1 Creating a stacked bar chart In this tutorial we are going to create a stacked bar chart based on a sample report. Stacked bar charts are easy to read and can show an alternate view of the structure of the data. Hey also help visualize variance within a group of data. In this example were going to chart a report that shows US population by age. Here is a snapshot of the report I ll use today: In our stacked bar chart I want to show each state as the column and each population segment as segment in the bar. After uploading the report and having it auto-configured I simply refresh my device and see the data. Shown here:

2 As you can see, viewing the data directly does not really give a sense of what is going on in this report. This is where charting comes into play quite nicely.

3 If we hit the context menu button (orange circle in the upper right hand corner) you will see that Webalo has drawn a default chart for this report. Seen here: When possible, Webalo will build a default bar chart for the report or database result screen shown on the device. The name is taken from the column headers and can be edited as we ll see in a minute. Here is the default bar chart shown in landscape mode:

4 Notice that the default chart has left off several of the columns of data. This is because having too many bars makes it difficult to understand the data. This is also editable in the charting options screen. To access the chat options screen, press the context menu while looking at the chart. 5 On this page we can edit all the aspects of our chart. Let s start by renaming the chart to something more meaningful. I ll use: Stacked Bar Population by Age. Then change the Chart Type to be Stacked Bar. At this point the options page will update and you ll have a new set of criteria. If you would like to make the chart the primary view of the data you can out a check mark in the box. If checked, you will see the chart when you first open your report rather than the data. Since this is the most beneficial view of this data I am going to set the charts to be the primary view. Leave the drill down set to None. If you are configuring a report that you would like to show as a set of charts you can easily set them to drill down into one another with this setting. The data set setting represents how many views of the data have been configured for this report. Most report will only have one, but some, especially those where a drill down chat would be added, may have two or more. Since I want the bars to be the state I ll set the One Bar for Each drop down to be state which are the row headers from the report. And since I want the segments of my stacked bar to be the age group I ll set that to be years which represents the columns of the report. The next section has to do with including ad excluding data from the chart. If you toggle the Select Values from drop down, you ll see that you have total control over what to include or exclude in your report. Seen here:

6 Since we will be viewing this chart on a mobile device, I ve decided to focus the chart on the adult population by unchecking age ranges younger than 18 years old.

7 Here is a shot of the options screen with all of our changes: At this point we re ready to view the chart so I hit the context menu and select Save Chart.

8 We then see the chart we just built: Swiping your finger left to right allows you to scroll through the various states.

9 If you are happy with the chart and are a Webalo admin, you can publish the chart to your end users. Simply click the context menu again and choose Publish Charts. When published all end users who are assigned this report will see the chart you have just configured; including the fact that we set this to be the primary view of the data.
