Desigo Insight Management station What is Desigo Insight? Desigo Insight is the BACnet management station of the Desigo building automation and control system that works with the automation stations Desigo PX, Desigo TRA (Total Room Automation) and BACnet third-party. What is the aim of "Getting Started"? The aim of this booklet is to introduce you quickly to your new Desigo Insight management station. We intend that you should use this booklet together with a real Desigo system. You may use your own system, as the functions described here are valid for any Desigo V6.0 system. We also intend that you should start on page 1 and work through the booklet without skipping any part. It should take about one hour. Afterwards, you will probably not need this booklet again; more comprehensive information is available in the Desigo Insight V6.0 User s guide. 4 / 34

Starting your management station Switch on your management station (PC). If the Desigo Insight taskbar is not already visible (see picture below) start Desigo Insight by selecting: Start > Programs > Desigo Insight Vx.x > Desigo Insight Desigo Insight software is now running, and, even though no-one is logged- in, the management station is able to receive alarms and log data from your plant. The taskbar of Desigo Insight Taskbar after starting Desigo Insight Display / Function Connect and disconnect sites Lock / Logoff / Shutdown System Info: OK Open Online Help Connection display Alarm display Alarm display Description Desigo Insight Menu with various functions. Shows the logged-in user. Connect sites; Shows information about sites. Locking user / Log off user / Shutdown Desigo Insight. Shows information about the computer or software faults. Opens the online help; User s guide also available. Shows information about connected sites. Shows high/medium/low level alarms. Shows categories of fire alarms. 5 / 34

Logging in Click any button in the taskbar to log in. The following dialog box is displayed: Administrator logs in Enter the user name and password supplied by your representative. Note that the password is case-sensitive! The taskbar now changes, showing the logged-in user. Note that if you leave your management station unattended it goes to a locked status, requiring you to log in again. 6 / 34

The taskbar and Desigo Insight programs The taskbar is always displayed when Desigo Insight is running, allowing you to command your building automation and control system immediately, even if you are operating an equally interesting Windows program. The buttons that are visible depend upon which user is logged-in and the type of Desigo Insight license installed. The most common taskbar applications and their buttons are as follows: Function / application name Connect / Disconnect Description Connect / Disconnect site Plant Viewer Log Viewer Alarm Viewer Trend Viewer Object Viewer Time Scheduler Eco Viewer System Information The graphical interface to your site Displays all event messages, including alarms Displays the state of any abnormal alarm points Displays graphs of dynamic data Displays all data points in your system in list format Allows you to adjust switching times of your plant This information shows the economic status of the plant. Checks if there are any computer or software faults Note The buttons that are displayed depend upon the site license. Additional buttons may also be visible; any Windows application can have a dedicated button on the Desigo Insight taskbar. 7 / 34

What is a "site"? A site is an autonomous, logical unit of a building automation and control system that generally comprises a specific local, functionally and organizationally autonomous space (e.g.: a building or group of buildings). A site comprises one or multiple Desigo PX, BACnet devices (BACnet IP, BACnet LON, or MSTP). Connecting to a site Although Desigo Insight is able to receive alarms and trend data at any time, for operation of the Desigo Insight graphics, known as Plant Viewer you must connect to your site. Connecting in this context means initiating a continuous communications link with the PX automation station network. Alarm and trend data transfer is initiated by the automation stations themselves. To connect, click the connection button in the taskbar; a dialog box similar to the following is displayed: Connection dialog Choose the site. Click button Connect. The site connection is executed. 8 / 34

After connecting, the dialog box should change as shown below: Connected taskbar Your real site may automate the connection steps above, for example by automatically connecting to your site as soon as you log in. Note: BACnet Sites are always connected. 9 / 34

