3 Description of sensor functions The ultrsonic double sheet monitor is used for double sheet detection in ll situtions in which the utomtic distinction between double nd single sheets is required in order to protect mchines or void wste production. The double-sheet monitor is bsed on the ultrsonic through-bem principle. The following cn be detected: - No sheet, i.e. ir, - Individul sheet - Double sheet A microprocessor system evlutes the signls. The pproprite switch outputs re set s result of the evlution. Chnges in mbient conditions such s temperture nd humidity re compensted for utomticlly. The interfce electronics is integrted into compct M18 metl housing together with sensor hed. Switching on The sensor is equipped with 6 connections. The functionlity of the connections is described in the following tble. The function input (PK) is used to ssign prmeters to the sensor. (See Output pulse extension, Alignment id nd Progrm selection). During norml opertion, the function input must lwys be securely connected with +U B or, to void possible interference or improper functionlity. Disply Mode The selected prmeter ssignment of the sensor cn be displyed by switching the function input (PK) to voltge-free during norml opertion. The green LED displys the progrm number (the number of flshing pulses (1... 4) = the progrm number). The outputs re inctive during this time. If the function input (PK) is switched to voltge-free when power is supplied (Power-On), the sensor will lso work in disply mode. If the unit is switched to voltge-free while the function input (PK) is in opertion due to n error (broken cble, coming loose becuse of vibrtion), disply mode cts s fult disply. Prmeter ssignment The sensor is equipped with 4 progrms for different rnges of ppliction. This mkes it possible to work with wide rnge of mteril. The user cn select the progrm best suited for specific ppliction. The defult setting, Progrm 1, is designed so tht no chnge in the setting is required for most pplictions. When the "Progrm selection mode is ctive, switching on function input (PK) on to +U B (for > 500 ms) selects the next progrm level. Disconnecting the power supply cuses the system to exit the current mode with the selected progrm chnge. The switch outputs re not ctive while prmeters re being ssigned to the sensor! If the trnsmitter is not ligned properly in reltion to the receiver, mximum sound energy is not trnsmitted to the receiver, which my result in the incorrect detection of mterils. When the sensor detects n re of ir (yellow LED lights up), the UDC begins to disply the strength of the mesured mplitude signl: - if the signl is wek, the yellow LED flshes t low frequency - the flshing frequency increses in line with the signl strength - the yellow LED lights up continuously when the signl strength is sufficient. The single sheet function (green LED) nd double sheet function (red LED) re now ctive. This cn be used to check the correct function of the sensor. Progrm selection In the progrm selection mode, the current progrm is displyed by the green LED (number of flshing pulses = progrm number). Applying the djustment input (PK) to +U B (for > 500 ms) cuses the next progrm to be selected in cyclic sequence (progrm 1 follows through to progrm 4). Notes: A complete device consists of n ultrsonic emitter nd n evlution unit with n ultrsonic emitter. The sensor heds re optimlly djusted to ech other when they leve the fctory. Therefore, they must not be used seprtely or exchnged with other devices of the sme type. The plug connector on the emitter/receiver connection cble is only intended to be used for esier mounting, not to replce units. Very light ppers (for exmple hndkerchiefs) or perforted ppers re not lwys suitble for double sheet detection becuse of their physicl chrcteristics. If two or more double sheet controls re used in the immedite vicinity of ech other, there my be mutul interference between them, which cn result in improper functionlity of the devices. Mutul interference cn be prevented by introducing suitble countermesures when plnning systems. When instlling, cre hs to be tken tht the ultrsonic signl cnnot pss round the mteril tht is to be detected, due to multiple reflections. This cn hppen if lrge surfces re present t right ngles to the direction of sound propgtion. This cn be the cse if unsuitble mounting brckets re used, or if ssemblies with lrge surfce re prt of the mchine. In the ltter cse such mchine prts should be covered by sound bsorbing mteril or different loction for the instlltion should be chosen.
