6 HARDWARE OVERVIEW 1. HARDWARE OVERVIEW This NVR has divided all channels into four groups for live display and recording, and videos in each group are recorded to specific hard disks as indicated below. The first two groups have three hard disks to record, and the last two groups have two hard disks to record. If such storage allocation is not sufficient, AVX993, the disk array, could be used to connect to this NVR to expand the storage of each group to five hard disks, as indicated below. 1.1 Front Panel 1) LED indicators Internet LAN Alarm Mini SAS Error The device is connected to Internet. The device is connected to LAN. An alarm event occurs. An external disk array is connected. Any of the adapter, power and fan is abnormal. 2) Power ( ) Press to power on the device; press and hold for 3 seconds to power off the device. 3) Mouse port ( ) Insert a mouse for function operation. 4) USB port ( ) Insert a compatible USB flash drive for video backup. Note: For the compatible list of USB flash drives, please refer to APPENDIX 1 COMPATIBLE USB FLASH DRIVE LIST at page 52. 1

7 HARDWARE OVERVIEW 5) HDD Indicators Check the HDD indicator for each installed hard disk to ensure the hard disks work normally. Color Status Meaning -- No light No hard disk is installed, or the installed hard disk is not detected. Please install a hard disk or replace the installed hard disk, and try again. Green Always on The installed hard disk is detected well. Green Flashing Data reading / writing. Red Always on The installed hard disk is failed. Please replace the installed hard disk, and try again. Red Flashing Data building or recovering. 1.2 Rear Panel 1) HDMI This port is used to connect the monitor, which supports HDMI interface. Note: Direct connection to the monitor, which supports VGA or composite interface, is not supported. Please prepare a converter in advance. 2) INTERNET This port is used to connect your device to Internet. 3) LAN This port is used to connect IP cameras to this device with a hub (if necessary) locally. 4) MINI SAS This port is used to connect to the disk array which supports MINI SAS port, such as AVX993. 5) EXTERNAL I/O Insert the supplied external I/O block, and users are able to connect external devices. 6) DC19.5V Jack Connect the device to power with the regulated adapters. For initial use, the device will be powered on immediately when the adapter is connected. 7) LED indicators for adapters, fans, and power modules There are indicators for FAN, ADAPTER, and power modules (3.3V / 5V / 12V) for users to diagnosis the status of fans, adapters and power modules. When any of the indicators is red, the ERROR indicator on the front panel will turn red to warm the users, and you ll see on the live view. Color Green Red Meaning OK 1. No use. 2. Something's wrong with any of the fans, adapters, or power modules. Please check with your installer or distributor for repair if necessary. 1

8 CONNECTION 2. CONNECTION 2.1 Hard Disk Installation Note: It s necessary to install a hard disk first before firmware upgrade to ensure the upgrade process works properly. Step1: Remove the cover by loosening the left side of the cover s screws HDD HDD2 HDD3 HDD4 HDD5 HDD6 HDD7 HDD8 HDD9 HDD10 HDD2 HDD3 HDD4 HDD5 HDD6 HDD7 HDD8 HDD9 HDD10 Step2: Find the hard disk connector and HDD tray in the device. Press the button of the HDD tray as indicated below and remove it. HDD Tray: Press to remove Step3: Get a compatible hard disk. With the PCB side facing the internal of the HDD tray and the hard disk s connector facing the outside. Then, find the HDD screws supplied in the sales package. Align the hard disk s screw holes with the HDD tray s holes and fasten the screws. HDD 2

9 CONNECTION Step4: Place the HDD tray to the device, and push it to the end till you feel the hard disk is inserted to the hard disk connector. Then, lock the HDD tray as shown below. You ll see 4 different colors of labels on the drive bays. They re corresponding to the drive bays of AVX993 (the disk array), and each color will have five drive bays in total when AVX993 is connected to this NVR. 10 CONNECTION 2.1 Connection Connect a monitor, IP cameras, adapters, a mouse, and other devices necessary to this recorder as illustrated below. Then, power on the whole system and wait till the system initialization is done. Note: When AVX993, the disk array, is connected to this NVR, please power on AVX993 first. Otherwise, the NVR might not detect AVX993 properly. Wait till the HDD indicators turn green. For details, please refer to 1.1 Front Panel at page 1. 4

