Introduction These release notes accompanies the new revision of nordicbrainex version released on February 15 th 2013, and summarizes the reasons to upgrade from previous versions and resolved issues, as well as known issues and limitations. Overview nordicbrainex v1.1.3 is a new revision of nordicbrainex, implementing 5 important bug fixes and 30 other bug fixes. 15 enhancements have also been implemented. For details please see the Resolved Issues section of these notes. Who should upgrade? Based on the amount of improvements made to software everyone who uses nordicbrainex should upgrade. nordicbrainex v1.1.3 Release Notes Page 1 of 8

2 Resolved issues Important issues are emphasized. #99/#516 Problems related to decimal separator. NordicBrainEx uses. as default decimal separator, but somehow this was sometimes overridden by the OS, which caused errors. The handling of decimal separator has been rewritten to avoid OS issues. #102 The option to try to volume render RGB series has been removed, as this does not work, and the option should not have been there. #103 Improved handling to avoid errors when rendering BOLD activations in 3D #174 Exported activation volumes larger than visualized in MPR. This issue has been corrected. #175 Corrected repeated display of license warning #180 Corrected use of BOLD Multiframe series when viewing them as underlay, or when viewing intensity curves. #208 Corrected case where moving/adding VOI would make hidden fiber groups visible. #263 High resolution images (512 or higher anatomical, 256 or higher DTI) could cause out of memory problems during DTI. This issue has been greatly improved. #264 Corrected memory leak in image transfer to avoid the service crashing after longer periods of use. #280 Issue with Windows DPI scaling if scaling is not set to 96dpi/100%. Corrected pixel pointer position in scatter VOI to ensure that the pixel selected is the one the arrow point to, regardless of DPI scaling. #296 Corrected loading of Philips enhanced MR images that contain a DICOM Raw Data Storage format file in the series. #299 Corrected handling of slice spacing vs. slice thickness when using images created by Siemens using Siemens Numa3 VB33 software. #316 Corrected editing database path from the database GUI #326 Issues with fibers and activations displayed in front of objects that it should be behind in the 3D viewer. This is based on limitations in the algorithms determining the order, and is related to interleaved objects. Corrected by setting all group and other opacities default to 100%. #411 Corrected black artifacts when running row resolution (e.g. window mode). (This did not apply to siemens mosaic or enhanced MR multiframe datasets) #625 Correcting issues with too large activation VOIs for low T-values. #626 Implemented a test to detect partial failure when extracting DTI gradients directions. #675 Corrected scatter VOI intensity graph issues related to the coregistration of the bold to the structural compared to the location of the points selected for intensity graphs. #685 Corrected an issue with releasing GDI objects. #707 Corrected an issue where fibers/fiber groups can be visualized and exported with wrong positioning in relation to the underlying structural dataset. This could occur when using two different structural datasets that have identical resolution and number of slices and at the same are not originally aligned but are then aligned through co-registration in nordicbrainex. #744 Corrected an error when anonymizing compressed DICOM images. #752 Corrected an issue where coregistration was applied to the gradients before DTI analysis, making the gradients align with the structural dataset and not the DTI dataset. If you are also running nordicice it must be updated to v or later. nordicbrainex v1.1.3 Release Notes Page 4 of 8

5 System Requirements Minimum requirements nordicbrainex v1.1 will run on a computer that meets the following minimum requirements: Operating system: o MS Windows (XP, Vista or 7) Hardware: o Pentium 2.0 GHz processor (or equivalent) o 2 GB RAM o 60 MB of free space on hard disk + 2 GB additional space for images (hard drive space should be added as image storage requirements increase). o Open GL 1.4 (or higher) compatible video adapter with at least 128 MB RAM o Monitor with 1024x768 resolution Recommended requirements To prevent poor software performance and to get the most out of nordicbrainex, we recommend that the computer meets the following specifications: Operating system: o Windows 7 (64 bit) Hardware: o Pentium 3.0 GHz dual core processor (or equivalent) o 6 GB RAM o 60 MB of free space on hard disk GB additional space for images (hard drive space should be added as image storage requirements increase). o 256 MB nvidia or ATI Video adapter o Monitor with 1920 x 1200 or higher resolution nordicbrainex v1.1.3 Release Notes Page 5 of 8

To get the most correct visualization the opacity should be kept at 100%. Important issues are emphasized. #100 Changing patient when one of the directions in the MPR is maximized causes the new patient to only be loaded in the maximized direction, and the other directions to be black. Workaround: Go to standard MPR view before changing patient. #101 Slice all when viewing Dynamic series returns only one image. Workaround: use the manual slicing tool. #199 Deleting an image from the report while it s open in the image marker editor will cause an Access violation. #206 Find VOI does not work properly when in Zoom/Pan mode #207 Trying to load a session, if the sessionfile does not exist, does not give a descriptive error message, just a standard Windows error message. #209 The following things are not saved in a session: - Datasets set as overlays/underlays, this is not saved. - Dataset set to view in 3D, this is not saved. - 3D viewer: Orientation is not saved - 3D viewer: BOLD activations shown in 3D viewer not saved. - 3D viewer: the orientation or cropping/clipping plane if any fancy editing has been done here is not saved. nordicbrainex v1.1.3 Release Notes Page 6 of 8

7 - The order of BOLD activations are not saved (appears alphabetically). - VOI color opacity not saved. Reset to default 30 % - Fiber group color opacity not saved. Set do the default value #210 Synchronize 3D/MPR does not work properly if the voxel-size is not 1x1x1 #212 VOI s that are reduced to a minimum size in one or more directions might lead to a failure to detect what fibers go inside this VOI as you might have crossing fibers that do not actually go through any of the voxels within the VOI. Workaround: make the VOI slightly larger. #263 High resolution images (512 or higher anatomical, 256 or higher DTI) can cause out of memory problems during DTI. This problem can be reduced by using Windows 7 64-bit OS as this allows nordicbrainex to use more memory, or you can use smaller resolution source images. #264 Retrieving/receiving and/or sending large amounts of images causes the nordic Dicom Communicator service to fail, and thus the transfer to fail. #345 Problems when changing the Gaussian smoothing value using the arrows in the BOLD settings. Close and re-open settings to verify what value is actually set. #374 Sometimes the save option for DTI gradients is not enabled. Workaround: delete and retype the last digit of the b-value. #606 Dataset with invalid birth date might fail to load. Invalid birthdate being any birthdate that does not follow the DICOM standard yyyymmdd #680 When loading a session, the motion correction is not loaded, meaning that the motion correction results are not viewable. The output maps are still correct. If you want to redo any analysis the motion-correction will be performed. #709 Deleting fiber groups can lead to a mismatch between the selected color of the group, and the color used in the 3D viewer. #721 Trying to save a BOLD design file with a wrong TR time that causes an error when saving will cause an error to appear every time you try to save this design. Workaround: restart the editing. #730 The Show in 3D for bold activation might not match the actual status. #732 Sending session can cause duplicate sessions at receiving side if there was problems during the transfer. #736 Saving session when an unsaved design was used, might cause the wrong settings to be displayed if selecting Edit settings after the saving of the session is performed. #741 Trying to save a session while analysis is running might cause errors. #758 The threshold all slider might not change max value when changing patient. nordicbrainex v1.1.3 Release Notes Page 7 of 8

8 #760 Low resolution causes parts of Database gui and possibly Bold settings to expand outside the screen. #761 Brown fiber groups change color back to red when a VOI is changed or deleted. #764 Changing the BOLD settings from the loading wizard on a currently loaded and analyzed bold dataset can cause software error.
