8 ABOUT THIS DOCUMENTATION

Installation Overview 2 Clarity 6 is a corporate performance management solution that enables administrators to create corporate standardized reports and data entry templates based on existing company data. These templates and reports are then distributed to a user community for enterprisewide financial processes, such as budgeting, planning, forecasting, and corporate reporting. Clarity leverages the power of OLAP and relational databases. The environment provides a budgeting and reporting solution featuring an easy-to-use front end interface for a financebased end user community. Note: For support information on third party OLAP and relational database server applications, such as Hyperion Essbase and Microsoft SQL Server, please consult the documentation provided by the software manufacturer. Clarity documentation does not detail aspects of these components beyond the minimal definitions required to perform specific Clarity configuration tasks. This document is intended to help guide you through the installation and configuration of Clarity. It contains an overview of the high-level architecture, prerequisites, installation steps, and troubleshooting information. It is organized in sequential order, and therefore each section should be read and followed in succession to ensure that the Clarity 6 installation is a successful one. This section describes the following: Clarity 6 Network Topology The Clarity 6 Installation Process Server, Application, and Option Considerations 9

10 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW Clarity 6 Network Topology..... CLARITY 6 NETWORK TOPOLOGY End users access Clarity via a web browser interface that ultimately communicates with the OLAP and relational database environments. Clarity uses a series of server processes in order to co-ordinate communication from an end user client to the database environment. Clarity is comprised of the following server processes: The Clarity Web Server The Clarity Application Server The OLAP Database Server The Relational Database Server Other components include administrator and end user client machines, and existing ERP systems. 11

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW Clarity 6 Network Topology The following diagrams illustrate Clarity s high-level technical architecture: 12

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW Clarity 6 Network Topology..... Existing Data Sources Existing data sources encompass all existing ERP systems (human resource systems, general ledgers, etc.) Information is extracted from these sources and transferred to the Clarity database environment (which consists of the OLAP and Relational Database Servers). Typically, transaction or salary data is stored within the relational database, and account-level data is loaded to the OLAP database. At the end of the planning cycle, plan data can be pushed back to the source systems if desired. (For example, the system can load next year s plan back into the general ledger.) The Clarity Database Environment Information from existing data sources is allocated between the OLAP and Relational Database Servers. This information is accessed through the web interface, using the Application Server and Web Server to communicate between the various components. Clarity Web Server End user requests are serviced by the Clarity Web Server, which then passes the request to the Application Server for communication to the appropriate database. The Web Server hosts the Web Service via Internet Information Services (IIS). End users access this service to perform budgeting, reporting, and data modeling functions. End User Client End users access the system via Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) by entering the URL of the Clarity Web Service (hosted by the Web Server). All changes and requests made by end users are relayed back to the Clarity database environment via the Web and Application Servers. Administrator Client Administrator clients communicate with the Web Server in the same manner as end user clients. However, most administrator clients also communicate directly with the OLAP and Relational Database Servers, as well as the file directories of the Web and Application Servers. This additional access enables administrators to create templates and reports, maintain and update the database environment, and perform other administrative and maintenance tasks and procedures. 13

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW The Clarity 6 Installation Process..... THE CLARITY 6 INSTALLATION PROCESS The Clarity 6 installation CD provides you with all of the required elements to successfully install and implement the Clarity 6 solution. Clarity 6 consists of a series of server and client installations. The following installations compose the Clarity 6 software solution: Server Installations Clarity Server Clarity Visualizer Server Clarity Consolidations Client Installations Clarity Template Builder Clarity Visualizer Report Builder Clarity Cube Manager 15

16 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW The Clarity 6 Installation Process

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW Server and Application Considerations..... SERVER AND APPLICATION CONSIDERATIONS The Clarity 6 Servers (Web Server, Application Server, and OLAP and Relational Database Servers) are all mandatory installation components. That is, each server must be installed in order for Clarity 6 to function properly. Additionally, the instance must contain at least one Clarity client and/or administrator machine so end users can access the Clarity 6 functionality. Clarity 6 Server applications (Clarity Server, Visualizer Server and Consolidations) are installed on the web server. Clarity 6 Client applications (Template Builder, Cube Manager, and Visualizer Report Builder) are installed on client and administrator machines, and are not mandatory to the general functionality of the Clarity 6 Servers. However, it is strongly recommended that these applications are installed for template and report building (Clarity Template Builder), Visualizer report building (Visualizer Report Builder) and database maintenance (Cube Manager). 17

