1 McAfee Install Instructions: Windows Vista (Student Computers) By using these instructions, you are agreeing to abide by Furman s software license agreement and all University computing policies. If you have any questions please contact the Help Desk at These instructions are for student machines running Windows Vista. If you are faculty/staff installing on a Furman or personal computer do not use these instructions. Faculty/staff Furman owned and personal computers have separate instructions. *Uninstall ALL antivirus software before you begin the install process. * 1. Start by downloading the two McAfee install components to your desktop. DO NOT RUN THESE COMPONENTS ONLY DOWNLOAD THEM. a. Management Agent (You will be prompted to authenticate in order to download this file. Type your FirstClass username and password in the blank to continue. ) b. Antivirus Application (You will be prompted to authenticate in order to download this file. Type your FirstClass username and password in the blank to continue. ) 2. To begin, right click Installfirst.zip and choose Extract All. (Installfirst.zip was downloaded in step 1a.)

2 3. A screen will appear asking where you want to place the extracted files. By default, it should extract to the same location as McAfee.zip. Make sure Show extracted files when complete is checked. 4. Once the file has extracted it will pop up a new window with the folder, MngAgent. Open the MngAgent folder.

If you get this window, select Run to continue. 7.

3 5. After you open the folder, right click the file FramePkg and select Run as administrator. 6. Depending on how your Windows firewall is configured, you may get this security warning. If you get this window, select Run to continue. 7. As the management agent installs, you will notice a blinking minimized program on the Windows task bar. 4 launch the install window. 8. Click Show me the message to bring up the install window. 9. Your machine will now show this install window indicating the agent was successfully installed. Click Ok on this window and click the Return Now option that appears above this window.

5 10. You are now ready to install the Antivirus component. Open Installsecond.zip that you downloaded in step 1b. 11. When Installsecond.zip opens, you will see Setup. Double click Setup to launch the install. 12. Depending on how your Windows firewall is configured, you may get this security warning. If you get this window, select Run to continue. 13. It will take a few minutes for the setup to begin.

6 14. Click Next to start the installation. 15. In order to continue you must accept the license agreement. Choose perpetual from the license expiry type and select I accept the terms in the license agreement.

7 16. Leave typical selected and press Next to continue. 17. Keep standard protection selected and press next to continue.

8 18. McAfee is now ready to install. Press Install to begin. 19. It may take a few minutes for McAfee to install.

9 20. Once the installation has completed, McAfee will give you a successful installation confirmation screen. Check the box Update now and UNCHECK the box Run On Demand Scan. 21. After the McAfee update has finished, you need to restart your computer.