Starting Plant Viewer Plant Viewer is a graphical visualization of your system. It can only run if you are connected to site. Start it by clicking the button identified in the table above. At the top of the Plant Viewer window, a navigation bar is displayed specific to the Plant Viewer interface. The buttons work as shown below. Button Usage Button Usage Go back a page Select page Go forward a page Jump down a page Jump up a page Tile pages horizontally Tile pages vertically Cascade windows Jump to the Top page Display the System page Display the Location page Display Favorite page Print active page Page data snapshot User defined page description List objects in active page Select window Close current page Print setup Close all windows Print preview Project-specific help 10 / 34

Moving around Plant Viewer Plant Viewer pages are usually arranged in a logical sequence. This allows you to follow a predetermined path using the navigation bar forward and backward page buttons. In addition, the standard System (your controls topology) and Top pages can be displayed at any time via their respective buttons. The hierarchical arrangement of your plant pages is displayed by use of the Select page button, and is illustrated below: System Page up Page down Page up Top Page down A typical page hierarchy Information is presented in stages of increasing detail. The Plant Viewer page provides an overall view of the plant as a whole. Rather than text, dynamic symbols indicate the state of all plant elements. If further information about plant elements is available, this is indicated by a graphic frame. Click inside the frame to display the information, which appears in the form of a super genie : 11 / 34

Layers of information If you require more information about the fan, or wish to override the fan state, for example, click the fan's center to display the corresponding super genie. A super genie is a representation of a number of plant details in a single, small dialog box, usually pertaining to a single plant element. For example, switch on the thermoelectric trip of a fan in your plant: an alarm symbol appears by the fan symbol. 12 / 34

To get more information about this alarm, click the alarm bell symbol. More alarm information Since there may be more than one source of an alarm, we have arranged a series of alarm buttons at the top of the alarm super genie. When an alarm button is visible, the corresponding alarm input is active, and you can click the button to display the corresponding information in the alarm super genie. This concept is used in all alarm super genies in your Plant Viewer graphics. 13 / 34

Adjusting plant operation in Plant Viewer Plant Viewer can be used to Override plant states Adjust setpoints Acknowledge and reset alarms Set the alarm limits of a plant item Set a manual value for a physical input or output All these options are made available according to the privileges of the logged-in user. For example, click the supply air temperature sensor in the graphic. Full information from the temperature-sensor genie As usual the data displayed depends upon the privileges of the logged-in user. Adjust the measured temperature (if possible in your plant) and/or the alarm limits and you may trigger an alarm for that sensor. 14 / 34

Example: Overriding a fan You can override most items of plant, provided you have sufficient privileges. In the graphics, click the fan symbol to display the fan genie, and override the fan state as shown below. Remember to release the fan to automatic later, so that it operates normally. The fan operates safely, i.e. safety interlocks are still checked, but it does not respond, for example, to time control signals. 15 / 34

What do Automatic and Manual mean? The automatic state means that the displayed value is under full control of the associated automation station. If not in the automatic state then the plant element has been overridden for some reason. Desigo systems have in fact a number of ways that the normal automatic control state may be overridden. These are generally indicated by the yellow Hand symbol over a plant item. 16 / 34

Alarms Alarms indicate a plant condition that is other than normal; they have a set priority or degree of severity (for example critical ), a set format (see below) and are routed to any combination of receiving devices such as the management station screen or printer. Alarm Acknowledge and Reset We saw earlier how the sources of alarms appear in Plant Viewer. How can you manipulate the alarm status? Alarms generally appear in three forms according to their interaction with the user: Simple Requires no user action Basic Requires acknowledgement Extended Requires acknowledgement and reset Thus only simple and extended alarms require an input from you as the user. If you trigger a frost alarm, a pop-up window something like this is displayed: Alarm pop-up window You can see that this is an extended alarm, because an Acknowledge button is displayed. From the pop-up window you can click the Plant Viewer button and the corresponding part of the graphics are displayed. 17 / 34

From there, click the alarm bell symbol. The following diagram shows how you can interact with the alarm from there. 1 Acknowledge here 2 3 Alarm condition cleared 4 Some alarms also require a reset 18 / 34