11 FOR INITIAL USE 3. FOR INITIAL USE This NVR has divided all 64 channels into four groups for live display and recording. To control this NVR, you need to first access the group within which includes the control you want to make. To switch to one of the group: For the first time to power on this device, you might be prompted to: Go through the setup wizard Clear hard disk Change default user name and password 3.1 Setup Wizard The setup wizard is prompted to guide you finishing the most common settings you might need to do. Note: It s okay to skip the wizard. You can configure the following settings later in their respective menus. SETUP WIZARD ENGLISH WELCOME TO THE SETUP WIZARD. PLEASE FOLLOW THE WIZARD TO FINISH BASIC CONFIGURATIONS. SKIP EaZy NEXT Choose EaZy (EaZy Networking) to directly go to the EaZy Networking setting page, and refer to APPENDIX 6 EAZY NETWORKING at page 59 for details. Note: To configure network setup by using EaZy Networking later, please go to QUICK START EaZy. Or select NEXT to go to the next step. SETUP WIZARD PLEASE INPUT THIS MACHINE NAME SKIP PREV NEXT 5

12 FOR INITIAL USE Name the device. If you don t want to name the device, just skip to the next step. Note: To name the device later, please go to SYSTEM SYSTEM INFO. If you don t change the user name and password here, you re not able to go to the next step. This step is compulsory. Note: To change or edit user name and passwords, please go to SYSTEM ACCOUNT. SETUP WIZARD DATE 2015/MAR/05 TIME 14:33:46 FORMAT Y/M/D GMT GMT+08:00 SKIP PREV NEXT Set the date and time. If you don t want to set the date and time now, just skip to the next step. However, it s necessary to keep the date and time right to ensure the accuracy of the recorded data. Note: To set the date and time later, please go to QUICK START TIME SETUP. When the date and time are changed, you ll be prompted to clear the hard disk(s). Select YES to erase the previous recorded data, or there might be data disorder and you wouldn t find the footage you need. For details, please download Note: To enable the DDNS later, please go to ADVANCED CONFIG NETWORK DDNS. 3.2 Clear Hard Disk When this device is powered on, hard disk detection will be on, and you ll be prompted to clear the hard disk(s): CLEAR HDD CLEAR HDD HDD0 YES NO Please choose YES to clear the connected hard disk(s), or this device will not detect hard disks properly for video recording. It might take some time to clear the connected hard disk(s). When it s done, you ll see the remaining hard disk capacity on the top right corner of the screen. Note: It s necessary to clear hard disks in order to format the connected disks to the right format to save video data. The format used for this device can NOT be read directly on a PC. Please do not install the hard disk directly to a PC and try to copy the video data saved in the hard disk. The video data might be impaired. 7

Otherwise, any person could access this device if he knows the default user name and password. If you didn t go through the setting wizard at the first place, you ll be prompted to change the user name and password: WARNING PLEASE BE ADVISED TO MODIFY THE DEFAULT ACCOUNT TO ENSURE YOUR INFORMATION SECUIRTY. MODIFY O REMIND ME LATER O DON T REMIND ME ANYMORE CONFIRM Choose MODIFY to start the change immediately. To change later, right click to show the main menu, and select user name and password of SUPERVISOR. 15 CAMERA SETUP 4. CAMERA SETUP 4.1 Camera IP Configurations by LAN Auto mode is to simplify the complicated network settings within three minutes. The connection mode of the LAN port is AUTO by default. This mode is suitable when the LAN port of the device is connected to a hub. Note: SETTING Path: (ADVANCED CONFIG) NETWORK LAN MODE. Note: For access this recorder remotely with your mobile device or laptop, you need to connect this recorder to Internet. For details, please get the setup manual from the supplied CD or from The device will automatically configure the IP address of a camera connected by LAN if: The connected IP camera is our brand s IP camera. Reset the IP camera to default value (the default IP configuration method of the camera is DHCP). The camera is powered on before the device is powered on. If the device doesn t configure the IP address of your camera automatically as described above, your IP camera might NOT be: Our brand s IP camera. Set to DHCP as its default IP configuration method. To solve this, use our brand s IP camera, and reconfigure its IP address to xx (xx ranges from 11 ~ 253), in the same network segment as the device. a) Move your mouse to the left side of the screen to show the quick bar, and select. You ll see the list of every connected IP camera with its connection status to this device and MAC address. b) Select the IP address which is not used, and select SETUP. 17 USER INTERFACE 5. USER INTERFACE This NVR has divided all 64 channels into four groups for live display and recording. To control this NVR, you need to first access the group within which includes the control you want to make. To switch to one of the group: 5.1 Local Access Connect your USB mouse to one of the USB ports on the front panel, and check if there s a mouse icon ( screen, indicating the USB mouse is detected properly. ) on the Move your mouse to enter the password with the password keypad. The default user name and password are both admin. The status will be changed from (key lock) to (unlock). Note: You may configure four different user levels to have different access privileges in SYSTEM ACCOUNT. For details, please refer to 6.3 User Level Creation at page 15. Click to set timer for record, motion detection, Push Video, buzzer, auto backup, and regular reboot. 12

