Chapter 1. Business Process Manager Industry Packs Introduction An oeriew of the IBM Business Process Manager Industry Packs and the underlying IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) foundation is proided in this section. The Business Process Manager Industry Packs include specific packs for the Banking, Healthcare, and Telecom domains that can be used to create BPM Solutions. Current State of Enterprise IT Ecosystem Across enterprises, there has been a strong momentum for deployment of business solutions while aoiding the replacement of existing assets. Business Process Management (BPM) and serice-oriented architecture (SOA) are the primary themes underlying most of these enterprise initiaties. Howeer, there are some difficulties that are associated with the deployment of such industry solutions applications. During the last decade, large and mid-size enterprises hae inested millions of dollars to automate their business processes. These inestments hae focused on arious business applications, ranging from core transaction processing to Customer Relationship Management (CRM). With the adancements in telecommunication infrastructure, it has also been possible for an enterprise to connect with a dierse set of stakeholders in its ecosystems, such as customers, distributors, or suppliers. Enterprises hae strien to use this new interconnected world to drie down operational costs, increase efficiencies, and proide faster responses to arious stakeholders. Howeer, it has not been an easy task. In the search to automate most parts of business processes, enterprises created a huge store of information assets sering unique needs. These assets sered unique audiences lines of businesses, processes, serices, roles, regions, modes of access, and so on. This has led to the creation of what is called as an Information Technology (IT) hairball in the enterprise ecosystem. This IT hairball has also led to maintenance challenges that are typically rooted in automation that hae too many connections throughout the back-end system of the organization. The creation of support requirements and many existing embedded systems produces rigid processes that make incremental changes difficult. IBM 2007, 2011 IBM 2006,

Figure 1. Current State of Enterprise IT Ecosystem Business scenarios hae also undergone a dramatic change during the last decade. The business pressures are the same, but the speed of achieing results has increased rapidly whether it is the launch of new and innoatie products, customized offerings for niche markets, or een shortening the change cycles. This means the rate at which business processes need to change now is much higher, thus pushing the operational side of the business to be highly agile and dynamic. IT has become the core component of business operations, and therefore it is expected to meet these business challenges despite complex processes and systems. IT also faces a proprietary applications issue that is making it difficult to interoperate across the ecosystem. Also, more than 50% of the budget is deoted to maintenance costs, which stifles innoation. Gien this context, enterprises hae found BPM-based solutions proide both the flexibility and responsieness that these enterprises need to better use their IT inestments. To maximize business agility and to aoid implementing broad processes through an indiidual application, business leaders today want to use flexible, modular, and prebuilt components that create a more dynamic IT enironment. BPM solutions bring this ision into reality. IBM proides a strong technology platform to support the deelopment of BPM solutions using SOA as a foundation architecture. SOA and BPM are key principles and methodologies behind the IBM technology platform for BPM solutions. SOA is a business-drien IT architectural approach that supports integrating the business as linked, repeatable business tasks, or serices. BPM is a discipline that combines software capabilities and business expertise to accelerate process improement and promote business innoation. To gain additional benefit and alue from SOA, enterprises are combining the principles of BPM with the flexibility proided by SOA to moe their leels of innoation and operational excellence higher. The foundational components of BPM solutions are composed of modeling and simulation, business actiity monitoring, rules and process execution, content-centric processing, and prebuilt industry content. 2 IBM Business Process Manager Banking Pack ersion 7.5: Installation Guide

Many of the organizations that hae adopted SOA and BPM together are maximizing those inestments by aligning their business intent and IT execution using dynamic business processes. These dynamic business processes can be deliered across multiple constituents, channels, and serice leels. IBM Business Process Manager Suite The IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) Suite contains key functions to control and manage business processes across their life cycles, and emphasizes business user inolement and collaboration for multiple roles within an organization. The IBM Business Process Manager deliers dynamic BPM capabilities to assemble and manage composite business applications. It includes components that help enterprises implement BPM solutions. The IBM Business Process Manager is aailable in the following three ersions: IBM Business Process Manager Express IBM Business Process Manager Standard IBM Business Process Manager Adanced IBM Business Process Manager Express and IBM Business Process Manager Standard proide you with powerful business process modeling, simulation, execution, analysis, and reporting features to help you optimize the performance of your business processes. To create an adanced BPM solution, you need to use the following products along with the IBM Business Process Manager Standard. IBM Integration Designer IBM Integration Designer integrates data and applications to create technical solutions for complex business processes. IBM Process Serer IBM Process Serer is a high-performance business engine that helps you form processes to meet business goals. It proides the ability to deploy standards-based business integration applications in a serice-oriented architecture (SOA), which takes eeryday business applications and breaks them down into indiidual business functions and processes, rendering them as serices. IBM Business Monitor IBM Business Monitor is a comprehensie business actiity monitoring (BAM) software that proides an up-to-date iew of your business performance. It also proides certain predictions so that action can be taken before problems occur. IBM Business Process Manager proides an end-to-end platform for managing, changing, and optimizing business processes. It proides the design time tools and runtime enironment to help you build more flexible and responsie BPM solutions. These solutions proide process automation functionalities that can streamline business actiities and reduce redundancies. As a result, these operational efficiencies can help reduce cycle times and bring products to the marketplace much faster and at lower costs. These solutions are used to conert insight into actions by proiding real-time isibility and analytics that help drie smarter decisions and actions. These solutions can help organizations adapt and respond dynamically to changes faster and with fewer IT resources. Chapter 1. Business Process Manager Industry Packs Introduction 3