Note that you can also acknowledge and reset alarms from any other Desigo Insight management station or operator unit: they all operate in the same way on the same point. Alarms are also given a number representing their degree of severity or priority, where '0' is the highest and '9' the lowest. Alarms produce pop-up windows at the management station in accordance with the system configuration. For example, the system can be configured so that only priority levels 0 and 1 produce a pop-up window. Using Alarm Viewer In the case of multiple alarms occurring simultaneously, you may find it easier to use Alarm Viewer, which presents all points in abnormal states in a tabular format. Click the Alarm Viewer button on the Desigo Insight taskbar (see earlier). You will see a list of all alarm points that are in a state other than normal. You can modify the display format to suit your own preferences: the settings will be recalled the next time you log in: To sort a column: Click the column header button. Click again to toggle the effect. To remove sorting: Click button. 19 / 34

To alter the column order: Click and hold on the column header button, and drag and drop the column to a new position. To specify what data is to be displayed: Note All these methods of altering the display format can be used in all the Desigo Insight tabular displays. 20 / 34

Alarm interactions from Alarm Viewer You can also acknowledge or reset alarms from Alarm Viewer as shown below: Note You cannot reset an alarm if the condition causing the alarm is still active. For example, if an air filter is blocked, the alarm cannot be reset until the filter is replaced. In the Alarm Viewer table, you can select multiple alarms by the usual Windows method (hold down the <Shift> key and left click, or hold down the <Ctrl> key and left click). This allows you to perform multiple acknowledge and reset operations on alarms of the same type and the same state. 21 / 34

Using Log Viewer For Desigo Insight, alarms are actually just one type of event : Status Events User Events System Events Alarms Log Database User User events: Everything you do at the management station Status events: Nominated plant events System events: Management station software events such as site connections, system start-up etc. All events are logged to a single database; you can view the contents of this database using Log Viewer. Open the Log Viewer using the Desigo Insight taskbar button. You can use the same table manipulation commands as described above. Note that the Date and time field refers to the time that the event occurred, not the time that it was received by the management station. For example, if the management station is disconnected (e.g. if a modem connection is used), then alarms will show the time at which they were triggered, not the time of their receipt. The Value column similarly displays the value at the time when the alarm was triggered, not the value at the time of receipt. 22 / 34

Creating graphs with Trend Viewer To create a graph in Trend Viewer you can start by selecting data from in any convenient Desigo Insight application: Plant Viewer Object Viewer Log Viewer Alarm Viewer Right-click the desired plant element (for example, a temperature sensor in Plant Viewer): Send to... Some icons in Plant Viewer present more than one parameter after a right-click (i.e. automation station PX). In such cases use the primary value, i.e. the parameter ending in PrV. Once the Send to... command has been used, the trend application will automatically start to draw a graph using the parameter selected. 23 / 34

Trend highlights Try this on your plant: start a graph of outside air temperature and humidity, and adjust the values (if possible in your plant). Points are added to the display whenever there is a change of value of the data point: if you would prefer points to be added at fixed intervals of time use the pull-down option in the top right of the Trend Viewer dialog box. You can add points to this trend view in the same way as you did to start the graph, using the right-click function on any Desigo Insight point. This trend will run as long as the Desigo Insight management station is operational. It is fully flexible and configured by you. Alternatively, data can be logged at the automation station level, so that it is independent of the management station. This is fixed during engineering, and cannot be altered via the management station. There are many user tools for Trend Viewer; look in the appropriate section of the User's guide. 24 / 34

Time control of your plant Time Scheduler allows you to configure start, stop and other operating modes for your plant according to a basic plan. The plan can then be amended to include holidays and other exceptions to the norm. The time program is stored in the automation station and so once configured does not depend on the management station. Open Time Scheduler using the Desigo Insight taskbar button. Browse to find an example schedule, then drag and drop the weekly schedule to the right as shown: Time Scheduler basics 25 / 34

