Please read the nstructons carefully to enjoy the full beneft of the powerful functons offered by the CELVIN NAS!! The CELVIN NAS s herenafter also referred to n short form as NAS or QR806 (Model wth 4 hard dscs) or QR1006 (Model wth 8 hard dscs). Back up your system regularly to avod any potental data loss. DPS-250AB-81 A.! Incorrect replacement of the battery may lead to a rsk of exploson. Only replace the battery wth the battery type recommended by the manufacturer or an equvalent type. Dspose of used batteres n accordance wth the manufacturer's nstructons. Do not, under any crcumstances, touch the fan located nsde the system; ths could cause serous njures. Your NAS can operate normally n temperatures of 0 to 40ºC and wth a relatve humdty of 20 to 85%. Please make sure that ts operatng envronment s well ventlated. The power cord and devces connected to the NAS must be connected to a sutable power source (90 to 264 V, 100W) Do not place the NAS n drect sunlght or near chemcals. Make sure that the temperature and humdty of the envronment are wthn the permtted ranges. 4 Fujtsu

11 Your CELVIN NAS Unplug the power cord and separate all connected cables before cleanng the devce. Wpe the devce wth a dry towel. Do not use a chemcal cleanng agent or aerosol to clean your NAS. Do not place any objects on top of the NAS for the server's normal operaton and to avod overheatng. When nstallng a hard dsk n the NAS, use the flat head screws n the product package to ft the hard dsk n the NAS. Do not place the NAS near any lqud. Do not place the NAS on any uneven surface to avod fallng off and damage. Make sure the voltage s correct n the locaton where the NAS s nstalled. If you are uncertan, contact the dstrbutor or the local power supply company for nformaton. Do not place any objects on the power cord. Never try to repar your NAS yourself. Improper dsassembly of the product may expose users to electrc shock or other rsks. For any enqures, please contact the dstrbutor. The NAS models wth an nstallaton frame may only be nstalled n a server room and servced by authorsed server managers or IT admnstrators. The server room must be kept locked; only authorsed employees may have access to the server room usng a key or keycard. Transport all the devces ndvdually and only n ther orgnal packagng or n other sutable packagng whch protects them from knocks and jolts. Do not unpack them untl they have reached the place where they are to be set up. Ask other people to help you carry the devce. Never lft or carry the devce usng the handles on the front panel When settng up and operatng the devce, follow the nstructons for the envronmental condtons n the "Techncal Data" secton. ON/OFF swtches do not dsconnect the devce from the mans voltage. To completely dsconnect the devce from the mans voltage, you must remove the mans plug from the mans socket. 17 Installng the NAS Installng the NAS For nformaton on hard dsk nstallaton and ntal operaton, please refer to the "Quck Start Gude". To nstall the NAS, proceed as follows: Swtch on the NAS. Connect the NAS to the same network as your PC.! To make sure that the NAS works correctly, pay attenton to LEDs and alarm buzzer sounds durng nstallaton. See "Check system status" for more nformaton. Lst of recommended hard dsks Ths product wll work wth 2,5/3,5 nch SATA hard dsks from major hard dsk manufacturers. A lst of compatble drves can be found at Fujtsu Technology Solutons wll accept no lablty whatsoever for any product defects/faulty operaton, and/or any tme and costs assocated wth data loss/data recovery, nsofar as the cause can be attrbuted to msuse or mproper nstallaton of hard dsks, regardless of the crcumstances or for whatever reason. Please note that when nstallng a hard dsk (new or used) whch has not prevously been nstalled on the NAS, the hard dsk wll frst be formatted and sub-dvded automatcally, and all dsk data wll be lost. System ventlaton Please ensure when settng up the devce that suffcent ventlaton wll be avalable at all tmes. The ar nlet of the product must not be covered, as otherwse t s not possble to guarantee that the system wll receve suffcent ventlaton, whch may lead to the product beng damaged. Fujtsu 11

