Introduction This document is intended for distributors of TRIOS. It describes all steps required to set up a new PC to enable fast and accurate scans with the TRIOS POD systems (cart systems are delivered fully configured). It is mandatory to fulfill all steps in this guide when setting up a new PC. Completing only a subset of the settings will not ensure a well working TRIOS system. Scope of this document This document covers: All scanner versions: TRIOS Standard, TRIOS Color and TRIOS 3 Released software versions: 1.3.x.x and the 1.4.x.x Non released software versions, i.e. temporary daily builds etc., are not covered by this document, as they generally require a different set up. This document is subject to change. Consequently, always check the TRIOS support page for the newest version of this document. The importance of assuring maximum speed for TRIOS The user experience when using TRIOS depends to a very large degree on the processing power of the PC attached. The higher performance PC, the better user experience. Use PCs from 3Shapes list of approved PCs only The effective speed of TRIOS scanning cannot be predicted from reading the specifications sheet of a PC alone, as the spec sheet is merely highlighting a subset of the full characteristics. The only way to get the full picture is to perform a number of actual intraoral scans with the equipment in question. 3Shape has been conducting such tests on a number of candidate PCs and the best of these candidates are placed in the List of approved PCs, to save the distributor and end user the effort. Use the PC for TRIOS ONLY The PC should be used for TRIOS activities ONLY. The PC is an integral part of the complete TRIOS system and should not be used for any other purposes than TRIOS Software and order exchange. Any activities not related to TRIOS, e.g. surfing the Internet, checking mails etc. may pose a threat to the system integrity.

Use correct version of Windows In general, the default choice of operating system for a new PC should be: Windows 10 Pro Windows 8.1 Pro Windows 7 Ultimate TRIOS will in general work fine on both Home and Pro editions. However, there are some benefits of using the Pro version, compared to the Home version, including: The Pro version will enable the PC to be part of a corporate domain, whereas the Home version will not. Having the TRIOS PC on a domain is only relevant if the network of the clinic is already a domain (mainly at large clinics). Domain features include e.g. the ability to allow a user to use the same Windows log on credentials (user) on all PCs in the clinic. For Windows 10 (only), the Home version does not allow full control of Windows updates. This means that a Windows 10 Home system may once in a while start downloading a Windows upgrade, while the user is scanning. This will cause a temporary drop in scanning speed while Windows is downloading. Once download is complete, scan speed will return to normal. Windows 8.1 and 7 are unaffected as they offer full control of Windows update for both Pro and Home versions.

Summary The following table outlines a quick reference for the required setup steps. See subsequent sections for details. Consequence Attaching an external monitor may reduce scanning performance significantly (20 30%) Similarly, using 3 rd party tools to stream the display to another PC (e.g. TeamViewer) may also reduce performance significantly (up to 50%). Steps to perform The best setup when using an external projector is: 1. Use a projector with 1080P only 2. Use HDMI cable only 3. Use no kind of adapter between PC and projector (like e.g. DVI to HDMI or the like) This will result in the least performance drop possible (order of 10%)

Firewalls and antivirus programs Affected software versions See summary on page 5. Consequence Some PCs are delivered from the manufacturer with firewall and antivirus programs pre installed. It is recommended to avoid such programs in general as they may cause a number of issues: Connection problems for the TRIOS 3 scanner in some cases (TRIOS color and standard not affected) Performance drop during scanning Inability to sending orders and receiving communication and updates of software, manuals and other material required for the TRIOS system to work properly The PC should be used for TRIOS activities ONLY. The PC is an integral part of the complete TRIOS system and should not be used for any other purposes than TRIOS Software and order exchange. Any activities not related to TRIOS, e.g. installing 3 rd party programs, using PC for personal matters (games, surfing the Internet, checking mails etc.) may pose a threat to the system integrity. Steps to perform Uninstall the firewall package with issues. Use one of the known well working antivirus/firewalls solutions listed below: Windows firewall (required channels are opened automatically by the TRIOS software) Windows defender Conforming to these guidelines will provide similar safety as experienced with cart based TRIOS systems. Select common firewall/antivirus solutions For the sake of trouble shooting a select common firewall/antivirus solutions are listed below (It is not possible for 3shape to test each custom setup of antiviruses available on market) Antivirus/firewall package which is known to cause issues: McAfee LiveSafe Norton products Known well working antivirus/firewalls (in case you want to have a firewall installed): Windows firewall (handled automatically by the TRIOS software) Windows defender Symantec Endpoint Protection(will most likely need custom setup, which is outside 3Shapes responsibility)

Uninstall Qualcomm Atheros Bandwidth Control (or Killer bandwidth control ) Affected software versions See summary on page 5. Consequence If Qualcomm Atheros Bandwidth Control (or Killer bandwidth control ) is installed the user may from time to time experience that scanning will not stitch for 1 2 seconds (red rectangle instead of green). 24 Appendix: General guidelines Do not use PC for anything non TRIOS related The PC should be used for TRIOS activities ONLY. The PC is an integral part of the complete TRIOS system and should not be used for any other purposes than TRIOS Software and order exchange. Any activities not related to TRIOS, e.g. personal matters (games, surfing the Internet, checking mails etc.) will pose a threat to the system integrity. Use only the supplied USB adapter J5 Create Using other adapters may lead to instability in the connection (Described in PC setup guide for TRIOS in appendix Trouble shooting guide ). Use the USB Ethernet adapter for connection to scanner ONLY The supplied USB Ethernet adapter should be used for the TRIOS scanner ONLY. Using it for other purposes, e.g. surfing the Internet, may cause instability for TRIOS at a later point (settings may be modified to TRIOS incompatible values and remembered by Windows) Follow all the instructions in the PC setup guide document It is imperative for proper functionality and proper performance that all instructions in the PC setup document are followed accurately. Failing to do so may leave the system in a low performing state, unstable or even inoperable. As new issues are discovered this document will be updated, and the PC should be checked according to the document.