After installation, it enables an administrator to use either a newly defined database structure, or to utilize an existing database. It is important to note that the Cube Manager installation does not build a database, nor configure user security automatically. A relational database has to be defined on the actual server, and users must be added along with permissions on the server. Minimum SQL Server Database Permissions Required for Cube Manager Users Although users can be created with additional permissions, at minimum users must be assigned the following database roles in the SQL server database that Cube Manager utilizes: db_datareader db_datawriter db_ddladmin 149

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration..... REPORT BOOKS CONFIGURATION This section outlines the configuration details for the Report Books feature in the following areas: Clarity Web Server Clarity Application Server Custom VBS Functions CPM Queued Components Read the appropriate section when configuring Report Books, or read through the entire document if you are configuring a new installation of the Report Books. Note: Report Books uses the Clarity Scheduler, which may require further configuration after installation. Refer to Clarity Scheduler Configuration on page -177 for details on configuring settings. Clarity Web Server There are three components on the Clarity Web Server that may need to be modified to ensure the Report Books works correctly: The config.xml file - refer to the section Report Book - XML Configuration (Web Server) in this guide. The Books folder structure where the Report Books module resides. The Debug folder where the debug XML files are generated whenever Report Books are run. The definitions folder where Report Books module XML definition files are created. 169

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration The static docs folder where static Excel files must be stored. Note: The contents of the Books folder should not be modified by end users. The above folders must have Read/Write security permissions for IUSR_SERVERNAME if IIS settings allow for Anonymous Access, or it must have Read/Write security permissions for the actual users or groups if IIS is using Integrated Windows Authentication. Internet Information Services (IIS) - refer to this topic in the Clarity Installation Guide. Clarity Application Server There are six components on the Clarity Web Server that may need to be modified to ensure the Report Books module works correctly: The config.xml file - refer to the section Report Book - XML Configuration (Application Server) in this guide. Microsoft Excel The Report Books module requires Microsoft Excel version 2000 or higher to be installed and properly configured on the machine where the Clarity Application Server resides. The Report Books identity user (the user account that the CPMQueuedComponents COM+ application is set to impersonate) must have Excel Access and Launch permissions. These settings can be made by running the" dcomcnfg" utility from the Start > Run line. 170

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration..... Additionally, Excel must have the Trust access to Visual Basic Projects option enabled in order to permit the running of macros as Clarity reports may contain formatting macros. PDF Driver The Report Books module uses the Win2PDF driver through Excel to generate PDF files. If the machine on which the Application Server is installed does not contain this driver, contact your administrator or Support at Clarity Systems. The folder structure should contain the following folders: The ReportBooks folder structure which stores individually generated reports that can be viewed in the View My Reports screen. An entry in the Reportbook relational table is created for each individual report file. The ReportBooks folder contains four subfolders: Attachment folder stores temporary Excel or PDF files at run time. These files are used as distribution attachments and are automatically deleted once a Report Book has been successfully generated. 171

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration Export folder is used to store the temporary PDF files viewed when users open templates or reports in PDF format via the Clarity toolbox command. Queue folder is used to store temporary queue XML files during run time. These files are automatically deleted once a Report Book has been successfully generated. Temp folder stores temporary XML and Excel files that are generated when Before Build and After Build Event functions are executed. COM+ Configurations The COM+ Timeout property value is measured in seconds and by default it is set to 60. The value should be increased to 3600 (60 minutes) or set to 0 which indicates that COM+ should never time out. 172

