4 Introduction VAST s Playback module provides a synchronous playback feature that allows you to simultaneously view up to 16 channels of video footage from a specific point in time. This document is divided into three sections: 1. What is synchronous playback? 2. How to use synchronous playback 3. Why use synchronous playback? AP-SW-14-SynchronousPlayback

5 1. What is synchronous playback? Synchronous playback allows you to view video footage at a specific point of time from multiple cameras simultaneously in VAST. For example, if you wished to view all the video footage shot by several cameras at 10:00 AM, you could use synchronous playback instead of examining the video footage from each camera individually. The second section describes how to use synchronous playback in VAST. AP-SW-14-SynchronousPlayback

6 2. How to use synchronous playback To access the synchronous playback feature, follow these steps: (1) Run VAST Playback. (2) Drag and drop the desired date to the video cells. For example, to view footage from 17 November 2010, you would drag the icon corresponding to footage recorded on that date to the video cells, as shown in the figure below. 7 (3) Select a video cell and drag the slider bar on the timeline to a specific point in time. Then click the synchronous playback button on the quick access bar. In the example shown below, the user has selected footage from an IP8151 and dragged the timeline slider bar to 15:47:27. AP-SW-14-SynchronousPlayback

8 (4) All visible channels will begin to play back synchronously, and the synchronous playback button will be replaced by the non-synchronous playback button. (5) You can move the timeline slider bar left or right to navigate to another point of the time in the video footage, and all video cells will update accordingly. (6) To stop synchronous playback, simply click the non-synchronous playback button. AP-SW-14-SynchronousPlayback

9 (7) If the text No Data appears in a video cell, this means no recorded video exists for the corresponding camera at the specified time. AP-SW-14-SynchronousPlayback

Why use synchronous playback? 3.1 Convenient Synchronous playback allows you to view recorded video footage from multiple cameras at the same point of time simultaneously. 3.2 Time-saving You can simultaneously view the recorded video footage from all relevant cameras at the point when a particular event was triggered, saving the time that would have been required to review recorded files individually. In the synchronous playback mode, simply move the slider bar along the timeline to simultaneously scrub through the video in all cells to any point of time. AP-SW-14-SynchronousPlayback
