5 Chapter 1 Overview Intended Use The GxPicture software enables other imaging and practice management software programs to interface with the GXDP-700 TM device. Network You can operate the GxPicture software on a Local Area Network (LAN). Based on the size of the practice and the volume of images captured per year, we recommend that you have a trained network technician set up your network and configure GxPicture for network operation. About this Manual This manual uses the following convention: Fields requiring action are shown as a bold font and indicate that an action or selection must be completed. Examples: Select the Image folder layout. Click OK. Installation and Setup Installation and setup must only be carried out by service personnel trained and approved by the manufacturer of the unit. Positioning the PC(s) The PC(s) connected to the unit should not be used in the patient environment. The minimum horizontal distance between the patient and the PC(s) is 1.5 m (4.5 ft). 7 Chapter 2 Installation Installation Guide for Gendex Software Driver (GxPicture ) IMPORTANT: Before installing the GxPicture software driver, ensure the following: Temporarily disable any software, including antivirus software that may be running and may restrict access to computer resources (e.g. USB ports). Do not plug in any KaVo/Gendex digital device. For installation, you must login using an MS Windows system administrator account. VixWin Platinum users only: Upgrade VixWin Platinum software to the latest compatible version. Have installed all the latest service packs required by your Windows Operating System. To install the GxPicture driver software either as a new installation or as an upgrade, do the following: 1. Insert the GxPicture Driver CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the AutoPlay menu does not appear after a few moments, click the Start button, then select Run, and type D:\REV#GxPicture.exe (where D is the letter of the CD drive and REV# is GxPicture revision number). If the CD drive letter is not known, double click My computer icon on the desktop, and make a note of the letter of the CD drive icon From the Choose Setup Language menu select the language for the installation and click Next EN Rev : Ukkonen Juha-Pekka :26:13

8 GXDP-700 User Manual 3. Select your Dental Imaging Software and click Next. Then click Install on the next screen Read the Software License Agreement and click Yes to accept and continue Select the products to install/upgrade and click Next. Then click Install on the next screen. The driver installation copies all required files to the computer After all files are installed select Yes and click Finish to complete the installation and reboot. NOTE: When upgrading previous versions of GxPicture, all existing KaVo/Gendex drivers are automatically detected and upgraded to the newest version. To add new devices, insert the GxPicture CD again after the version upgrade : Ukkonen Juha-Pekka :26: EN Rev 0

9 Chapter 3 Connect Unit to a PC/LAN The procedure for connecting the unit to a single PC or several PCs in a local area network (LAN) is exactly the same except that every PC in the LAN needs to be given a unique ID number. Right click the GXDP-700 Ready icon and select Properties to open the device Setup window. The Not Ready icon is displayed when the device is powered OFF or if the device is not properly communicating with GxPicture. Configure the Communication Link to the PC In this process, the IP address of the unit is configured. Both the IP address used by the x-ray unit and the driver configuration is updated. NOTE: For point-to-point installations, this step is typically not needed. Set IP Addresses to Workstation and GXDP-700 Device 1. Connect the GXDP-700 device and the workstation to the network. 2. Switch the unit on and carry out initialization. Press a position panel button as requested on the GXDP-700 device Graphical User Interface (GUI). 3. Start the workstation and then set the IP address of the workstation to (using windows control panel). If required, a different address may be used, as long as the GXDP-700 device and workstation are on the same subnet and no other device on the network has the same address. 4. Right click the Gendex GXDP-700 icon on the windows taskbar and select Multiroom. If the GXDP-700 device is reserved, close exam and release it. 5. The Release Control button (See Image 1 below) releases the GXDP-700 device and the Take Control button (See Image 2 below) reserves the device EN Rev : Ukkonen Juha-Pekka :26:13

Close Exam by clicking the Release Control button, and the Status changes to Available, as shown in Image On the GXDP-700 device hold Patient Positioning & Laser Positioning buttons for no less than 1 second. Workstation 1 GE Available 3. Enter IP address in GXDP-700 IP address field in workstation, click the Change button and the status changes are: Configure Disconnected Available Workstation Connect GXDP-700 with a Specific IP Address Image 2 1. 11 Connect Unit to a PC/LAN Multi-Room Connection This procedure is to enable several PCs to interface with the device. 1. Click Change to connect the GXDP-700 device with specified IP address. NOTE: An automatic technique locates the unit within the local area network and connects the workstation. 2. The GXDP-700 IP address is where one or more IP addresses are entered if an address needs to be modified. 3. In the Friendly Name field, enter name of the workstation(s), if necessary. 4. The Autorelease timeout, seconds is the length of time(in seconds) that the GXDP-700 device remains reserved and unused by a workstation before it releases the GXDP-700 device so that it can be used by another workstation. The default setting is 300 seconds. This can be changed by entering a new value. Click Apply button to make settings effective. 5. Click the Release Control button (See Image 1) to release the device and click the Take Control button (See Image 2) to reserve the GXDP-700 device. Workstation 1 Workstation 2 Image 3 If the GXDP-700 device is reserved by another workstation the Take Control/Release Control button(s) are not displayed (See Image 3). 6. The GXDP-700 device can be reserved in advance from another workstation. 7. Repeat the above process for all the other workstations on the network. 8. 13 Chapter 4 Recommended GxPicture Configuration After installing the GxPicture software driver, the following configuration is recommended: Right click the GXDP-700 Ready icon to open the GXDP-700 Setup windows. WARNING GxPicture configuration settings are factory set to display optimal image quality. You may change these settings to suit your personal preference but be careful not to degrade the image quality. You may select Default to return all settings back to the factory settings if image quality is degraded. 15 Recommended GxPicture Configuration Brightness: Adjusts image luminance (Range: -50 to 50). Contrast: Adjusts color or light of the image (Range: 0 to 100). Optimizer: Check Optimizer to enable an advanced imaging filter to adjust image parameters, then click Setup to open the Optimizer Filter Setup dialog box, which specifies values for Detail, Intensity, and Noise Reduction. Use the sliders to adjust individual values, or click Default to return all settings to the default values. Detail: Adjusts image sharpness (Range: 0 to 100). Intensity: Adjusts image intensity (Range: 0 to 100). Noise Reduction: Adjusts image graininess (Range: 0 to 100). Equalize: Used to show or to highlight morphological structures in the image. Check this to enhance the image contrast by maximizing the use of the available grayscale. Despeckle: Check this to reduce the typical grainy or speckled appearance of x-ray images. NOTE: Reducing the speckled appearance results in a small loss in resolution. Mirror: Check this to flip the image across the vertical axis. LL: Indicates the grayscale value used to improve image quality and contrast (Range: 0 to 30). UL: Indicates the grayscale value used to improve image quality and contrast (Range: 70 to 100).
