1 Release Notes for iplanet Integration Server EAI Version 3.0, SP1 Updated December 12, 2001 These release notes contain important information available at the time of the release of iplanet Integration Server EAI, Version 3.0, SP1 (iis). Information on significant updates, known problems, fixed bugs, and other issues are addressed here. Read this document before you begin using this release of iis. The section in this document, Unpacking the Distribution Files, provides information on how to prepare the downloaded distribution files for installation. Note: iis for the OS/390 platform is only available on IBM 3490 tape media. The SubscribeNet web site contains information about obtaining the iis for the OS/390 distribution. Combined Service Pack Releases for iis and UDS The availability of this release (iis, Version 3.0, SP1) is coordinated with the UDS 5.0 SP1 release. 3 Supported Systems and Software Supported Systems and Software iis Version 3.0, SP1 has been certified for specific combinations of hardware, operating systems, and third party software, as described in the platform matrix available at the following location: Support for SOAP v1.1 iis Version 3.0, SP1 conforms with SOAP v1.1, as defined by the W3C ( with the following limitations: iis expects SOAP messages in the SOAP-RPC style, not the document style iis does not perform type checking for input and output parameters Datatype conversion is limited to corresponding process engine attribute datatypes SOAP header and SOAP message chaining are not supported Headers are ignored unless the MustUnderstand attribute is set, in which case an error is generated. Support for SOAP with this version of iis has been certified for interoperability with the SOAP support available with iplanet UDS 5.0. For more information on SOAP support for this release, refer to Chapter 3 of the iis Backbone System Guide. Updates in iis, Version 3.0, SP1 This section lists the following significant updates that are included with iplanet Integration Server, Version 3.0, SP1. 4 Updates in iis, Version 3.0, SP1 Import WSDL Dialog New FNScript Commands New Client API Methods for IIOP Windows XP Support Support for Microsoft Windows XP Professional has been added for this release. This support is limited to the Windows XP Professional Edition and certification is only for an iis development client. Refer to the platform matrix for complete information on supported systems and software. XSLT Tools Plug-in Module The XSLT Tools Plug-in Module for Forte for Java 3.0 is a production version with this release. This module was previously introduced as Beta with iis 3.0. Installation instructions can be found in the readme.txt file provided with the module. The module is available in the ffj_mod directory of the distribution CD (downloadable as ffj_mod.tar from SubscribeNet). For information on known issues with the XSLT Tools Plug-in Module, refer to the following iplanet Knowledge Base article: Full Unicode Codeset Support This release provides full Unicode codeset support that is now available in iplanet UDS, Version 5.0 SP1. UDS partitions can now run using the UTF-8 codeset and there are 31 new files for UTF-8 locales to support date, time, and monetary formats used in most countries. This allows all UDS partitions, including iplanet Integration Server EAI proxies and process engines, to use UTF-8 everywhere for character data representation. The new locales provided with iplanet UDS, Version 5.0 SP1 are listed in Table 1. This means the XSLT processor can output documents in any encoding supported by the UDS runtime and a proxy can now read XML documents that are in a UDS-supported encoding. Documentation for character encoding support is available from the UDS online help. After opening the online help, search in the index for Character Encoding Support. 6 Updates in iis, Version 3.0, SP1 New Environment Variable IIS_JMS_RETRY This release of iis recognizes a new environment variable, IIS_JMS_RETRY, that affects the setup and recovery of JMS-enabled proxies in an iis backbone. This variable is useful on systems where JMS support may be compromised by slow JMS brokers or slow LDAP servers used for JNDI lookup. IIS_JMS_RETRY sets the number of times a proxy attempts to establish a connection between itself and its JMS-based partner setup. This variable is used at both initial startup and in the case of a JVM failure. IIS_JMS_RETRY should be set in the environment of the UDS node manager that serves one or more proxies. It affects all proxies assigned to that particular node. If IIS_JMS_RETRY is not defined in the environment, the proxy, by default, makes 10 attempts to establish a connection between itself and its JMS-based partner setup. You can define IIS_JMS_RETRY with a value greater than 10 to avoid timeout problems on systems with slow JMS brokers or LDAP servers. For more information, refer to the iplanet Knowledge Base article at: Import WSDL Dialog The Import WSDL dialog has been enabled for this release. This dialog, available from the Service Information dialog in the Application Dictionary Workshop, allows you to import a WSDL file and select the service information type to map to iis process attributes. Documentation for the Import WSDL dialog is available from the iis online help. After opening the online help, search in the index for WSDL. New FNScript Commands The following new FNScript commands have been added to this release: SetLoggerFlags ClearLoggerFlags SetLocaleName ClearLocaleName SetLoggerFlags and ClearLoggerFlags allow you to set logging flags specific to a proxy. These commands work on both the backbone and proxy levels. 6 iplanet Integration Server Release Notes December 2001

