4 Description About This Guide The purpose of this guide is to provide the information necessary to configure an interface between EKP and GlobalEnglish. Note that before you can use GlobalEnglish with EKP, you will need to obtain a keycode from GlobalEnglish. This is a unique code that identifies a particular GlobalEnglish client for reporting and billing purposes. Audience This guide is intended for use by system administrators and training administrators who wish to communicate information to the learners in a quick, easy manner. 1

5 Global English Integration Global Configuration Add the following line to ekp.properties: course.globalenglish.keycode=<keycode> where <keycode> is the keycode you have obtained from GlobalEnglish. Note If EKP is running, you will need to restart EKP for this change to take effect. Creating the Catalog Entry To create a catalog entry for GlobalEnglish, go to Manage > Catalog Manager > Catalog Editor. In the Catalog Editor, click Create Learning Object icon, enter a Learning ID for the module, and ensure that Online Module is selected in the Learning Type drop-down list. Click Create. One the Module Properties page, enter GlobalEnglish in the Title box. Click the Define Launch Properties link in the left frame, and select GlobalEnglish in the Launch Interface drop-down list. Click Save. Tracking Note that GlobalEnglish does not send progress results to EKP immediately. However, it s possible to configure GlobalEnglish to send progress data to EKP as a batch data transfer, typically daily. You ll need to configure a system password in EKP. To do this, add the following line to ekp.properties: authentication.key=<password> where <password> is your chosen password. You ll then need to supply this password to GlobalEnglish, together with a URL to which the progress data will be sent. The URL will have the following form: 2

6 where <host> is the hostname of your server, and <context-path> is the context path of the EKP application (typically ekp). So, for example, if the hostname of your server is ekp.mysite.com, and the default context path is used, then the URL for batch progress data will be: Note The URLs above use the HTTPS protocol to ensure that the data sent from GlobalEnglish to EKP is confidential. Although it is possible to use HTTP instead of HTTPS, this is not recommended because the data (including the password) might then be visible to other parties. In order to use HTTPS, the EKP server will need to be supplied with an appropriate digital certificate. 3
