1 Published: March 15, 2012 Installation Guide for Migrating ABECAS Insight VERSION or greater For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (Standard or Enterprise Editions only) This includes R2 editions for Windows Server 2008/SQL Server 2008 (64-Bit) Installation Package Argos Subscription and 24/7 Services Subscription Service The Argos Subscription Service is available during regular business hours from 5am to 5pm (Pacific Time) by [1] phone (559) option 5 or (888) option 5, [2] web access along with your Argos supplied User ID and password, and [3] fax (559) Our Software Subscription Service allows our Support Team to provide (1) telephone support, (2) remote connection support, (3) attendance at user meetings, (4) access to Argos support web site, including webinars, training videos and support materials, (5) program updates, (6) program enhancements, (7) version upgrades with conversion support as related to the software and (8) consulting support on server/network upgrades. Server/network and system administrator services are available as a separate service, either as needed or as a subscription service. On-site and non-subscription support is billed at Argos' prevailing rates. 24/7 Support Service Argos offers after hours support on a 24/7 basis either as needed or as a subscription service. This service is available by phone using our standard support lines and selecting option 7. You will be asked to leave a message with a call back number and then your request is immediately passed onto our onduty support technicians who will call you. For as needed callers, the technician will confirm with you that the service being provided will be billed at our prevailing 24/7 rate. Page 1 of 14

3 Installation Before proceeding, please disable the UAC Users Access Control located in the Control Panel under User Accounts set to Never Notify or Disable and disable, if any, Anti-Virus applications. 1. Install the.net Framework 3.5 SP1 and all security updates for the framework to Windows Server Bit. 2. If SQL is not installed on the server, proceed to install from the SQL Server 2008 installation media as a Default instance (Do not install SQL 2005/2008 Express or SQL 2008 R2 Express). If the SQL Server is part of a Workgroup environment, the SQL Services LogOnAs needs to be set to Local System. If the SQL Server is part of a Domain environment, SQL Services LogOnAs needs the domain admin credentials which have read/write rights. 3. Open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and log in as the SA user. Right-Click on the server name and select Facets. 4. Select Surface Area Configuration from the Facet drop down menu. Page 3 of 14

4 5. Select True at ClrIntergrationEnabled, then select OK. 6. Create a folder named AI64 on your C: drive. 7. Add AI64 path to the Environment Variables. Right-click on My Computer and select Advanced system settings. You can also access this information by opening the System applet in the Control Panel. Then select Environment Variables. 5 8. When the Environment Variables dialog is open, highlight the Path variable in the System Variables list box and click the Edit button. 9. Go to the end of the path, add a semicolon then type C:\AI Download the ABECAS Insight 64 Bit Support package from: Unzip the files from this package inside of the AI64 directory. The package includes the following: NTWDBLIB.DLL, MSVCR71.DLL, Argos.SqlXpLib.dll - These file are necessary for the operation of ABECAS Insight. Copy the NTWDBLIB.DLL and MSVCR71.DLL to the C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory. Custom_Script_For_Sql_Server_64bit_PART_1.sql - Script required for installation of the C# assembly and is ran against the SQL master database. (see step #15) Custom_Script_For_Sql_Server_64bit_PART_2.sql - Script required for installation of the C# assembly and is ran against the ABECAS Insight database. (see step #16) Page 5 of 14

Download the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components (X64 Package) from The "SQL Distributed Management Objects SQL-DMO" is necessary for the operation of ABECAS Insight Admin Tools Database Utilities. During the installation with SQLServer2005_BC.msi, select the SQL Distributed Management Objects (SQL DMO) to This feature will be installed on local hard drive. All others are selected This feature will not be available. 12. Transfer ABECAS Insight logins from the original SQL server to the new SQL server. When migrating SQL user s logins from SQL2000 to SQL follow method #2 When migrating SQL users logins from SQL2005 to SQL Install the same version of ABECAS Insight as what is on the original production server. During the installation setup dialogue, you will have the option to install ABECAS Insight to a different drive partition. It is recommended to install it with the most available disk space. After the installation is completed, reboot the server. (See page 9 for instruction on How to install ABECAS Insight ) 14. Migrate ABECAS Insight database from SQL2000/2005 to Open SQL Management Studio on the new server and Restore your backup copy of the database to ABECAS_CS only. DO NOT RESTORE THE ABECAS_SHIP DATABASE. When restoring the ABECAS_CS select Overwrite the existing database from the Options section. To make sure that the database is overwriting, verify that the MDF and LDF contains the correct path in the Restore As section. Page 6 of 14

7 15. Open the SQL Server Management Studio as SA and connect to your local SQL Server. Select File -> Open -> File on the menu or CTRL+O on your keyboard to open a file. Browse to the AI64 folder and select Custom_Script_For_Sql_Server_64bit_PART_1.sql. Click the Execute toolbar button or F5 on your keyboard to run the sql script. Note: This script will run against the MASTER database- DO NOT alter the script so that it runs against another database. The path in the script refers to the C:\AI64 directory. You will have to change this part of the script if you have chosen another location for your AI64 folder which then you will need to edit the environmental variables path (Step #9) 16. Open Custom_Script_For_Sql_Server_64bit_PART_2.sql and change your current database to ABECAS_CS, or other ABECAS Insight databases you may have. You must run this script once in every ABECAS Insight database on your SQL Server and NOT for the ABECAS_SHIP database. Click the Execute toolbar button or F5 on your keyboard to run the script. You must follow these steps in order to ensure that the ABECAS Insight Server will function properly. In addition, you must perform steps 15 and 16 after any ABECAS Insight update, as the ABECAS Insight setup program does not yet fully support 64 Bit installation. Also, users must not be logged into Insight while running the two.sql scripts. Page 7 of 14

