6 Install & Configuration considerations New Install Options: Ø Ready to Run! Provides a quick way to get up and running in minutes without any additional configuration or 3rd party software. Informix installed & configured and Content Store database Installs and configures Apache Directory Server as Authentication source. No Gateway component installed. Only One Ready to Run Install per machine. Ø Expand Used to expand the existing install It installs and adds a dispatcher to the initial setup. The Initial install must be up and running to use this option. Uses the same URL as of the initial install( name>:<port#>/bi) Ø Custom Choose the components that you want to install. Application Tier, Data tier, Optional Gateway (Kerberos with IIS, 3rd party portal integration, report/dashboard requirements for images/logos). 6

7 Install & Configuration Considerations - Cont. WebSphere Liberty Profile is used as default Application Server ( Applies to all types of installations). Default Maximum memory for WebSphere Liberty Profile is set to 4096 in Cognos configuration (Applies to all types of installations). The setup will automatically configure the hostname in the URIs (Applies to all types of installations). JDBC Drivers to be placed in <install location>/drivers/ Location of Data Files has to be configured as network location in case of distributed setups. The default location is <install location>/data/datafiles/ 7

9 Cognos Analytics Portal : Welcome Page Welcome Page on previous versions 9 New sliding panels for each section. Helps to retain current context Allows easy navigation with minimal complexity

10 Cognos Analytics Portal - Search Improved Search Functionality with No Administration required. Will perform search on Reports Dashboards Uploaded Files Folders Shortcuts Automatic Indexing on name, description and model metadata. Option to save search. Filter out the objects users want to view. 10

11 Cognos Analytics Portal My Content My Content is equivalent to My Folders of previous version. Provides options to Filter content, switch views and creating new folders. 11

12 Cognos Analytics Portal Team Content Team content is equivalent to Public Folders of previous version. Enables view/modify the properties of the objects shown. 12

13 Cognos Analytics Portal - Recent Will enable users to view the objects that were recently accessed by user. User can perform various actions from this screen. 13

14 Cognos Analytics Portal - New Provides options to create New: Report Dashboard Data Modules. NewàReport will provide the capabilities of Report studio and Workspace advanced. NewàDashboard will enable users to create dashboards. NewàData Module will enable users to create data models to access and shape the data from data servers and files that are uploaded. 14

15 Cognos Analytics Portal Upload Files This option will enable users to upload data files on to Cognos. Files get stored at the location set for Location of directory for data files: in ManageàConfiguration. 15

16 Cognos Analytics Portal - Notifications Notifications help you stay on top of important data. When you Subscribe to a report or report view, you are notified every time your subscription is delivered. If you view saved output and you want to know when there's a new version of the report, you can tap the Notify me button. 16

17 Cognos Analytics Portal - Manage Enables users to perform the few Administration tasks that a user need in day to day activities. 17

19 Administration: Limited Accounts: Will enable user to create Folders & Groups. Administrator can add a User, Role and group to the Cognos Namespace from External Authentication source Administrator can Manage/Create users in default LDAP provided with Ready to Run install. Administrator can add a User, Role and group to the Cognos Namespace from default cognosex namespace provided with ready to run install option(applicable to Ready to Run type of install). 19

20 Administration: Limited - Cont. Activities: View & manage Schedules. Use My credentials takes ownership. View upcoming, current and past schedules. 20

21 Administration: Limited - Cont. Content: Perform Backup and Restore. Does not include My content. Does not support partial deployments. 21

22 Administration: Limited - Cont. Data Servers: Will enable users to Create and manage JDBC data sources. The Name of the Data server should be unique. To show up existing data sources under manageàdata sources tab, Enable web based modelling for the data sources that are created in Administration will. CQM, Powercube connections can be created only from Administration console. 22

23 Administration: Limited - Cont. Configuration: Enables user to Manage system settings. View data file location and properties. Size limits apply to uploads and snapshots. In distributed environments, it is mandatory to have network location as directory for data files. Environment Type is for Licensing/Audit purpose only and no difference in functionality. 23

26 Full Interactivity In Reports Fully Interactive mode enables report user to filter, group, pivot and perform other interactions which will enable user explore the data that is more meaningful to them. Setting up the Report parameter Run with full interactivity to Yes will enable the context sensitive toolbars in report outputs. Consider a sample report as below: 26

30 Limited and Full Interactive Reports Ø Reports can run in limited interactivity or full interactivity mode. Ø Limited interactivity : Run with full interactivity = No Presents Cognos BI 10 behavior. Drill up/down, drill through, JavaScript, prompt API work. Reports open in same viewer as Cognos BI 10. Ø Full interactivity : Run with full interactivity = Yes Presents Cognos Analytics 11 behavior. Drill up/down, toolbars (sort, group, filter, style, etc.) works. Drill through, prompt API, Drill down on Lists will not work. JavaScript gets stripped out when report is run. Reports open in same viewer as Cognos BI

31 Limited and Full Interactive Reports cont. Ø New reports created on Cognos Analytics 11 are by default fully interactive (Run with full interactivity default to Yes). Ø Existing Cognos 10 reports by default will run in limited interactivity mode (Run with full interactivity default to No) on Cognos Analytics 11. Ø The author can change the interactivity behavior to Fully Interactive or Limited Interactive. 31

33 Legacy Studio Switch Ø Cognos Analytics Ready to run install will have legacy switch turned off by default. Ø Cognos Analytics custom install will have legacy switch turned on by default. Ø Used to expose mature functionality, primarily for existing customers.
