3 ABOUT SIGNSPC The was developed by the Texas Department of Transportation for use on a Microsoft Windows computer sytem. SignsPC is used in conjunction with the Bentley Systems MicroStation computer-aided drafting application. The application extends MicroStation by providing the user with a toolkit for generating and labeling traffic signs. The toolkit also includes a lettering feature to accurately place lettering cells spaced according to standard specifications. MicroStation is a commercial software product. The SignsPC user is responsible for purchasing a MicroStation license and for installing the software. Page 3 of 8

Contact Information To request technical support or to report problems contact: Texas Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Division Traffic Engineering Section Phone: Release History and Support Status Product Name Version Release Date Support Status TxDOT Traffic Sign Detailing (SignsPC) September 2010 Supported TxDOT Traffic Sign Detailing (SignsPC) December 2007 Supported TxDOT SignsPC 3.1 March 2006 Supported Determining the Installed Version Use the following procedures to determine the specific version of SignsPC software currently installed: For Version 3.1 Only Run the Windows Add or Remove Programs applet (Start Settings Control Panel Add or Remove Programs) and look for the application named TxDOT SignsPC 3.1. If the TxDOT SignsPC 3.1 product is listed then Version 3.1 is installed For Version or Greater Use either of the following two methods: 1. Add or Remove Programs Method Run the Windows Add or Remove Programs applet (Start Settings Control Panel Add or Remove Programs) and look for the application named TxDOT Traffic Sign Detailing Program (SIGNSPC). If the product is listed, click on the product name and then click the support information link to open the Support Info window where the version number is listed. 2. MicroStation Method Start MicroStation and open a DGN file. On the MicroStation main menu bar select the SignsPC Help About SignsPC menu item. A MicroStation window will open and report the version number. Page 4 of 8

5 VERSION Status SignsPC Version is the current production release. Compatibility Version may be installed on Windows 7 and XP computer systems and is compatible with MicroStation V8 (Versions 8.5 and newer). Installing and Removing the Software Non-Texas DOT Users Reference the product distribution README file, included in the software distribution package. Texas DOT Users Work with local Information Resources personnel and use CA Unicenter Software Delivery related procedures to install and uninstall the software. 6 VERSION Status SIGNSPC Version was superseded by Version in September Version is currently supported; however, users are encouraged to switch to the current release. Compatibility Version may be installed on Windows 2000/3 and XP computer systems and is compatible with MicroStation V8 (2004 Edition, Version 8.5). Summary of Changes The following is a summary of the changes that have been applied to Version These changes are relative to Version 3.1. The MicroStation environment variable configuration file was renamed from signspc.cfg to txdot_signspc.cfg. This file is installed in the MicroStation application level configuration folder [MicroStation Directory]\config\appl during the installation process. A copy of the file resides in the SignsPC installation directory. The installation process now adds Registry entries. (See HKLM\Software\TxDOT\SIGNSPC). The SignsPC program folder has been added and is accessed as follows: Start>Programs>Texas Department of Transportation>Traffic Sign Detailing Program (SIGNSPC) The SignsPC User Guide has been updated. This document can be accessed via the SignsPC>Help>User Guide menu item or via the SignsPC User Guide shortcut, located in the SignsPC program folder. Support Information (this document) is now available via the Support Information shortcut, located in the SignsPC program folder. The non-txdot user s PC must have Internet access to access this document. The SignsPC pull-down is now loaded when MicroStation is opened. The SignsPC>Tools menu item has been added to activate the SignsPC toolbox. The SignsPC>Help>User Guide menu item has been added to access the SignsPC help file. The SignsPC>Help>About SignsPC menu item has been added to report the current version number assigned to the application. The SignsPC>Unload menu item has been added to deactivate the SignsPC application. To reload application, type MDL LOAD SIGNSPC in the MicroStation key-in field or select SIGNSPC from the Utilities>MDL Application list. The installation, based on the Windows Installer (MSI), performs a per machine type install and allows the software to be installed in any folder on the PC. The default installation directory, [Program Files]\TxDOT\SignsPC\, is recommended. Page 6 of 8

7 The installation establishes the Windows system environment variable TXDOT_SIGNSPC. The value of this variable represents the full path to the SignsPC installation folder (e.g. TXDOT_SIGNSPC=D:\Program Files\TxDOT\SignsPC\). The TXDOTDIR system environment variable is no longer used and will be removed if defined previously. Known Problems None. Page 7 of 8

8 VERSION 3.1 Status SignsPC Version 3.1 was superseded by Version in December V3.1 is supported; however, users are encouraged to switch to the current release. Removing Version 3.1 The SignsPC (Version 3.1) software should be removed before installing any new release of SignsPC software. Non-Texas DOT Users Reference the product distribution README file, included in the software distribution package. 1. Log in to the workstation using an account that has System Administrator privileges. 2. Start the Windows Add or Remove Programs applet (Start Settings Control Panel Add or Remove Programs). 3. Select the TxDOT SignsPC 3.1 application. 4. Select Change/Remove button to start the uninstall processing. Page 8 of 8
