3 Release Type and Definition Dell Wyse Device Manager (WDM) software is the premier enterprise solution for managing Dell Wyse thin and zero clients simply, remotely, and securely. It enables IT professionals to easily organize, upgrade, control, and support thousands of Windows Embedded, Windows CE, Linux, Wyse ThinOS, Xenith, and P-Class devices across any LAN, WAN, or wireless network. The software uses industry standard communication protocols and a componentbased architecture to efficiently manage your network devices. Its intuitive, simple and powerful user interface is built to operate as a standard snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Dell Wyse Device Manager (WDM) includes an easy-touse console that enables you to easily perform all the device management functions that are required to run and maintain your WDM Environment. 4 Supported Platforms for GUI WDM Enterprise Edition customers can install the GUI on one or more computers. The WDM GUI can be installed on the following operating systems: Windows 2003 R2 SP2 (only for upgrades from WDM 4.9.1) Windows 2008 SP2 32-bit Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Windows 2012 Standard Windows 2012 Standard R2 Windows 7 (32 bit) Windows 7 (64 bit) Supported Databases The following databases can be installed on the Database Server: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 - English Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express English (default, built-in option in Installer) Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise (32 -bit). Note: If you plan on using Windows 2012 server as Software Repository, we recommend using FTP instead of HTTP or HTTPS due to an intermittent imaging issue. Installing WDM 5.0 MR1.1 This hotfix can be installed on: WDM 5.0 International Release Build MR1 HF Pre-installation Check List You cannot uninstall the hotfix after you install it. Prior to starting the hotfix installation, ensure that all scheduled packages have completed and the DDC (Default Device Configuration, for WDM Enterprise customers) feature is disabled. This is required to ensure that no devicespecific updates are pending while a WDM upgrade is in progress. Make sure that all the WDM GUI instances that are running locally or remotely are closed prior to starting the upgrade. WDM 5.0 MR1.1 HF Enterprise Page 4 of 8

5 Prior to installing the hotfix make sure that all local and remote connections to the WDM server are closed and all WDM GUI sessions are closed when the hotfix installation is in progress. Steps to Install WDM 5.0 MR1.1 If you are having a distributed setup where all the WDM components are installed on separate systems, then make sure the hotfix is installed on the following components: WDM Server One or more WDM GUI Consoles One or more Remote Software Repositories WDM Master Software Repository You do not need to install the hotfix on the WDM Database as this gets updated when you run the hotfix on the WDM Server. To install the hotfix: 1) Extract the hotfix installer file in a suitable folder location. 2) Run the Setup.exe file from the folder. 3) After the installation completes, confirm the installation by launching the WDM Console, right-clicking on the WyseDeviceManager node under Console Root, and selecting About Dell Wyse Device Manager option. Note: You cannot run the Hotfix Installer from a Network Shared folder. What s New in WDM 5.0 MR1.1 This section provides details on the new features or fixes added in this release. Merlin uses Bash in X86_64 initrd64.pxe (WE8S) and uinitrd (ARM) Both versions are updated with latest patch to be compatible with shellshock fix. Bash has been updated to version 4.3 and updated 29 latest patches till Oct Merlin is update for X86_64 & ARM What is Shellshock? Shellshock is the name given to vulnerabilities in Bash, a shell program distributed on Linux, Unix, and OS X systems. Because these vulnerabilities are relatively easy to exploit and the impact to systems is high, NIST has rated this a 10/10 in severity. A flaw was found in the way Bash evaluated certain specially crafted environment variables. An attacker may use an arbitrary command to disclose sensitive system information, or to write files elsewhere on the server s file system (similar to a file upload vulnerability). Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands in the context of the vulnerable HTTP CGI WDM 5.0 MR1.1 HF Enterprise Page 5 of 8

6 server. Used in conjunction with other attacks, an attacker may be able to completely compromise an unprotected system. 7 WDM Encryption Information TIR Classification Data The following criteria are used when assigning a TIR classification: TIR Classification Description 1 TIR is of a very serious nature and has a probability of affecting > 1% of customers. A TIR with this classification must be fixed before Production Release. 2 TIR has less potential impact on customer, (probability of affecting < 1% of customers), but is still of a serious nature. A TIR with this classification must be fixed before Production Release. 3 TIR is of a moderately serious nature but a work-around exists. TIR has a probability of affecting > 1% of customers. A TIR with this classification should be considered strongly when making Production Release determination. 4 TIR is of a minor nature, typically involving compatibility issues, and has a probability of affecting < 1% of customers. A TIR with this classification should be considered when making Production Release determination. 5 TIR is of a very minor nature, typically involving cosmetic problems. These TIRs typically do not have to be fixed before Production Release. The following criteria are used to determine which TIR s must be fixed before the firmware can be considered for release to production: TIR s with a classification of 1 or 2 must be fixed before the firmware can be considered for release to production. On a case by case basis, the TIR Review Board may choose to override the requirement to fix individual TIRs which would otherwise block release to production of a designated build. TIR s with a classification of 3, 4, or 5 will be fixed if the following conditions are true: WDM 5.0 MR1.1 HF Enterprise Page 7 of 8

8 o o The TIR can be fixed with a minimal potential for adversely affecting the firmware. There is adequate space remaining in the firmware to accommodate the fix. TIR s with a classification 3, 4, or 5 need not be fixed if the following conditions are true: o o o The TIR is a carry-over from a previously released product, and no reports from the field have been received. The TIR is a carry-over from a previously released product, or exists in the current release of this product, and a fix could potentially cause backward compatibility problems.