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration..... Large Report Books may take longer than sixty seconds to generate, which will cause COM+ to time out if the value has not been increased. The Report Books module then re-submits the same Report Book queue, resulting in duplication. IIS SMTP - refer to the section Other Configurations in this guide. Custom VBS Functions This section provides guidelines on how to run custom VBS functions in the Report Books module. VBScript Coding Guidelines Typically, Clarity custom functions are located in the Web\Includes\custom.vbs file. As VBScript code is executed on the Clarity Application Server using MSScriptControl objects as opposed to normally running on the Web Server inside the Internet Explorer application, some the following compatibility issues may arise: The "Option Explicit" statement can only appear once in the code base. 173

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration Unsafe Code The following are code examples that will fail if executed in Report Books: Alert "Hello World" Window.status "Loading template " Top.cpmWindowHandler.activeWindow Any other CLARITY global variables and ASP objects For this reason a variable named g_runinreportbooks is declared and initialized to true if the code is run in Report Books. The above code statements can be remedied as follows: Or If Not g_runinreportbooks Then Alert "Hello World" If Not g_runinreportbooks Then If top.cpmwindowhandler.activewindow.isloaded = True Then Top.cpmWindowHandler.activeWindow.close Top.window.status = "Done" End If End If End If Web\config.xml All specified VBS files are merged into a single VBScript base code file when a Report Book is submitted into a queue from the Run Report Books screen. The config.xml that resides in the Web folder must contain the fully qualified path to the VBS files that contain custom functions in the following format: <config> <reportbook> <customvbsfiles> <file>. \Clarity Systems\CPM6.0\Web\Includes\common.vbs</file> </customvbsfiles> </reportbook>... </config> 174

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration..... Add/Remove CPMQueuedComponents The CMReportBooksQC.dll is responsible for the following tasks: Generating Report Books ( _ReportBook interface queued) Opening individual templates and reports in PDF format ( _Export interface non-queued) This Dynamically Linked Library (DLL) file must be stored under the...\com folder, as it looks for the config.xml file in the same location. The CPMQueuedComponents Application's Identity user must be set up to impersonate a local or domain administrator user. The administrator's user name and password must be specified on the Identity tab of the component's Properties window. CPMQueuedComponents must have Queued and Listen properties selected on Queuing tab. 175

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION Report Books Configuration Follow steps 1-5 to remove the old component and steps 6-9 to register the latest version of the component: 1. 191 POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION End User Client Configuration..... END USER CLIENT CONFIGURATION The ActiveX Control In order for end users to access Clarity 6 through the web, an ActiveX control must be installed on the client machine. The Clarity ActiveX control is called CPMActiveX.CBWX, and can be installed automatically or manually, provided the user has appropriate permissions on the machine. Automatic Download By default, Clarity 6 is configured to allow automatic download of the control. The control is packaged as a CAB file (CPMActiveX.CAB) and is placed in the Web folder under the CPM install folder. The config.xml file, also in the Web folder, contains a reference to the classid and version of the control, and a relative path to the CAB file. When a user accesses Clarity 6, it detects whether the specified classid and version exists on the user's workstation. If it does not, the user will be informed, and if the user's browser settings allow it, the user will be able to download the control through the browser. Once the control is installed successfully, Clarity 6 will use it without further notifications to the user. Manual Download In some cases, clients wish to disallow automatic downloading of the control. This can be done either by removing/renaming the CPMActiveX.CAB file, or by removing the path to the CAB file in config.xml. If this is done, the ActiveX control needs to be installed on each workstation by some other method. Method 1 The following files should be extracted from the CAB file, and either installed manually on the workstation, or "pushed down" from the server using software designed for this purpose. CPMActiveX.OCX XCeedBen.dll XCeedSco.dll XceedCry.dll These files need to be copied to the workstation, then registered using the regsvr32 command. The files do not need to go into a specific location on the workstation. Method 2 You can also run an msi installer on each client machine. It is located on the Installation CD in the ClarityActiveX folder. Note: The msi installer can be run silently (without user selection) by using the /quiet option. 183

POST-INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION End User Client Configuration ActiveX XML Configuration The attributes for the ActiveX Control are found in the \web\config.xml file.
