1 Experiment No 17 Aim : To connect desktop computer and laptop with LCD/DLP projector. Procedure : A] How to Connect a Projector to a PC What comes in the projector bag? The projector bag contains the projector, a power cable and a VGA cable. Step 1. Turning on the projector 1. Remove the projector and the power cable from the bag. Find the AC In port on the projector and put the correct end of the power cable in to it. 2. Plug the other end of the power cable into the wall outlet or power strip you will be using. 3. Make sure the power switch on the projector is in the correct position. The Power LED light will come on once you have completed these steps. Step 2. Connecting the Laptop to the Projector 1. Find the VGA cable located in the projector bag. 2. Locate the RGB In or VGA In port on the projector and connect one end of the VGA cable to that. 3. Connect the other end of the VGA cable to the VGA Out port on your laptop or other applicable device. Step 3. Find the Laptop Signal Using the Projector. 1. Turn on your laptop and get logged in. 2. Turn on the projector using the Standby/On button on the top of the projector. At this time the projectors main screen will start to be projected. 3. To force the projector to search for your laptops signal press the Input button on top of the projector. You should see Searching on the projection screen. Within a few seconds the projector will find the signal and project your desktop to the projection screen. 4. If the projector does not find your laptops signal you may have to configure the display settings on the laptop.

2 For Windows 7 you will want to press the windows key and the P key together. This will bring up a small menu on the screen. Choose Duplicate to project your desktop through the projector. B] Disconnecting the Projector Step 1. Turning Off the Projector 1. Once you are finished with the presentation you were using the projector for press the Standby/On button. A message will appear on the projection asking if you are sure you want to turn off the projector. If you are sure you want to turn off the projector press the Standby/On button again. 2. The projector has now turned off the lamp but the fan will still be running. Note: It is important to not disconnect the projector from its power supply until the fan has stopped running. Not doing so may cause serious damage to the projector. 3. While the projector is cooling down it is safe to remove the VGA cable that is also connected to your laptop and place it back into the projector bag. Step 2. Putting the Projector Away 1. Once the projectors internal fan has stopped running it is safe to disconnect it from the power supply. 2. Disconnect the power cable from the AC In port on the projector. 3. Place the power cable and the projector back into the projector bag. 4. Before returning the projector to Media Services please ensure that all parts that came in the bag when you checked it out are returning with the bag when you drop it off. 3 Experiment No 23 Aim : To install and work with scanner with default settings. Procedure : A] What is scanner A scanner is a device that captures images from photographic prints, posters, magazine pages, and similar sources for computer editing and display. Scanners come in hand-held, feed-in, and flatbed types and for scanning black-and-white only, or color. Very high resolution scanners are used for scanning for high-resolution printing, but lower resolution scanners are adequate for capturing images for computer display. Scanners usually come with software, such as Adobe's Photoshop product, that lets you resize and otherwise modify a captured image. Scanners usually attach to your personal computer with a Small Computer System Interface ( SCSI ). An application such as PhotoShop uses the TWAIN program to read in the image. Some major manufacturers of scanners include: Epson, Hewlett-Packard, Microtek, and Relisys. B] To install scanner 1. Turn the scanner on. 2. If you re not using a Plug and Play device or Windows doesn t have the driver for that device, you see the Found New Hardware message. Click the Found New Hardware message, click Yes, This Time Only, and then click Next again.

