SCOPE This document represents the Release Notes for Robot Studio Painting PowerPac A new feature in this version is the Copy-Paste feature for nodes in the Painting PowerPac browser tab. In this release the additional option of Virtual Applicator is not available and can not be ordered through Business online. User can procure the license of Virtual Applicator when it is available and install on this version of Painting PowerPac. This will give access to the Virtual Applicator service which generates process parameters of Brush table. 3 RELEASE INFORMATION Content The Painting PowerPac consists of: Painting PowerPac build 4130 (built with RobotStudio/RobotWare build 0204) COMPATIBILITY Painting PowerPac 5.14 Painting PowerPac 5.14 can be installed on RobotStudio 5.14 only. Painting PowerPac , , The paint programs and panels created from these versions will open Painting PowerPac Painting PowerPac , 5.12, 5.11 Paint programs created using Painting Powerpac , 5.12 or 5.11 will not open in Painting PowerPac FUNCTIONALITY Painting PowerPac 5.14 New Functionality Copy-Paste User can copy-paste Paint Programs/ PaintStrokes/Instructions listed in the Painting browser tab. Improvements / Modifications Modifications New / Edit Panel It is not necessary to hold the Shift-key pressed, User can just select in the graphics to add/remove elements into the Panels list. Teach Position - Teach Position option which is available from context menu of Controller node in Painting tab has been renamed as PosTeach to be same as that defined on the IRC5P controller. - This option is also accessible from the ribbon tab from the Programming group. Painting Ribbon options - The Paint Cell group also includes the Splitting options o Split using Cutting Planes o Split using Freehand select o Split using Extract body - The Paint Specification option is shown only if there is a valid license of Virtual Applicator. - Job Control group has been renamed as Production which contains options for Job Queue and Virtual CBS. - The Virtual Fluid Device option is combined together with the Reports group which contains the Cycle Time option. 4 - Added 3D Tools group which contains o FreeHand options o View Tool at Target o Show/Hide General Virtual Applicator The Virtual Applicator license is not listed in Business Online in this release. HotFix for Painting PowerPac 5.14 There is a HotFix available to download for Painting PowerPac. It solves the following problems Problem 1: Update of SetBrush instructions in the graphical viewer Problem 2: Copy/Paste problem of SetBrush instructions NOTE! Please read the release notes of the HotFix for more information. 5 KNOWN LIMITATIONS LOCAL robotagets: RobTargets created from Painting PowerPac are declared as LOCAL and associated with the program. The name of the RobTarget will be associated with the program, Ex: m4/paint_10. If the same RobTargets are used in other programs, there will be some naming conflicts. It is suggested to avoid re-using LOCAL RobTargets declared in one program into other. Large or complex CAD models: When large or complex CAD models are imported into RobotStudio and user chooses to Divide the Workpiece, RobotStudio might not be able to process the Workpiece to sub-divide into smaller component. Workaround: Import CAD models with relatively lesser detail. Memory usage with Divide Workpiece: In order to divide a Workpiece there must be at least 500MB of free memory in the computer, If user chooses to proceed the RobotStudio process might stop responding if the CAD model is large or complex. Workaround: Close other running programs and ensure the free memory required is available. User would be able to Break Workpiece for simplified CAD model with smaller size and relatively lesser details. Panel Split Split operation is time consuming when operating on large sized CAD models & sometimes does not complete the operation. Workaround: Ensure that RobotStudio has sufficient free memory. Another option is to try to Split an undivided workpiece Panel. Culture settings and numeric data: The culture settings are set to English by default. If user has for example a German OS and Keyboard, then the decimal numbers are represented as, even when user keys. in the dialogs. Job Queue: When simulation is running and in Job Queue the Inhibit command is pressed. if user changes the controller state to Manual and then subsequently tries to click on Resume, sometimes there is no response from the controller. Workaround: Change the controller status to Auto mode & retry. If it doesn t work, Warm start the controller and try again. Undo and Redo behavior: Undo Redo is not supported for certain functionalities like Divide workpiece, Split Panels, New Panel, Edit Panel, Merge Panels, Rename Panels, Cycle Time Reports. Cycle time reports Multiple Activity rows are seen for same controller If there is only one source (robot system) in the report and several tasks all of which correspond to the same activity (Program/Material change/segment), then the tasks are shown in several rows instead of only one. Workaround: Select to visualize Segments tasks (if present) Page 5 of 10