Appendix: Trouble shooting guide General step 1: Verify that all steps of this set up guide have been completed Please refer to the section Summary for a complete overview. If any of the steps are incomplete, please refer to the relevant section for instructions on how set up correctly. General step 2: Verify Windows Firewall Verify that TRIOS installation made the required modification to the Windows firewall. Open Windows control panel Step2: Select Windows Firewall Step3: Select Allow an app Windows Firewall Step 4: Verify that 3Shape ScanEngineServer has checkmark in the Public box (It is OK that the scan Engine Server appears multiple times, with various settings, as long as Public is checked)

Issue: Scanner not connecting Probable causes and corresponding fixes Cause Incorrect USB to Ethernet adapter used USB plug not fully inserted Some ports on the PC may not be able to connect properly to the scanner (Symptom is that scanner will not connect at all or is unstable.) Scanner connected to the regular Ethernet Loss of connection due to other reasons Loss of connection due to other reasons Small USB plug damaged by inserting wrong way in USB adapter box (TRIOS Color/standard POD only) The scanner may need up seconds to connect to the scanner after a major event. Such events may be TRIOS starting, PC recovering from sleep, scanner being connected Fix Use only the USB Ethernet adapter provided with the system (J5 create). It will work on USB3 as well USB2. Other USB Ethernet adapters may not work properly. Insert the USB plug fully in one firm movement. (It is possible to insert the USB plug half way (to the 1.st 'stop'), Windows will give an audible feedback indicating that connection is established' but it is really not. Consequently the TRIOS will be unable to connect to the scanner) Try inserting the Ethernet USB adapter into another USB slot The scanner must be connected directly to the PC, either via an USB Ethernet adapter or directly to an Ethernet socket in the PC. Never connect to a regular router/switch in a regular office network) Unplug scanner, wait 3 seconds and then reconnect Unplug USB Ethernet adapter, wait 3 seconds and then reconnect Replace the USB cable Allow for some time to connect to the scanner Issue: Unresponsive mouse Some wireless mice may in some cases be disturbed by the USB Ethernet adapter. Fix: Place the Mouse dongle and USB Ethernet adapter as far apart as possible. On laptops: Use USB sockets on each side of the laptop On stationary PCs: Use USB sockets on front and back of the PC

Issue: In case of Scanning seems significantly slower than usual 1. Make sure step 1 of this trouble shooting guide ( Verify that all steps of this set up guide ) have been performed 2. Make a clean installation of the NVIDIA graphics driver, see section Update drivers of the graphics card a. If performing a clean installation does not have the desired effect: UNinstall drivers from Windows Control Panel, and then re install. Remember to enable high performance for graphics card, as this will be reset when uninstalling the driver 3. Verify that the charger plug is fully inserted in to the socket on the PC. On some PCs the power plug may seem inserted, while it s actually only half way inserted. Insert the plug fully in one firm movement.

Appendix: Known issues for specific PCs All PCs on the TRIOS approved list in the product catalogue have been tested for performance with regards to TRIOS. This testing does not imply that 3Shape has tested and couch for every aspect of the general quality of the PC, such as build quality, long term stability, etc. This is outside the scope of 3Shape. Below are listed a number of general observations for select laptops, highlighting some common issues to observe. As the manufacturers of the laptops change the product over time, issue may come and go, why this list is only to be meant as inspiration. Note: The operations below require a skilled IT professional. Do not let a dentist, clinic assistant or similar perform any of the procedures below. Omen laptop AS the USB connectors are located at the back of the PC, the connectors or attached equipment (e.g. dongle) may be damaged when PC is lifted at front. Windows may report that the laptop is not charging which causes low performance. Fix is to reboot laptop. Dell XPS 15 laptop (January 2016 edition) Screen may go black after closing and re opening lid. Fix is to update the driver for the internal graphics card Alienware laptop Connection to scanner may be unstable when connecting the POD directly to the Ethernet socket of the Alienware laptop (not using the USB Ethernet adapter). This is caused by too large tolerances on the Laptop s socket. Fix is to use an Ethernet cable with slightly larger connector. Contact support. In some very rare cases the connection to scanner may be unstable due to incorrect setup of drivers. If the connection to scanner is still not stable after going through this setup guide, perform the procedure described below. Note: The procedure cannot be done remotely as the internet connection will be lost, so the reseller needs to be in front of the PC while performing this operation. 1. Uninstall all the network drivers (In Device Manager right click each item under Network Adapters and select Uninstall. Bluetooth drivers can be skipped.)

2. Reboot PC 3. Reinstall the Killer Suite from: (Note: Download the Killer Suite before uninstalling drivers.) 4. Reboot PC 5. Uninstall Qualcomm/Killer Bandwidth Control from network drivers 6. Reboot Also try to refresh the NVIDIA drivers: 1. Uninstall drivers 2. Reboot PC 3. Re install drivers (See section Update drivers of the graphic card ) Some BIOS versions prioritizes low noise over efficient cooling. This may case the CPU to run warm in some cases and subsequently throttle down, thus reducing scanning performance. Fix: Update to BIOS version A06 from Dell s support site. (CPU temperature may be checked by the program HWMonitor, which is a 3 rd party software available for free download on the Internet). Temperature should not reach 90 degrees C. Note: Updating the BIOS cannot be done remotely, so the reseller needs to be in front of the PC while performing this operation.