When you swtch on the NAS, check the followng tems to make sure that the system s workng normally. Please note that the nformaton provded by the LEDs descrbed below s only vald f the hard dsks have been correctly nstalled and the NAS s connected to the network and the power supply. Confgurng the software settngs Vst the webste Select your NAS model. Select Downloads and then Applcatons. Ths wll dsplay the avalable programs. Download Fujtsu Fnder or Qfnder and start the nstallaton. Follow the on-screen nstructons to nstall Fujtsu Fnder or Qfnder. Fujtsu Fnder or Qfnder wll then run automatcally. All the functons carred out by Fujtsu Fnder can be carred out n the same way by QFnder. In the followng text, these functons are therefore only descrbed for the Fujtsu Fnder. 16 Fujtsu

23 Installng the NAS If you are usng Wndows 7/8/10, the followng wndow wll be dsplayed: Set a checkmark aganst Prvate networks, such as my home or work network. Clck on Allow access. Fujtsu Fnder detects the NAS on the network and f necessary asks whether Quck Setup should be run. Fujtsu 17

24 Installng the NAS Clck on Yes to contnue.! If the NAS could not be found, please clck on Refresh to retry. Check that you have nstalled a hard dsk n the NAS. Note that durng NAS set up, the nstalled hard dsk wll be formatted and all the data on t wll be lost. Follow the nstructons for ntal confguraton. The confguraton process may take up to twenty mnutes f the hard dsk used has a capacty larger than 1 TB. 18 Fujtsu

25 Installng the NAS Select the desred drve confguraton for the NAS: Confguraton Sngle Dsk Volume JBOD (Just a bunch of dsks) Descrpton Each hard drve s used as a standalone dsk. If a hard drve s damaged, all the data wll be lost. JBOD s a collecton of hard drve that does not offer any RAID protecton. The data are wrtten to the physcal dsks sequentally. The total storage capacty s equal to the sum of the capacty of all member hard drves. RAID 0 Strpng Dsk Volume RAID 0 (strpng dsk) combnes 2 or more hard drves nto one larger volume. The data s wrtten to the hard drve wthout any party nformaton and no redundancy s offered. The total storage capacty of a RAID 0 dsk volume s equal to the sum of the capacty of all member hard drves. RAID 1 Mrrorng Dsk Volume RAID 1 duplcates the data between two hard drves to provde dsk mrrorng. To create a RAID 1 array, a mnmum of 2 hard drves are requred. The storage capacty of a RAID 1 dsk volume s equal to the sze of the smallest hard drve. Fujtsu 19

26 Installng the NAS RAID 5 Dsk Volume RAID 6 Dsk Volume The data are strped across all the hard drves n a RAID 5 array. The party nformaton s dstrbuted and stored across each hard drve. If a member hard drve fals, the array enters degraded mode. After nstallng a new hard drve to replace the faled one, the data can be rebult from other member drves that contan the party nformaton. To create a RAID 5 dsk volume, a mnmum of 3 hard drves are requred. The storage capacty of a RAID 5 array s equal to (N-1) (sze of smallest hard drve). N s the number of hard drves n the array. The data are strped across all the hard drves n a RAID 6 array. RAID 6 dffers from RAID 5 that a second set of party nformaton s stored across the member drves n the array. It tolerates falure of two hard drves. To create a RAID 6 dsk volume, a mnmum of 4 hard drves are requred. The storage capacty of a RAID 6 array s equal to (N-2) (sze of smallest hard drve). N s the number of hard drves n the array. RAID 10 Dsk Volume Clck on Next and then on Start Installaton. RAID 10 combnes four or more dsks n a way that protects data aganst loss of nonadjacent dsks. It provdes securty by mrrorng all data on a secondary set of dsks whle usng strpng across each set of dsks to speed up data transfers. RAID 10 requres an even number of hard drves (mnmum 4 hard drves). The storage capacty of RAID 10 dsk volume s equal to (sze of the smallest capacty dsk n the array) N/2. N s the number of hard drves n the volume. RAID 10 tolerates falure of only two dsks from two dfferent sets of dsks. 20 Fujtsu