6 Auto Paintstroke: Path might not be generated if the Panel is very complex Workaround: Identify more smaller & well defined panels. Simplify the panel using Split functions. Auto PaintStroke Path Direction: In some cases, when path is generated over a Panel, the direction of the path created might not be as expected. Workaround: Specify a Rotation angle to Rotate the path to the expected direction. Also choose between a combination of Path direction & Rotation angle to get the required path. Auto Paintstroke and CAD models: Auto PaintStroke option generates path with targets oriented normal to surface but with z-axis pointing out from the surface. Workaround: Process Workpiece removes overlapping or duplicate layers on the CAD model after sub-dividing. Ensure that there are no overlapping layers by clicking on the surface, if there are multiple layers then there will be a color difference. Delete these extra layers until only one remains and the;n generate path on that surface. Manual Paint Stroke and CAD models with wrl format: When creating Manual PaintStroke on CAD models with *.wrl format, the targets are not aligned with respect to either Spray Gun or Bell Applicator options but instead maintain a default orientation. Workaround: Process the *.wrl models to subdivide it into smaller pieces, then the targets shall be oriented normal to the surface using either Auto PaintStroke functionality or Manual PaintStroke functionality. KNOWN ISSUES Job Queue: While appending jobs to the controller or if Inhibit or Resume button is clicked more than once before the state can change, then an message is shown which reads as below No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it :8889:.. Workaround: Retry by closing and opening the Job Queue dialog. Wait until the state changes from Inhibit to Resume or vice-versa before clicking again. Undo Redo behavior: o o If an operation is performed from Painting PowerPac and user wants to undo the operation, then it is suggested that user has to do it from Painting PowerPac tab itself and not when in other tabs. In order to Undo the complete paint stroke after it has been created with Manual Paint Stroke the user must Undo multiple times (First press Undo to remove all the events and then one press on undo for each robtarget it contains). Painting browser tab updates: When working on the procedures and instructions created from Painting PowerPac in RobotStudio HOME tab, the changes made to the instructions are reflected in the Painting tab (E.g. Insert new PaintL instruction, Drag & Drop instructions etc). In some cases the instructions are not correctly organized. Page 6 of 10

7 Workaround: Close the Painting PowerPac and activate again, or Synchronize to VC from Painting PowerPac and Load the program again from Painting PowerPac (Sync 2 VC from PowerPac also creates & saves the RAPID module in the System folder). Manual PaintStrokes Target orientation is not appropriate When user is clicking on the Edges in a CAD model, Sometimes the RobTarget orientation is not as expected, i.e. when Bell type applicator is not selected, then the Y-axis of targets are expected to point towards the next target, in this case the faulty RobTarget may not point in the expected direction. Workaround: Manually modify the RobTarget Limited use of Keyboard shortcuts Cut/Copy/Paste operations from keyboard do not reflect correctly in Painting tab. Workaround: Use options provided in Context menu for performing the same operations Key press Delete Painting nodes are not removed Whenever user does Delete operation from keyboard on Panel or PaintStroke etc, then the nodes might not be removed. Workaround: Use option from context menu of the corresponding node Spray Angle The direction in which the target rotates when a Spray angle is specified depends on the current orientation of the targets X, Y & Z axis with respect to the path direction. Hence there might be situations when the target is not oriented appropriately after applying spray angle. The direction of rotation of the targets also depends on whether the targets s Z-axis is lying above or below the path direction, Note that this is by design. Modify SetBrush Not able to modify the SetBrush parameters if the major axis is incorrect If user inserts a SetBrush instruction from Hometab and the major axis is not as expected, then it is not possible for user to modify the SetBrush parameters from Painting PowerPac. Workaround: Delete the SetBrush and insert from Painting PowerPac RAPID generated after Synchronizing to VC is incorrect Sometimes after Sync 2 VC from PowerPac the RAPID generated is incorrect. One of the reasons could be that the name of the Workpiece or Brush Specification associated with a program does not confirm to the RAPID String declaration conventions. Sync 2 VC from Painting PowerPac creates some additional information in the RAPID about the Workpiece name and the Brush Specification etc. Workaround: Synchronize to VC from RobotStudio HOME Tab or Offline tab. LANGUAGE SUPPORT The Painting PowerPac 5.14 is available in English language. Page 7 of 10

Recommended is multicore processor o Memory: 1 GB RAM or more (More is recommended) 2 GB if running Windows Vista, Windows 7, Stations with several robot systems or large CAD models o Available disk space: 5+ GB on the system disk o Graphics card: High performance OpenGL-compatible graphics card with the corresponding up-to-date drivers installed o Screen resolution: 1280 x 1024 pixels (Recommended) o Colors: 256 or higher o DPI: Normal size (96 dpi) o Mouse: Three-button mouse Supported Operating Systems o Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32-bit & 64-bit edition with Service Pack 3 o Microsoft Windows 7 o Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit edition INSTALLATION Prerequisites The following software must be installed: o Robot Studio 5.14 o RobotWare It is possible to use older RobotWare versions, but with the limitations that some functions in RobotStudio/Painting PowerPac may not be supported by older RobotWare versions. Cycle time reports feature will work with RobotWare onwards version only. The default installation path for the Painting PowerPac 5.14 is \ABB Industrial IT\Robotics IT\. This is done in the installation wizard of the Painting PowerPac 5.14 Installation steps Execute the setup.exe file and follow through the installation steps. Painting PowerPac 5.14 should be installed under the \Robotics IT\ folder present at the same level as the Base application i.e. RobotStudio 5.14 Refer to the manual inside the product to start using the Painting PowerPac. 9 LICENSE SUPPORT How to order RobotStudio 5 and Painting PowerPac: To order RobotStudio 5.14 and Painting PowerPac you will have to log on to ABB BusinessOnline to purchase this. Then you can do an expanded purchase, and only purchase the Painting PowerPac option. The option for Virtual Applicator is currently not available and therefore not listed in the BOL.
