1 The Functions of MapperWrapper Exercise 3 Step 1: Review the The MapPlace MapperWrapper Page Click Main Maps from the MapPlace home page. Select map MapperWrapper which is the fourth map from the top. KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 1
2 This exercise will cover the two components of MapperWrapper.: 1. the basemaps provided to enable additional user information to be added to the maps, and 2. the MapperWrapper remote package that enables continued work on a map previously saved as a MapGuide map file (*.mwf) and residing on the clients computer. A link to the MapperWrapper Manual for additional information is provided on the MapperWrapper page. To work with a map that has been saved on a client computer the MapperWrapper remote package must be downloaded and installed on the client computer. Step 2: Launch MapperWrapper online basemap. Click the UTM Zone 10 Projection, Whole province, NAD83 MapperWrapper. UTM Zone 10 Projection Create a layer called Fault buffer. Click the Add/Change Layer button. 3 Note: at the top of the legend on the left, the layer Fault Buffer is created. Now change the value in the Layer Priority: window to 50. Click the Add/Change Layer button. The layer has shifted down to where it is below the Sea layer in the Topographic layers group and above the Grid Layers group. Change the Layer Priority back to 99 and click the Add/Change Layer button. Zoom into the Kamloops area at 1:400,000 scale by placing the cursor in the map window, clicking the right button on the mouse, and selecting the Zoom Goto option. For the BC Locality Category: in the Location window type Kamloops, then click OK. Select Kamloops. Again right click and select Zoom Scale and in New Scale window type Click on layers: BC Communities ARIS Reports Roads 1:250K (<2M) Lakes 1:250K (<2M) Rivers 1:250K (<2M) Contact & Faults (<1.5M) Pan to the west until the west end of Kamloops Lake. With the Zoom tool zoom into the 2 nd fault east of Savona. Select ARIS reports within a kilometre of the fault. First make the Fault Buffer the active layer by clicking the Layer Control button in the right legend and in the Active Layer Name type Fault Buffer. Click the Add/Change Layer button. Click the Line Control button. In the Polyline Name type Fault for buffer and click Add Polyline. KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 3
4 Now trace the fault from the top on the north side of the lake through to the south end. Select the line and right click and highlight View then Buffers KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 4
5 Leave the Buffer offset distance at 1.00 km. Click OK. Select the buffer and right click KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 5
6 Right click again and click View Reports under View. Select the ARIS reports by year and click OK Now select ARIS Linked Report. Click OK. KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 6
7 The Assessment Report Expenditures page returned the ARIS reports within the buffer. These reports are linked to the ARIS database where more information about each report can be found. Click on report number under the Report Number column. KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 7
8 Notice the information available like Property Name, Location, and Title of Report. This particular report has a scanned file of the report. It can be accessed by clicking the PDF Report button. 9 Click the Layer Control button and in the Active Layer Name type Point data. Click the Add/Change Layer. Click the Symbol Control button. Type Point in the Symbol Label window. Click Add Symbol. Within the map area click the left mouse button to add symbols. Once a Black Ball has been added place cursor over it and the label point should appear. Click the Layer Control button and in the Active Layer Name type Area of Interest.and add the layer. Click the Polygon Control button and type Area in the Polygon Name window. Click Colours next to the window under Edge Colour and view the colour chart. KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 9
10 In the Colour window input 4 to change the colour to black. Leave the Edge Thickness at 3 and Edge Style at Solid. Leave Fill Colour at 8 and Fill Style at Solid KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 10
11 Zoom into the Kamloops area with screen width of 50km. Turn on some basemap layers (lakes, rivers and roads). Now click the Add Polygon button and draw a polygon on the map. Click the Text Control button. In the TEXT Name window type My Area. Set the Text Height to Click the Add TEXT button and click the center of the polygon. Click the Erase Control button. Select the My Area text in the polygon. Click ERASE selected. The Erase All button will remove all the added features in the active layer and the DELETE MAPLAYER will remove the active layer. 12 Save the file in a directory that exists and the rename it a name you prefer. NOTE: To work with a map that has been saved on a client computer the MapperWrapper remote package must be downloaded and installed on the client computer. Click the Grid Control button. Under the Coordinate System click the Map Coordinate system. Under the Line Labels click On. In the Label Size window type Now click the Get Grid Estimate button then click the Build Grid button. 13 Note the values in the East-West Lines and the North-South Lines. Click the Clear Grid button. In the Spacing window for both the East-West Lines and the North-South Lines replace the values with In the South Line window under East-West Lines replace the value with with no decimal places. In the West Line window under North-South Lines replace the value with with no decimal places. Click Build Grid Click the Unplugger Control button. Unplugger is used to create a map that can be used without an active Internet connection. The resulting map may be used with the MapperWrapper Tools or simply opened in an Internet browser with the MapGuide viewer installed. Simply Zoom KEG 2006 MapPlace Workshop Exercise 3 13
14 into the area of interest and turn on all required layers. Only those layers which have been turned on will be available for viewing when disconnected from the Internet. Certain functions requiring Internet access will not be available such as reports and zoom-goto when working off line. These functions and all other layers will be available when the Internet connection is restored. Only the map area that is within the map window will be available for viewing. To cover a large area at a given scale several 'unplugged' maps may be produced. Click the Lock Down Map button. Now click the Create Map button. Save the file to a directory. Return to the MapperWrapper page. This may require hitting the back button several times. Click the Download Mapper Wrapper (500K) remote package and save it in the directory with the saved map (My_Map.mwf). In Microsoft Windows open up the directory where MapperWrapper.zip is saved and unzip it. Extract the Zipped files. The map file, BaseMap.mwf, is the default map. Other maps can be used if renamed to BaseMap.mwf. Launch the MapperWrapper by opening the MapperWrapper.htm file in a browser. For example, right-click the file and Open With Internet Explorer.