7 Bugs Fixed in iis, Version 3.0, SP1 SetLocaleName and ClearLocaleName allow you to specify the locale for a backbone or proxy. If you use SetLocaleName on a backbone, then all proxies for that backbone by default use the specified locale. You can then override the default behavior on individual proxies by issuing the SetLocaleName command at the proxy level. 9 Known Problems Known Problems Table 3 lists known problems with this release, suggesting possible workarounds. Table 3 Bug Number Known Problems Details When setting custom LoggerFlags on NT platforms, the iis proxy fails to start. Workaround: Construct the argument to Set LoggerFlags specific to the platform. This means on NT platforms, remove spaces in the argument and specify all settings for the flags. For example, the following specification works on UNIX platforms: fnscript> SetLoggerFlags "%stdout(err:sh:* cfg:ib:23)" To specify this setting on NT, you need to do the following: fnscript> SetLoggerFlags "%stdout(err:sh:*:*cfg:ib:23:255)" When compiling on Tru64 UNIX, a dynamic library linking error occurs with the enhanced security libqqknpthrd.so library. Workaround: When you need to link an application to the libqqknpthrd.so library, during compilation use the low security version of this file. After compilation, copy the high security version of this file back into $FORTE_ROOT/install/lib Forte for Java XSLT iis environment settings are not being saved. Workaround: To workaround this problem, reenter the registration module settings using the Tools ->Option ->XSLTTools Settings ->iis XSLT Registration menu each time you restart the Forte for Java IDE. If you do not reenter the settings, an error is generated indicating that the IIOP server cannot be found. Release Notes for iplanet Integration Server EAI 9

10 Unpacking the Distribution Files Unpacking the Distribution Files As mentioned in the previous section, General Information, the distribution files available from iplanet s SubscribeNet service need special preparation before you begin the installation process. This section describes how to prepare the downloaded files for installation. Table 4 lists the distribution files available with this release. Used only when performing a central server node installation on UNIX platforms that export iis applications to IBM OS/390 platforms. Windows platforms Sun SPARC After downloading the distribution, you need to unpack the files before beginning your installation. The instructions for unpacking the files vary according to platform. Refer to the following sections for instructions on unpacking the distribution files. Windows Platforms For Windows platforms, the distribution file, pc_w32_iis.zip is a compressed file. Extract the contents of this file to a local directory, then proceed with the installation as described in the iis Installation Guide. 10 iplanet Integration Server Release Notes December 2001

11 Unpacking the Distribution Files UNIX Platforms The iis install script for UNIX platforms is based on an installation CD image that includes directories for each platform certified for this release. To perform an iis installation on UNIX that can distribute to certified platforms, you need to download the distribution files for each of your target platforms and build the installation CD image on the UNIX platform you intend to use as a central server node. For example, if you plan to install an iis central server node on a Sun SPARC (Solaris) platform that exports iis applications to Windows and HP 9000 platforms, then you need to do the following: 1. Download the Solaris distribution to your Sun SPARC server and then extract the distribution files: % tar xvf sun_sol_iis.tar This creates a CDROM directory. The CDROM directory contains an ALL_UNIX directory and a SUN_SOL directory. 2. For the Windows target platform, download the distribution file (pc_w32_iis.zip) onto your Windows machine and extract the files. 3. In the CDROM directory on your Solaris platform, create a new directory called PC_W Copy the following two files from your Windows distribution to the newly created PC_W32 directory: Appdist.siz Appdist.trz 5. For the HP 9000 platform, download the distribution file (hp_ux_iis.tar) onto your HP machine and extract the files. 6. Copy the HP_UX directory from your HP distribution to the CDROM directory on your Solaris platform. You are now ready to proceed with your central server node installation on Solaris, as described in the iis Installation Guide. After you complete your central server node installation, you can then proceed with either a server node or runtime client node installation on the Windows and HP platforms.
