7 CHAPTER 1 Read Me First FactoryTalk Historian SE is a scalable and integrated solution. It redefines the options for manufacturers who want to maximize their ability to collect and analyze process data. Use FactoryTalk Historian to capture data across your enterprise while serving the data to plant applications. This allows for fast and reliable data capture at the controller level and at high speeds and low intervals. FactoryTalk Historian SE provides the capability to collect, store, analyze, and visualize data using a powerful engine and a set of reporting tolls such as time-series trends, bar charts, piecharts, pareto and tabular trends, and an easy method of generating reports using Microsoft Excel. It also uses compressed storage data algorithms to contain a vast amount of data in a small format. You can retrieve the data quickly over a short or long time span. FactoryTalk Historian SE is closely integrated with the following Rockwell Automation s FactoryTalk Services Platform and Applications. FactoryTalk LiveData (FTLD): A direct data interface to FactoryTalk LiveData delivers natively FTLD data directly to Historian without requiring intermediate interfaces and standards such as OPC. FactoryTalk Directory: FactoryTalk Historian uses FactoryTalk Directory to look up data points for configuring points to historize. The directory is also used for autodiscovering controller data sources and tags in the initial configuration process. FactoryTalk Security: By integrating FactoryTalk Historian with FactoryTalk Security, all user and user groups can be maintained centrally, and a single sign-on is fully supported. FactoryTalk Activation: FactoryTalk Historian is activated by Rockwell Automation's central licensing system based on the FactoryTalk Activation Server. FactoryTalk Diagnostics: Because of FactoryTalk Historian's close integration with FactoryTalk Diagnostics, all system and diagnostics messages from FactoryTalk Historian are centrally stored and maintained in the FactoryTalk central Diagnostics database. FactoryTalk Audit: All FactoryTalk Historian server auditing messages are stored and available in the FactoryTalk central Audit database. FactoryTalk View SE Trending: FactoryTalk View Supervisory Edition natively trends data from FactoryTalk Historian. Organization This book contains the following additional chapters: 1

17 CHAPTER 3 Activation FactoryTalk Activation provides a secure, software-based system for activating some Rockwell Software products and managing software activation files. FactoryTalk Activation does not require a physical "master disk" or any physical media; activation files are generated and distributed electronically. Some Rockwell Software products are activated by activation files, generated by Rockwell Automation, and distributed over the Internet. Different products use different activation schemes. Some products allow multiple activations to be managed by a FactoryTalk Activation Server. FactoryTalk Activation software is included as part of the FactoryTalk Historian installation process. Activating the Server Before using the Historian server, you must first run the Activation tool, which can be found in Programs > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk Activation > FactoryTalk Activation Tool. This opens the Activation Wizard which will guide through the activation process by collecting machine information and connecting to the Rockwell Automation Activation website. This process generates an activation file that is read by the Activation Server. See FactoryTalk Activation Help for more information. FactoryTalk Historian Server checks the activation files each time it is started and every fifteen minutes thereafter. If no valid activation is found when the server is started, there is a seven day grace period during which the server will start as if normal and collect data, and an error entry will be entered into FactoryTalk Diagnostics. If the seven day grace period expires and the server failed to locate a valid activation file, the server will go into a special mode. The server will continue to collect data and allow reading of current data, but the server will not allow the creation of new data points or the reading of the archive. If there are multiple activation files for the Historian server, the count will be aggregated. The Historian server will use this count to enforce the number of point creation. An activation file can be added or removed from the FactoryTalk Activation server. To take effect, the FactoryTalk Activation server must be restarted. During the FactoryTalk Historian server startup, license counting will be re-calculated. When an activation file(s) is added, the FactoryTalk Historian server will periodically poll the FactoryTalk Activation server. When it detects a new activation file, the license count will be recalculated. The FactoryTalk Historian server will support only concurrent activation. 11

18 FactoryTalk Historian SE Installation and Configuration Guide The FactoryTalk Historian server will also allow you to allocate a third-party license. See Historian Server Properties on page 24 for more information on third-party licenses. Adding a New License File If you have received a new license file to add to the existing license file, you can do one of the following to add the license file: stop pilicmgr and the pibasess subsystem and then re-start them. When restarting, you must restart pilicmgr first. wait for 17 minutes to get the updated license. 12

19 CHAPTER 4 Configuring FactoryTalk Historian SE This chapter deals with configuring a new FactoryTalk Historian server using the LiveData interface. For advanced configuration, such as a server to server configuration, see the FactoryTalk Historian System Management Tools User Guide. This chapter addresses the following topics: Default Configuration on page 13 Users and Groups on page 13 Creating and Configuring a New Historian Server on page 13 Adding Points for Data Collection to an Existing Server on page 15 Adding Individual Points to a Server on page 21 Editing Discovery Rules on page 21 Defining Discovery Rules on page 23 Historian Server Properties on page 24 Default Configuration During the installation process, the FactoryTalk Historian System is pre-configured with default settings to get you up and running quickly. This new server can be accessed in the FactoryTalk Services Platform explorer. The default setup creates data collection interface (LiveData) for the server and automatically discovers Historian points in the devices and servers in the plant model, defining the points for which historical data will be collected. Additional points can be added using the FactoryTalk Tag browser. You can also add extra data collection interfaces for load balancing purposes. Users and Groups The default configuration automatically creates secure user groups for the FactoryTalk Historian System. To gain access to the system, create or edit data points, or read data from the server using a client program such as System Management Tools (SMT), FactoryTalk Historian ProcessBook or FactoryTalk View SE, a user must belong to at least one of these groups. For more information on adding or editing users, see the FactoryTalk Historian FTSP and Add-On Guide. Check or uncheck the Active box for each rule to decide whether to use it during discovery. Select a rule and click [Edit] to change an existing rule. The Define Discovery Rule dialog is launched. (For more information on editing rules, see Defining Discovery Rules on page 23.) This button is only enabled when a rule is selected in the list. Click [New] to create a new rule. The Define Discovery Rule dialog is launched. (For more information on creating rules, see Defining Discovery Rules on page 23.) When the dialog returns with a new rule, it will be added at the end of the list, and the list will scroll to show it and select it by default. Select a rule and click [Delete] to delete a rule. This button is only enabled when a rule is selected in the list. After confirmation, the selected rule is deleted. Click [Save] to write to the entire XML file. Click [Cancel] to close this dialog without saving any changes. If there are no unsaved changes, this button says [Close] instead. It changes to [Cancel] as soon as any changes are made. If it says [Close], it closes the editor. If it says [Cancel], the user is prompted with a confirmation dialog to save the file before the editor closes. 22

29 4 Configuring FactoryTalk Historian SE Defining Discovery Rules The Define Discovery Rule dialog provides a structured entry mechanism for defining a new rule or editing an existing one. It supports a subset of the full XML schema and helps the user define rules correctly. The Define Discovery Rule dialog has the following sections: From: Choose from the possible sources of historical data. The choice of source makes changes to the in other drop-downs menus.