Improing Time-to-Value for Business Process Management Solutions In a Business Process Management (BPM) solution project, operational capabilities are exposed and abstracted from many different Information Technology (IT) assets into units of different functions called serices. These assets can be reused across the enterprise, increasing the deployment speed of IT solutions and thus reducing IT maintenance costs. Enterprises that decide to deelop BPM solutions face the following challenges: Lack of a consistent framework to build BPM solutions that can be easily extended to meet the changing business needs Duplicate assets tend to eole within an organization for multiple products, processes, channels, roles, and regions due to absence of a framework Long analysis-and-design cycles spent in industry-specific tasks such as business process modeling, and serice specifications Higher deelopment costs, risks, and time when new BPM solutions are deeloped from scratch Leads to rip-and-replace of existing applications because of proprietary domain models and interfaces Neer-ending custom integration and higher maintenance costs like monolithic or custom applications that use proprietary definitions Industry content that is pre-tested and pre-certified on serice-oriented architecture (SOA) and BPM technology platforms is proided to fill this gap by accelerating the deliery of BPM solutions. IBM Business Process Manager Industry Packs IBM Business Process Manager Industry Packs is a set of prebuilt, industry-specific assets for the IBM Business Process Manager Express, Standard, and Adanced editions. The BPM Industry Packs integrate seamlessly with the IBM BPM components and proide a ariety of assets that help accelerate and enhance BPM solution deliery. The BPM Industry Packs is also extensible and open for configuration and customization based on the key business needs of the organization. BPM solutions based on the BPM Industry Packs can help enterprises to better understand, automate, and optimize their processes, support changing business needs, and increase their competitie edge. The BPM Industry Packs are pre-tested and pre-certified on the IBM BPM platform to enable consumability and proide ready-to-use industry-specific assets. BPM Industry Packs proide a set of design time and deelopment time assets that help jump-start the deliery of industry-specific BPM solutions. These packs are not packaged applications that can be deployed off-the-shelf to sole a specific business problem. Rather, these are prebuilt assets that can be reused for multiple lines of businesses, regions, processes, and serices in a gien industry ertical or its subset. Enterprises adopt industry standards to ensure consistency and encourage reuse; howeer, consuming a standard in a particular solution is often a challenge. BPM Industry Packs address this challenge by proiding IBM BPM assets that can be used to assemble solutions based upon standards. The BPM Industry Packs assets are deried from industry standard definitions and IBM best practices and help customers realize the benefits of consistency and reuse. 4 IBM Business Process Manager Banking Pack ersion 7.5: Installation Guide

The BPM Industry Packs also proide the required discipline that is needed to proide consistent multiple projects with a common architecture and methodology. Their architecture and methodology make it easier to extend BPM solutions based on the dynamic business needs. They also ensure goernance across the life cycle of BPM solutions. Some key architecture guidelines that frame the design and architecture of BPM Industry Packs are gien below: Goerning architecture to interoperate methods, tools, and assets The architecture is based on the BPM methodology and the serice-oriented architecture (SOA) methodology, that is, Model, Assemble, Deploy, Manage, and Goern. Prebuilt industry content that is primarily deried from subsets of industry standards and industry best practices These industry contents do not define their own unique standards, as they are based on industry standards. Facilitate deliery of IBM BPM solutions across an entire industry segment BPM Industry Packs facilitate assembly of end to end BPM solutions that cross departmental silos and integrate point applications to delier broad alue to the organization. Extensibility to support unique customer needs IBM BPM solutions proide the ability to enterprises (and their business partners) to add their own content or extend the content proided as part of the BPM Industry Packs to meet unique business needs. Benefits of using the BPM Industry Packs approach Facilitates more rapid BPM solution deelopment because of its specific industry participants design. Ensures consistency and reuse for locations, product lines, and processes, because it is optimized for industry standards and best practices. Proides isibility into reuse across the organizational ecosystem due to alignment with top-down decomposition of an industry domain. Helps speed time-to-market by using serice decompositions that ensure consistency and reuse. Helps simplify interoperability by defining the common language to facilitate interoperability between disparate Information Technology (IT) assets. Helps speed time-to-market with prebuilt, often reused, and industry standards-specific common transactional functions. Enables standardized connectiity to disparate applications in the IT ecosystem with prebuilt serices that are based on industry standards. Expands the use within an enterprise, or enhances the security of publishing to a broader partner ecosystem. Enables clients and partners to plug in their SOA assets into predefined serice decompositions. Chapter 1. Business Process Manager Industry Packs Introduction 5
