3 This cookbook was created as a step-by-step guide for customers to get started with TSM for VE quickly and to hopefully eliminate confusion caused by the current product documentation. It is not meant to cover every aspect of the product but only to get the customer up and running as quickly as possible. The document assumes that the customer will use the vcenter Plug-in as well as the configuration wizard to configure the TSM for VE environment. The installation also assumes that all TSM for VE components are installed on the vstorage Backup Server. 3

4 Installation Step Summary This is a summary of the steps which will be accomplished in this document 1. Verify Prerequisites 2. Install the TSM Backup-Archive Client software 3. Install the TSM for VE software 4. Use the vcenter Plug-in to run the Configuration Wizard 5. Configure the TSM Backup-Archive Client 6. Complete and validate the datamover in the vcenter Plug-in 4

6 TCP/IP Port Requirements Before beginning installation, please verify that the following ports are open on the vstorage Backup Server and not blocked by a firewall. TSM for VE ports Standard TSM ports

7 TSM Server Requirements Ensure that there is an available Policy Domain and Storage Pool set up to hold the TSM for VE backups. 7

8 Requirements when using a physical vstorage Backup Server If your vstorage Backup Server is a physical machine and you plan to use the SAN transport method, you must use the diskpart utility on the vstorage Backup Server to disable automount and set the SAN policy to OnlineALL. C:\>diskpart DISKPART> automount disable DISKPART> automount scrub DISKPART> san policy OnlineAll DISKPART> exit To use the SAN transport method, the vstorage Backup Server must also have SAN access to every LUN that comprises the Vmware environment. 8

9 Requirements when using a virtual vstorage Backup Server If your vstorage Backup Server is a virtual machine and you plan to use the hotadd transport method, you must use the diskpart utility on the vstorage Backup Server to set the SAN policy to OnlineALL. C:\>diskpart DISKPART> san policy OnlineAll DISKPART> exit To use the SAN transport method, the vstorage Backup Server must also have SAN access to every LUN that comprises the Vmware environment. 9

15 Do not configure TSM Backup-Archive Client yet. The TSM nodes required for the configuration will be created by the vcenter Plug-in. We will return to the client configuration after installing the TSM for VE product and running the Configuration Wizard in the Plug-in. 15

29 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in Launching the Plug-in for the first time shows a critical error but this is OK. Click the Launch Configuration Wizard box. 29

31 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in Enter the required information to connect to your TSM server Enter the DNS name or IP address for the TSM Server. Modify the TSM Server port number if required. The default is Enter a TSM server Admin ID and Password. Check the box to save the ID and password. Click Next. 31

32 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in TDP for VMware requires several nodes to be defined on the TSM server. The configuration wizard will create the nodes. This screen gives the option to assign a common prefix to these nodes as well as to select a TSM policy domain. Note: The wizard will automatically place an underscore between what you type here and the rest of the node name. Typing an underscore here results in two underscores as in the following screens. It is not a requirement. It is shown here for informational purposes. Verify the Policy domain to be used. Click Next. 32

33 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in Create the vcenter Node in TSM This field will be pre-filled with a node name for the vcenter node in TSM. It consists of the node prefix if specified earlier followed by _VC followed by the vcenter name. In this example it results in the name of MY VCVSPHERE-SRV. Your name will differ. You may modify the name if desired or use the generated default name. Check the Register Node box and enter a password for the new node. The new node will be registered in TSM with the specified password. Click Next. 33

34 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in Create the VMCLI Node This field will be pre-filled with a node name for the VMCLI node in TSM. It consists of the node prefix if specified earlier followed by _VMCLI. In this example it results in the name of MY VMCLI. Your name will differ depending on the prefix you entered. You may modify the name if desired or use the generated default name. Check the Register Node box and enter a password for the new node. The new node will be registered in TSM with the specified password. Click Next. 34

35 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in Select the VMware Datacenters to be managed by the Plug-in. In this example only one datacenter is available and was already selected by default. Click Next. 35

36 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in Create the Datacenter Node and TSM Datamover Node TSM node names for the datacenter and datamover are generated. The datacenter node name consists of the specified prefix followed by an underscore followed by the datacenter name. The datamover node name consists of the datacenter node name with a suffix of _DM. Each of these may be modified by highlighting the line containing the name and then selecting Edit Node Name from the Action pulldown. This example uses the defaults. Click Next. 36

37 Set the TSM node passwords for the Datacenter and Datamover nodes Note that the passwords for each node have not been set yet. To set the password for a node, highlight the line and select Set Password from the Action pulldown. Do NOT click Next until all passwords have been set. 37

44 TDP for VMware vcenter Plug-in The warning is due to the datamover node not yet being validated. Note the Host Address and Port are both unknown. At this point we must complete the TSM Backup-Archive configuration before continuing in the vcenter Plug-in. 44

59 Configuring the TSM Backup-Archive Client The Node Name field should be automatically filled. If not, wait for it to appear before continuing. In the As Node Name field, enter the node name for the datacenter that was created during the plug-in wizard. Click Apply 59

67 Configuring the TSM Backup-Archive Client Go to the C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient folder. Make a copy of the dsm.opt file, appending the datamover node name to the new file name. You should end up with two files. For example: dsm.opt dsm.opt.my Datacenter-1_DM 67

68 Configuring the TSM Backup-Archive Client Edit the new file and remove the ASNODENAME line. Save and exit from the file. Do not remove the line from the dsm.opt file. Delete this line 68

69 Configuring the TSM Backup-Archive Client Start the TSM Backup-Archive Client GUI. From the Utilities pulldown, select the Setup Wizard. 69

70 Configuring the TSM Backup-Archive Client Check the boxes to configure the TSM Web Client and the TSM Client Scheduler. The vcenter plug-in communicates with the vstorage Backup Server via the TSM Web Client ( TSM Client Acceptor service). Click Next 70
