or ETERNUS8000) are used. alias scsi_hostadapterx qla2400 options qla2xxx ql2xfailover=0 ql2xmaxqdepth=x ql2xtgtemul=0 When SCSI and SCSI-RAID devices are installed on the system, incremental numbers ("2, 3,...") are added to the end of the "scsi_hostadapterx" parameters. 16 Chapter 2 For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 > 2.4 Creating an Initial RAM Disk 2.4 Creating an Initial RAM Disk Create an initial RAM disk image file to match the kernel being used. Perform the following procedure. Procedure 1 Use the following command to check which kernel is being used. # uname -r 2 Backup the existing initial RAM disk image file, then create a new initial RAM disk image file. Example: For kernel version el5 # cp /boot/initrd el5.img /boot/initrd e15.img.bak # mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd e15_new.img el5 New initial RAM disk image file name 3 Set the boot loader. Edit "/etc/grub.conf" with an editor such as "vi". Comment out the previous initial RAM disk image file and add the new initial RAM disk image file. Example # initrd /initrd el5.img initrd /initrd el5_new.img End of procedure 2.5 Rebooting the OS Reboot the OS. After restarting the OS, check "/var/log/messages" and confirm that the correct version of the Fibre Channel card driver has been installed. 16