8 17. Launch the UpdateDB.exe utility from ABECASCS\Scripts\Database directory a. Log in using the SA credentials b. Select Actions then Select Database c. Select the Insight database, then select Start This process will take a while to complete. Upon completion, the UpdateDB utility will close automatically. 18. If your new SQL Server does not require running Windows Firewall, then you may turn it off. If you are utilizing the Windows Firewall on the new SQL Server, open TCP 1433, 8891 and 8892 ports (Inbound and Outbound connections). Should you have any issues connecting to ABECAS Insight from a client s workstation, RF device or Task Agent system, turn off the Windows Firewall on the SQL Server. 19. Reboot the server. 20. Log into ABECAS Insight to test the application. ** It is recommended that you now configure the Microsoft SQL Server to back up ABECAS Insight databases along with the SQL system databases on a regular basis. This can be done by using the SQL Server Maintenance Plan or a 3 rd party backup application. In all cases, your ABECAS Insight database back up should be verified for integrality and that you have a Disaster Recovery Plan in place. Page 8 of 14

9 How to install ABECAS Insight Insert your ABECAS Insight CD or double-click on the setup.exe. Make sure that you also have your license key during the installation. The next dialog displays the contents of the server installation readme file, AbecasServerReadMe.txt. You should review the contents of the file and click Next. The License Information dialog requires you to enter your ABECAS Insight license information. You must obtain the license and key from Argos Software. After the first successful installation, the license information will be retained. When the correct license and key values are displayed, click Next. Page 9 of 14

10 The Choose Destination Location dialog allows you to select Typical, or Custom mode for the installation. Typical, which is only visible during a new installation of ABECAS Insight, installs a predefined set of features. Custom allows you to select the features that you wish to install. This dialog also allows you to change the hard drive where ABECAS Insight will be installed. You should install the product on the partition or drive with the most available space. Click Next to proceed to the Select Components dialog if you chose Custom mode, or to the Security Information dialog if you chose Typical. For the purposes of this document, we will be installing in Local Mode. Provide the SA password and click Next. Page 10 of 14

11 Place a check mark at the first and third option. Click Next when ready to proceed. X X Highlight Server and click the Details button. (Do not uncheck Server or Modules in the component list) Uncheck Scheduler. Do the same for Clients Support Files. Page 11 of 14

12 The final dialog, titled Start Installation, is displayed. You can select several options for placing shortcuts to the ABECAS Insight program on the desktop or in the quick launch area of the taskbar. Click Start to begin the installation process. You are then prompted to install the ABECAS Insight client on the workstations. Click Finish and allow the server to reboot. For Version 8.2 users and greater: Please note that you will need to download the Documentation folder from ftp.abecas.com and place it to the ABECASCS directory on the client workstation. The Documentation folder contains all of the PDF files for the ABECAS Insight Help > Documentation. NOTE: If installing the ABECAS Insight Client onto a Windows 7 workstation, you will need to add the NTWDBLIB.dll and MSVCR71.dll to the C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory. Please look at Step #10 on page 5. Page 12 of 14

13 How to install ABECAS Insight Client on a Windows Remote Desktop Session Host server (a.k.a Terminal Server) To install the ABECAS Insight Client on an Remote Desktop Session Host server (a.k.a Terminal Server), the RD Session Host server must first be switched into a special install mode called RD-Install to ensure that the application will be able to run in a multi-user environment. After ABECAS Insight Client has been installed on the RD Session Host server, you must switch the server back into execution mode (RD-Execute) before ABECAS Insight users can remotely connect to server. Step 1: Disable the UAC Users Access Control located in the Control Panel under User Accounts and set to Never Notify or Disable. Step 2: Copy the NTWDBLIB.DLL and MSVCR71.DLL from the AI64 directory as mentioned on Step #10 on page 5 and paste them to the C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory. Step 3: Open up a command prompt and enter change user /install then Enter Step 4: Disable (if any) Anti-Virus application Step 5: Navigate to the SQL/Insight server and open the shared directory ABSETUP and run the ClientSetup.exe Step 6: Select Yes to all defaults. Step 7: Open up ABECAS Insight and log in using the SQL SA credentials. After the application loads, exit out to close ABECAS Insight. Step 8: Go back to the command prompt and enter change user /execute then Enter Step 9: Enable (if any) Anti-Virus application Allow TCP ports 8891 and 8892 to be open from the Windows Firewall. Now ABECAS Insight Client is ready to be launched. Page 13 of 14

Step 7: Open up ABECAS Insight v9 and log in using the SQL SA credentials. After the application loads, exit out to close ABECAS Insight v9. Step 8: Go back to the command prompt and enter change user /execute then Enter Step 9: Enable (if any) Anti-Virus application Now ABECAS Insight.NET is ready to be launched. Page 14 of 14
