5 1. Scope 1. Scope This guide provides troubleshooting procedures for the SPiiPlusSC 2.30 when installed on the host PC. 2. Troubleshooting Procedures 2.1 Output in UMD "freezes" after displaying "Checking license.ok" Problem Description After clicking START SPIIPLUSSC in the UMD, the last line that can be seen in the Controller Output window is "Checking license OK". Possible Cause 1 The SPiiPlusSC IP address is not in the same subnet as the Virtual Network Adapter IP address. For example, SPiiPlusSC has the following IP address: , while the Virtual Network Adapter has the following IP address: Set a static IP address for Virtual Network Adapter. The IP address should be in the same subnet, for example: Possible Cause 2 For Windows 7 only: after installing a new driver for the network adapter or after a network bridge was set and then deleted, NetBIOS might disable communication with SPiiPlusSC. 5

6 2. Troubleshooting Procedures Run the DisableNetBIOS utility that fixes this issue (part of the installation). You must restart the computer after running the utility. Default path on X64 platform: C:\Program Files\ACS Motion Control\SPiiPlusSC\x64\DisableNetBIOS_x64.exe Default path on X86 platform: C:\Program Files\ACS Motion Control\SPiiPlusSC\x86\DisableNetBIOS_x86.exe Possible Cause 3 An expired password. Reset the SPiiPlusSC user password as follows: 1. Select Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users. 2. Right-click spiiplussc, select set password, and type the same password that appears in the user mode driver. 3. Right-click spiiplussc, select properties, and check the Password never expires option. 6

2. Troubleshooting Procedures 2.2 Communication with SPiiPlusSC is periodically lost Problem Description SPiiPlusSC starts and communication is established from the MMI Application Studio.

7 2. Troubleshooting Procedures 2.2 Communication with SPiiPlusSC is periodically lost Problem Description SPiiPlusSC starts and communication is established from the MMI Application Studio. However, after a few seconds communication is lost. Possible Cause There is an additional SPiiPlusSC Controller in the same network (LAN) with the same MAC Address. MAC Addresses must be unique within the same network. Change the MAC Address of the SPiiPlusSC Controller in the User Mode Driver\SPiiPlusSC tab. 7

Possible Cause Windows power management option Put computer to sleep is checked. This means that after several minutes, Windows enters sleep mode and SPiiPlusSC disconnects.

The MMI Application Studio connects to SPiiPlusSC from another computer (can be via bridge or point to point), but after a few minutes, communication is lost. Possible Cause Windows power management option Put computer to sleep is checked. This means that after several minutes, Windows enters sleep mode and SPiiPlusSC disconnects. Possible Cause In Windows 7 and Windows 8, for some operations, the user mode driver must be executed as "Administrator. Open User Mode Driver directory (by default located at C:\Program Files\ACS Motion Control\SPiiPlusSC\User Mode Driver). 3. Right-click the file ACSCRV.exe and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. 4. Run SPiiPlusSC. You my be required to reboot the PC (see Section 2.5, The output in the UMD ends up with the line Reboot is required.. ). 2.5 The output in the UMD ends up with the line Reboot is required.. Problem Description When attempting to run SPiiPlusSC, the output in the UMD ends up with the line Reboot is required... Possible Cause After certain operations, such as memory configuration (UMD output will show the line Reboot is required to update Memory-Configuration ), the PC should be rebooted. Reboot the PC then run SPiiPlusSC. 9
