4 1. Advantages of EPC net EPC net represents the latest development in EPC Flexible Publishing. EPC net is available both online and offline. All the functions available in EPC Flexible Publishing have been fully integrated into EPC net. The modern user interface applying standard Windows rules serves to significantly improve user guidance and navigation. 5 1. Advantages of EPC net 1.1. Modern user interface using standard Windows rules Users will immediately note the modern user interface and the simple navigation using standard Windows rules. You can open functions using the icons (a) or the menu bar (b). Tooltips are provided to explain icon functions (c). Moving the mouse pointer over an icon causes the tooltip to appear with a description of the icon's function. The combined pull-down menus (d) with input fields are available in EPC net for simple navigation within the catalogs/groups/subgroups. You can use your mouse or keyboard to operate EPC net. Most of the keyboard shortcuts used in EPC Flexible Publishing are also used in EPC net. 5

6 1. Advantages of EPC net 1.2. Help for the EPC net user in any situation EPC net comes with a modern online Help system to provide comprehensive user assistance. The Help notes include information on icon functions, describe the concept and purpose of the various windows and provide step by step instructions for many procedures. The various Help topics are connected by hyperlinks. The navigation bar makes it easy to move between Help topics. "Parts identification Step by step" is recommended for experienced users. Every situation is described here in individual steps, for example, from entering identification numbers to transferring part numbers to the shopping list. The Help notes can be opened in one of the following ways in EPC net: "Opening the Help notes using the "Display Help" icon The main window (a) and almost every window (b) contains the "Display Help" icon. When opening the Help notes by clicking on the icon, the section pertaining to the current window will be opened. Further Help topics can be accessed with the links or the navigation bar. Opening Help notes from the menu bar When opening the Help notes from the menu bar, a general Help starting page will appear. Here, users can choose between the various Help topics. Further Help topics can be accessed by using the links or the navigation bar. 6

The EPC net window is subdivided into the following sections: Picture The picture has been supplemented with different zoom functions, and the picture can be shown in a separate window using the icon. Parts list All the part numbers for the entire subgroup are shown in the parts list. Footnotes and code information (passenger cars), SA/component information (commercial vehicles) and construction kit information (bus) can be displayed via links in a separate window. 7

8 1. Advantages of EPC net 1.3. Reduced number of windows Shopping list The contents of the shopping list (e.g. quantity) can be changed directly in the individual columns. One important new feature is the "Show part context" function. When you reopen a saved shopping list you can click on the part designation in the form of a mouse-sensitive blue link to extract the part context directly from the shopping list. This saves you the trouble of reentering the vehicle data and the group/subgroup. List overview The "List overview" can help the EPC net users with shopping list administration. Saved shopping lists and a "temporary shopping list" can be used at the same time. The icon can be used to create, show, delete, copy and print shopping lists. The active area of the EPC net window is marked with a red frame. You can change the size of the individual EPC net window areas via the respective dividing lines. Double-clicking on the dividing line between the picture and the parts list causes the picture to be arranged above the parts list. The and icons can be used to show/hide individual areas of the EPC net window and to individually change the column widths as required. 8

9 1. Advantages of EPC net 1.4. Useful functions History The "History" is shown in a pull-down menu. Clicking on the pull-down menu shows a list of the last items entered in the input field. Clicking on the desired entry sets the vehicle data. The entries in "History" are also available in WIS/ASRA net. Quick start You can perform a Quick start by entering an "Identification number" in the input field. This option allows you to enter the vehicle data and group/subgroup together divided by periods. The system will then display the corresponding picture and parts list. 9

Useful functions Pull-down menus Pull-down menus facilitate the convenient use of lists, such as the directories for model designations, major assemblies, groups and subgroups. The pull-down menus have a filter that reduces the number of entries in the list as the user types in the input field. Icons/Menu bar Functions such as datacard, data filter, etc., can be activated either by using the corresponding icons or by selecting the functions from the menu bar. Most of the keyboard shortcuts used in EPC Flexible Publishing are also used in EPC net. 10

11 1. Advantages of EPC net 1.4. Useful functions Making modifications in the shopping list You can change quantities directly in the shopping list's "Quantity" column. ES1 codes and ES2 codes can be entered directly in the shopping list. You can enter remarks about the part designation in the "Designation/description" column. The part designation is shown as a mouse-sensitive blue link in the shopping list. Clicking on the mouse-sensitive blue link shows the part context. Print The "Print" function has been greatly simplified. The individual areas of EPC net (picture, parts list, shopping list) can be printed out. Notes Clicking on the icon allows you to create "Notes for picture" or "Notes for part number". F6 All After performing one of the following options, all the part numbers of the entire subgroup are displayed in the parts list: After selecting a subgroup, even if the parts in the subgroup are spread across several pictures. After clicking "Deselect all item numbers" in the picture. After clicking "Show all parts" in the parts list. This function corresponds to the "F6 - All" function in EPC Flexible Publishing. 11

Same structure and layout for the Help notes. Identical system operation and the same user feedback procedures. Users can provide feedback concerning the content, software, etc. Clicking on the "Write feedback" icon opens a window where the user can quickly and easily send a feedback message by or fax to the responsible Market Performance Center (MPC) or Logistics Center (LC). 14

19 2. Advantages of WIS/ASRA net 2.3. Optimized "Hit list" and "Document view" The function of the "Hit list" and the "Document view" has been optimized. The documents in the hit list are arranged in a tree structure (a). The "external links" of a document can be selected in the hit list tree structure or in the document view. The Document view contains a number of separate document panels (b). The document panels can be used to go directly to various parts of the document (pictures, operation steps, tightening torques, etc.). The links to reference documents are color coded to differentiate between "external links" and "internal links". The "Context check for reference documents" causes external links that do not match the selected vehicle data to be shown in gray type. The "Context check for reference documents" can be set in the Setup window in the "Operation" panel. 19

Access to the latest available documents The "Modified/New" function known from WIS/ASRA now also includes the option to include the "latest documents" when conducting literature research. Certain technical requirements must be fulfilled in order to access the latest documents: Online server operation via Internet or intranet The required settings must be made in the Setup window The user ID for this function must be active Latest, new and modified documents are given a special status (a) in the hit list. Latest documents Provision of incremental daily updates is possible (special license required). The status marker indicates that the document has been modified following the last publication deadline and is newer than the current WIS/ASRA release. New document The document is new and appears for the first time in WIS/ASRA net. Modified documents The document has been changed since the last WIS/ASRA net publication. 20

WIS/ASRA net provides a number of different search options for conducting document research The following search options are available in WIS/ASRA net: The standard search The standard search uses the vehicle data specified in the "Infobox 1" panel and the groups and information types selected in the "Infobox 2" panel. You can start a standard search in the "Infobox 2" or "Documents" panel by clicking on the icon. More search options The other available search options are found together in a single panel. These further search options allow the user to search using the table of contents, by entering an operation number or document title, or by typing in a term for a full-text search. To use these search options, go to the "More search options" panel and start your search by clicking on the icon. 21

This allows each user to set up WIS/ASRA net to suit their individual requirements. Setup is used to make the following basic settings: Selection of the document and dialog languages Operation of the hit list and the document view window Printer settings Unit for mileage for ASSYST Operation of ARSA net WIS/ASRA net users should check to make sure that their Setup selections match their personal requirements. This is the only way to ensure that the available functions are used in the most effective manner possible. 24