19 5.2.5 Playback Panel FREQUENTLY-USED FUNCTIONS / / Fast Forward Fast Rewind Play / Pause Stop Slow Playback Previous / Next Hour Quick Search Repeat Backup Increase the speed for fast forward. Increase the speed for fast rewind. Click to play the latest recorded video clip immediately, and click again to pause. In the pause mode, click once to get one frame forward, and click to get one frame rewind. Click to stop the video playback. Click once to get 1/4X speed playback, and click twice to get 1/8X speed playback. Click to jump to the next / previous time interval in an hour, for example, 11:00 ~ 12:00 or 14:00 ~ 15:00, and start playing the earliest event video clip recorded during this whole hour. Click to enter the quick search menu for specific record data search. Click to set point A and point B in a video clip, and the system will play only the specified range in that clip. Click to open the backup menu for video backup. 13

20 REMOTE OPERATION 6. FREQUENTLY-USED FUNCTIONS 6.1 Key Lock / Unlock To lock or unlock local operation, click (unlock) or (lock) on the device status bar to change the status to (lock) or (unlock). To unlock local operation, you ll be prompted to enter the user name and password to access. Note: The default user name and password are both admin, which is the highest user level Note: Different user level has different access privilege for certain functions. For details, please refer to 6.3 User Level Creation at page IP Device Search Note: This function is available only for SUPERVISOR. To know more details, please refer to 6.3 User Level Creation at page 15. Click (IP Search) to start searching IP camera(s) connected in the same network segment as the recorder (i.e xx by default). You ll see the list of every connected IP camera with its connection status to this recorder and MAC address. 21 REMOTE OPERATION To connect to another IP camera, select the unused IP camera from the IP search list, and select CONNECT. Select the channel you want to display the camera images, and click SAVE to start connection. To create different user account for different access privilege, right-click to show the main menu, select (SYSTEM), and select ACCOUNT to enter USER LIST. 23 REMOTE OPERATION 6.4 PTZ Control Note: This function is available only for SUPERVISOR and POWER USER. To know more details, please refer to 6.3 User Level Creation at page 15. In the full view In the split view, click the channel you want to switch to the full screen mode, and click control panel. to show the PTZ Enter Click to confirm your selection / enter the menu. / / Up / Down / Left / / Right / Iris + / Iris - / Zoom in / out max / Zoom in / out Click the arrow keys ( / / / ) to more the camera lens up / down / left /right. Users could also move the camera by simply clicking one point on the screen. This two buttons are designed for the PTZ camera which uses Pelco-D to control. To know the actions after clicking Iris + and Iris -, please refer to the camera s user manual. Click to zoom in on the image by 10X / zoom out on the image to its original size. When (digital zoom in / out) is selected, click to zoom in on the image by 16X / zoom out on the image to its original size digitally. Click to zoom in / out on the image from 1X ~ 10X (Optical zoom). Users could also zoom in / out on the image by simply drawing a square on the screen, and the zoom ratio depends on how large the square is. Zoom in: Draw the square from top left to bottom right. Zoom out: Draw the square from bottom right to left top. When 1X ~ 16X. (digital zoom in / out) is selected, digital zoom in / out is available from / Focus near / far Auto mode Auto tracking Click to adjust the focus of the image. Click to activate the auto function. Before using it, you need to assign a specific function that will be enabled when is clicked. For details, please refer to the user manual of the camera. Click to start auto tracking when your speed dome camera supports this function. Preset point Click to enter the PTZ preset point you want to see. Camera Menu Manual Focus Auto Focus Joystick Config. Click to enter the camera main menu. For details about each camera menu, please refer to its own user manual. This function is used to memorize the focus parameters you ve made after you use / / / to manually adjust the focal length and focus. The next time when you move to the same focal length, the camera will use the parameters as the ones for Auto Focus. Click to automatically adjust the focus of the camera. Click to control the movement of a speed dome camera or a motorized-pan camera. Drag and hold the mouse on the screen to move the camera. You ll see and on the screen. The farther these two icons, the faster the movement. Click to configure the speed for pan, tilt and auto pan of the speed dome camera. 17

27 REMOTE OPERATION 6.7 Video Playback on PC The backup file is the unique video format for security reasons, and you can only use our own player to play. To play video backup on your PC: Step1: Insert the USB flash drive with recorded data into your PC. Note: The supported PC operating systems are Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista & Windows XP. Step2: Find the program PLAYER.EXE in the USB flash drive, and double-click it to install. Note: PLAYER.EXE can also be downloaded from Step3: Run the program, VideoPlayer_NVR, and browse to where you save the recorded data. Step4: Select the file you want to start video playback Convert the file format to AVI To convert the video file format to AVI, click AVI from the playback panel to start file conversion. Note: The recorded audio (if any) will be removed when the file format is converted to AVI. Note: If the backup video includes data for multiple channels, click to a specific channel for this function to work properly. 21