To modify the times, double-click a period: Adjusting a time period You can use the spin buttons adjacent to the input fields to modify the times (and the associated operating mode). In this way, you can define the time schedule for plant operation. Report Viewer You can use Report Viewer to create reports about the states of the plant manually or automatically (with the Reaction Processor). For example, you can interrogate the data in the system at regular intervals, e.g. weekly, save it as an Excel or CSV file, or, if required, print it in PDF format. 26 / 34

Reaction Processor The Reaction Processor lets you create automatic reports based on a specific time or a data point threshold. The "Write value" function also allows you to influence the plant, e.g. by modifying setpoints. BACnet-integrated third-party products without their own time scheduling function can be controlled with the Reaction Processor time function. 27 / 34

Eco Viewer The innovative energy monitoring functions in Desigo Insight provide real-time displays (online, real-time) and evaluate energy consumption of plants as well as the quality of operations. After the plant is delivered, there is a risk that parts of the plant will be operated in an unfavorable manner, without negatively affecting required Comfort, but in terms of energy consumption and wear and tear of components. Causes of unfavorable operation include : Changes to setpoints Changes to operating times Faulty components Lack of knowledge on the part of personnel Change the use of rooms Manual intervention on field devices (e.g. valve actuators) Plant drift Energy costs Energy monitoring is an absolute must in offers to efficiently plant parts or plants over the entire life cycle. The monitoring available with Desigo Insight, trends the data in a manner that allows the responsible person to initiate near real-time measures against unfavorable plant operation. The function helps lower energy costs in a sustainable manner and increases a plant's business viability. 28 / 34

Standardization Current and future international standards (e.g. EN 15232:2007(E), chapter 7) require the system recording (logging), online monitoring or a step or process; always with the goal in mind of managing a building in an optimum manner. Desigo Insight: Object-oriented system Up to now, we have looked at Desigo Insight from the point of view of specific actions, such as altering a time schedule or dealing with an alarm. Another way of considering your system is to refer to objects, that is, a small control element such as a temperature input. Using such an object as a reference, you can swap between the various Desigo Insight applications. For example, trigger any alarm from your plant; from Alarm Viewer highlight the alarm and right-click. Select Send to... and navigate to Log Viewer with a left-click. All relevant entries in Log Viewer are displayed. From here you can rightclick to switch to Plant Viewer in the same way, for a graphical display of the location of the alarm. 29 / 34

Object Viewer: the technical view of your system You will probably use the applications previously described for most of the operation of your plant. For a comprehensive, text-based list of all the objects in your Desigo Insight system you can use Object Viewer. There are three different views in Object Viewer: Technical View Based on a naming convention used for all control objects User View System View Online View Based on any organizational structure you wish e.g. the layout of your building, the departmental structure etc. Based on the organization of the automation station hardware Based on BACnet objects found on the network Start this by right-clicking (for example on the same alarm object as above) and selecting Send to..." and "Object Viewer": The illustration above shows the Technical View. The views in Object Viewer are highly technical, and show all data points in your system and all of their properties. We do not expect you to need Object Viewer to operate your plant. 30 / 34

System information The Desigo Insight taskbar always shows a System Information icon (see earlier). This is a check on the general health of the Desigo Insight management station, including relevant computer parameters such as hard disk status. If you click this, the details are displayed as follows: If a red cross or yellow exclamation mark is displayed, you can identify the exact source using the System Information browser. You can use this information should it be necessary to contact Siemens for help. 31 / 34

Logging out of Desigo Insight If you leave Desigo Insight unattended for a short time, then it assumes the Locked state: This prevents unauthorized access. If you wish to leave the management station in a safe condition immediately, then you can opt to Log Off: In the Locked state (after selecting Lock) and the Logged out state, the management station continues to accept alarm messages and log Trend data. We therefore recommend that you do not shut down the management station completely, as these tasks would then be suspended. In the case of accidental power interruption, the Desigo Insight software can be configured to start automatically. 32 / 34