4 3. You only need to do this step if you don t permit Windows 7 to automatically connect to Windows Update. Otherwise, you don t see the Found New Hardware Wizard. 4. If you have a CD for the scanner, insert it in your CD drive and click Next. Windows 7 searches for your scanner driver software and installs it. 5. Choose Start Control Panel and type scanners in the Search box. Windows returns a set of links. 6. Click the View Scanners and Cameras link. The Scanners and Cameras window appears. 7. Click the Add Device button and then click Next. 8. The Scanner and Camera Installation Wizard window appears. When you click Next, the next screen of the wizard appears. Click a Manufacturer in the list on the left and then click a model in the list on the right. 9. Now it s just a matter of following the wizard directions based on the model of scanner you choose and whether you have a manufacturer s disc (a CD- or DVD-ROM). If you don t have a disc, Windows can help you download software from the Internet. 10. When you reach the end of the wizard, click Finish. The installation is complete. 5 Experiment No 24 Aim : To study scanner settings and saving documents in different formats. Procedure : A] Scanner settings How to configure scanner in windows 7 1. Click Start in the lower left corner of your computer screen. 2. Select Devices and Printers from the popup list. A new window will open. 3. Right click on the printer or scanner that you want to configure. A drop down menu appears. 4. Select Printer Properties from the drop down menu. A dialog box entitled Printer Properties will open. This is where you can configure ports, update drivers and customize your hardware options [source: Microsoft]. 5. Click the Ports tab from the list of tabs at the top of the box. 6. Click on the Configure Port button. 7. Configure the options according to your needs. 8. Click OK to save your configuration choices [source: Epson]. B] How to change the settings for scanning from Home Mode of ControlCenter4 In Home Mode, you can configure Document Type and Scan Size before scanning a document. Document Type: The following three basic settings are available:

6 Photo: Resolution: 600x600dpi, Scan Type: 24bit Color Text and Graph: Resolution: 300x300dpi, Scan Type: 24bit Color Monochrome Text: Resolution: 200x200dpi, Scan Type: Black and White You can also set and store your preferred settings for Document Type. 1. Click the Scan tab and choose Custom. Then, click Custom Settings. 2. The Custom Scan Settings window will appear. Configure the settings and click OK. Scan Size: Choose your document size from the Scan Size drop-down list. You can choose other settings, such as File Type, File Name and Scan Location (or Destination Folder), after scanning. C] How to change the settings for scanning from Advanced Mode of ControlCenter4 In Advanced Mode, there are four scan options: Scan to File, Scan to , Scan to OCR and Scan to Image. You can configure the advanced scan settings for each option. Scan to File This allows you to scan a document to a pre-defined folder. Click here to see the details of how to change settings for Scan to File. Scan to This allows you to scan a document to your default application and send the scanned job as an attachment. How to change settings for Scan to File: 1. Click the Scan tab and right-click the File button. Then, choose Button settings. 2. The settings window for Scan to File will appear. Configure the settings and click OK. For example, you can set the prefix text used for the file name of the scanned data in the File Name box. You can also set the folder to save the scanned data in the Destination Folder or Scan Location box. How to change settings for Scan to 1. Click the Scan tab and right-click the button. Then, choose Button settings.

7 2. The settings window for Scan to will appear. Configure the settings and click OK. For example, you can choose the file format of attachment from the File Type drop-down list. How to change settings for Scan to OCR: 1. Click the Scan tab and right-click the OCR button. Then, choose Button settings. 2. The settings window for Scan to OCR will appear. Configure the settings and click OK. For example, you can choose the word processing application where the converted text data will be displayed from the Target Application drop-down list. You can also choose the language you want to convert into from the OCR Language drop-down list. How to change settings for Scan to Image: 1. Click the Scan tab and right-click the Image button. Then, choose Button settings. 2. The settings window for Scan to Image will appear. Configure the settings and click OK. For example, you can choose the graphics application where the scanned image will be open from the Target Application drop-down list. D] How to change the settings for scanning by pressing your Brother machine's SCAN key In ControlCenter4, you can configure the settings for scanning by pressing the SCAN key on the control panel of your Brother machine. 1. Open Device Scan Settings window. In Home Mode: Click Device Settings tab => Device Scan Settings. In Advanced Mode: Click Device Settings tab => Device Scan Settings. 2. The Device Scan Settings window will appear. There are four scan options: Scan to File, Scan to , Scan to OCR and Scan to Image. Click the tab for the scan option you want to configure and configure the scan settings. Then, click Apply => OK.