Note: The options selectable for I.P.S. depends on the camera you re intended to connect. d) BITRATE (kbps): Select how much data to process per unit of time for each channel. The higher the value, the better the video quality. e) BITRATE CONTROL: Configure the upper bit rate limit for the selected channel if necessary. VBR - When the bit rate of the camera exceeds the value you set, the video fluency may be affected; CBR - When the bit rate of the camera exceeds the value you set, the image quality may be affected. f) G.O.V.: Group of VOPs is used to configure the length of G.O.V. The greater of the value, the less the bandwidth for transmission, and the poorer the image quality. 22

The recorder will reboot after reset. 4) REMOTE CONTROL ID This function is used when you have two or more devices which are controlled by only one remote controller. You might arrange several backup events in the schedule if you want, and the backup starts when a compatible USB flash drive is inserted to this recorder. The default value for CH1 is 81, and the default value for CH2 is 82 etc. If you want to change the port number to other value, the range is from 1 ~ b) Select ON in ENABLE PORT FORWARD. For remote access, you need to configure network settings separately for each group to get the IP address of each group. In other words, one IP address, one group. Note: For network setup please get the setup manual from the supplied CD or from Web Browser You can view the images or operate this device with a web browser, for example, Microsoft Internet Explorer. Note: The supported PC operation systems are Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista & Windows XP. Note: To use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for remote access, please go to Apple s official website ( to download and install QuickTime first. Step 1: Key in the IP address used by this device in the URL address box, such as , and press Enter. You will be prompted to enter the user name and password to access the device. If the port number this device used is NOT 80, you need to key in the port number additionally. The format is ipaddress:portnum. For example, for the IP address and port No. 888, please key in into the URL address box, and press Enter. Step 2: Enter the user name and password, and click OK. 60 BATTERY REPLACEMENT APPENDIX 3 BATTERY REPLACEMENT The time reset after power failure, for example, caused by a power outage, will cause the disorder of the recorded data, and users may have problems in searching the event clip they want. To keep the device time from resetting, a non-chargeable lithium battery, CR2032, is installed in the device. However, the device time might still get reset when the battery is low or even running out of power. If so, please replace the device battery, CR2032, right away as instructed below. How to replace CR2032 Note: The lithium battery, CR2032, is a non-chargeable battery, and should be purchased separately. Please replace only with the same or equivalent type battery in case of danger. Step1: Stop all recording immediately to prevent the disorder of the recorded data. Then, back up the recorded data if necessary. Step2: Power off the device, and disconnect the power. Step3: Remove the device cover, and find the battery on the mainboard. Step4: Push the release as indicated below to remove the battery. Step5: Get a new battery and install it to its slot on the main board. For Type 1, install it with the side of CR2032 facing up as shown above. For Type 2, install it without the side of CR2032 facing you as shown above. Step6: Replace the cover and connect to power. 65 EAZY NETWORKING APPENDIX 6 EAZY NETWORKING EaZy Networking is a free P2P cloud service to connect AVTECH devices to the Internet automatically by plug-and-play, enabling you to check the live view via your mobile device or laptop at anytime. In most cases, the device is connected via P2P. Connection via the relay server is only applied to some complex environments such as the private IP-based network environment used by a large enterprise. There is no speed limitation of P2P connection. For connection via the relay server, the speed is up to 10FPS@512kbps. To obtain stable transmission, it's recommended to purchase our data plan of 1GB or 7GB. Each device will enclose a 2GB data plan for a free trial. EaZy Networking could be configured via EagleEyes on an ios / android device, or via Internet Explorer. Before using this function, make sure: This device is connected to a switch or router, and the switch or router is ready for Internet connection. The network icon on the top right corner is, not. You have an ios / Android mobile device with EagleEyes installed, or a PC / laptop with Internet Explorer installed. A6.1 Via EagleEyes on ios / Android Device A6.1.1 Setup Step1: Right-click to show the main menu, and select NETWORK WAN. The MAC address will be filled automatically. Fill in the Captcha code manually, and click Apply. Step7: Follow the on-screen instruction to finish the rest of the settings, and see if this device is added successfully to the address book as a cloud device. At the same time, you ll be prompted to confirm if you want to remove the default user name and password. When the default user name and password are removed, you can ONLY use the user name and password of the cloud service to access this recorder locally and remotely. If you forget the user name and password of the cloud service, you could only reset the recorder and do all configurations again. When the default user name and password are kept, other people might be able to access this recorder if they know the default user name and password of this recorder. Confirm if you want to keep the default account to continue, and return to the address book. You ll see the newly-added device in the address with a cloud icon on it. Step8: Click the newly-added device and see if you could access successfully. 61
