1 Guidelines for Prepress File Submission 1. Use Only PostScript Type 1 Fonts (Using on Mac platform) Edition: February 2015 We support the PostScript Type 1 font format and strongly recommended that you avoid using TrueType fonts. We will not accept color jobs (including covers and jackets), which contain TrueType fonts. While we will accept black & white text jobs with TrueType fonts, we discourage their use. (Films works can accept TureType fonts, but not CTP works) 2. Avoid Using the Font Styling Commands When possible, avoid stylizing your fonts using the type style attribute selections (bold, italic, outline, small caps, etc.) in your page-layout application. Instead, choose a stylized typeface from the font list. For example: instead of stylizing the Times Roman font to make it bold, choose the Times-Bold font. 3. Font Inclusion Common industry practice is to include all screen and printer fonts used in your documents and graphic files, with the job. 4. Image File Formats Include on your disk all graphic files used in your documents. Hi-res images (Please ensure they are in CMYK mode, not RGB) are the only acceptable formats for graphic files imported into your document. Do not use graphic file created in other formats, like PICT, PCX, or "Clipboard" images. Don't rename graphic files after they have been placed into the page layout document. The total dot percentage in any spot in the four-color file or film should not be more than 300%. 5. Image File Resolution The image resolution for grayscale and color scans must be no less than 200 pixels per inch (ppi) and no more than 300 ppi at the final size. The only advantage to scanning color of grayscale image at a higher resolution is to allow for later enlargements. The quality of the scan will not be improved by higher resolution. The resolution of line-art image should be no less than 800 ppi and no more than 1200 ppi at the finished size. 6. Printed Image File If scanned printed Images are supplied as final images for output, please make sure they do not have moiré pattern effect. We cannot find out these effect accurately on screen until film/plate have been output. Please inform your prepress technicians about this matter. 7. Page Size The document's page size must be the same as the trim size of the finished page. Do not create "reader's spreads" on a single page. 8. Bleeds All elements which bleed off the page must extend no less than 1/8" beyond the trim size. 1

2 9. Organizing Your Files (Text Pages, Cover, PLC or Jacket) Send only on project on a disk. Choose file names which describe what each file contain. For example: "Chap01" for the first chapter of a book, or "P " for pages 1 through 95. A printed directory of your disks is also helpful. 10. Laser Proof Send us laser proof of the entire project at 100% of file's size. Include crop mark possible. If you make alterations to your document after lasers have been printed, indicate on lasers clearly or send new lasers together with the altered file(s). Laser proofs are important to us since they are the standard requirements of final output. 11. Media We accept files on the following media: *CD-ROM *DVD 4.7GB *External hard disk in 220V with cable *USB Drive 12. Send Only Backup Files. Never Send Us Your Original Files. 13. Native Files We will accept application files for text and cover documents from QuarkXPress 6.x and 9.x; Illustrator CC2014; PhotoShop CC2014; Indesign CC2014; Acrobat 10.x. Files form earlier versions of these software may not acceptable. 14. PDF Files i) If you want to create the PDF yourself, please be ensured all the page layouts are error free. All the bleeding, overprinting, resolution, Fonts etc., should be well prepared before the PDF created. We can only make minor changes on PDF files such as type changes or color change. If those files are encrypted, we cannot make any changes. ii) It would be a benefit for both printer & publisher if source files (QuarkXpress, InDesign, etc.) can be sent together with PDF files. We can make changes whenever output problems happen. iii) Please refer to our "Guidelines of making a PDF or Ripped file" for layout format reference. 2

3 15. Ripped and Trapped Files i) If you want to create your own ripped and trapped files yourself, please be ensured they are error free as we cannot make any changes on that kind of file format. We support the following file format:- - PDF - Postscript Level 1, 2 and 3 - EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) - TIFF/IT-P1 ii) Although we support the above file format, we strongly recommend our clients to send us the file for testing if they are not sure the file format saved or ripped are correct or not. iii) It would be a benefit for printer if source file (QuarkXpress Indesign, etc.) can be sent together with ripped and trapped files. We can make change whenever output problems happen. iv) Please refer to our 'Guideline of making a PDF or Ripped file' for layout format reference. 3

5 iii) Image trapping Make sure all elements inside an image (pixel based) are trapped properly as we cannot use our in-rip Trapper to trap any objects inside a pixel based picture (Original without trapping) (Trappinmg properly applied) 3) VERSIONING If more than one language will be printed, please produce one 4-color master file for content and the other separated black text files for different language editions. Please make sure all black text set to "overprint" although they are printed on white background. (4C picture master file) (Black text file UK edn) (Black text file UK edn) 4) Printed Image file Make sure supplied rescanned images do not have moiré pattern. We cannot find out these effects on screen until films or plates have been output. 5) Graphic (Vector) Trapping Make sure all graphic elements are trapped properly. If you want us to trap your files (except for ripped files). Please set all graphic elements to "knockout" 6) Fonts All fonts must be embedded inside the file. 5