27 Installng the NAS Connectng a network drve Start Fujtsu Fnder. Open the menu Tools - Map Network Drve. The NAS offers several standard network shares. Select the network share that should be mapped as a network drve and clck onnetwork Share. Download, Multmeda, USB and Web are standard network shares for usng Download Staton, Multmeda Staton, external USB storage devces (automatc copy functon), or Web Server. Recordngs s the standard network share for usng the Survellance Staton. Enter the default user name and password. Standard user name: admn Default password: admn Fujtsu 21

29 Installng the NAS Once a connecton has been successfully establshed, the network share wll become avalable for use as a local data carrer n Wndows Explorer. Fujtsu 23

30 Connectng to the NAS Connectng to the NAS Usng the publc folder (publc network share) The NAS publc folder can be accessed n the followng ways: Open Network Neghborhood and locate the NAS workgroup. If the server cannot be found, then please search the whole network for the NAS. Double clck the name of the NAS to establsh a connecton. Alternatvely: Clck on Start - Run or keep the Wndows key on your keyboard pressed and press the R key. Enter \\[NAS name] or \\[NAS IP] to access the shared folders on the NAS. The placeholders [NAS name] and [NAS IP] represent the name or IP address of your NAS. You can use the Fujtsu Fnder to obtan ths nformaton. 24 Fujtsu

32 Connectng to the NAS Admnsterng the NAS va a Web browser under Wndows The NAS Web admnstraton page can be accessed by the followng methods: Fnd the NAS va the Connect Fujtsu Fnder and clck on Connect. Open a web browser and enter IP]:8080. The default NAS IP s :8080. If the NAS has been confgured to use DHCP, then the Fujtsu Fnder can be used to check the IP address of the NAS. Make sure that the NAS s connected to the same subnet as the computer that s runnng Fujtsu Fnder. If t s not possble to search for the IP address of the NAS, please try connectng the NAS drectly to the computer and restartng the Fujtsu Fnder. Enter the user name and password to log n. Default user name: admn Default password: admn The NAS supports encrypted SSL logn. Ths allows the server to be confgured and managed over and encrypted data lnk. To use ths functon, check the Secure Logn opton on the admnstraton page before loggng n to the server. 26 Fujtsu

33 Connectng to the NAS If the NAS s stuated behnd a NAT gateway and t s necessary to allow access to the NAS usng secure logn over the Internet, then Port 443 must be open on the NAT and mapped to the LAN IP of the NAS. Admnstraton user nterface After completng the ntal set-up for the NAS and loggng n, the Admnstraton user nterface appears = Desktop area wth varous applcatons 8 = Notfcatons and warnngs 2 = System control 9 = Personal settngs 3 = Show desktop 10 = Restart, shutdown, logoff 4 = Man menu 11 = Help, language, desktop features 5 = Search 12 = Control centre 6 = Background tasks 13 = Next desktop 7 = External devces 14 = Recycle bn To dsplay the admnstraton user nterface, a screen resoluton of at least 1024 x 768 s recommended. 34 Connectng to the NAS Openng the man menu Clck on. The man menu wll appear. The man menu conssts of three parts: Applcatons The sub-tems enable access to NAS extensons that are provded and mantaned by QNAP Systems, Inc. System settngs The sub-tems enable access to the NAS man functon settngs. Thrd-party provder applcatons The annexe contans a lst of applcatons that have been created and submtted by ndependent developers and approved by QNAP Systems, Inc. These applcatons can be nstalled va the App Center. Please understand that Fujtsu cannot be held lable for the content, functonalty and securty of these applcatons n any way. In the event of problems wth these applcatons, please contact the relevant developer drectly. 28 Fujtsu

35 Connectng to the NAS Control Panel / Openng applcatons Clck on Control Panel or one of the applcatons. A new wndow opens nsde the desktop area. When you open a thrd-party provder applcaton, a new browser wndow wll open nstead of a wndow nsde the desktop area Clck on the Help button n the top rght corner of the wndow for more nformaton on the relevant menu or applcaton. Clck to mnmse a wndow. You can maxmse the wndow agan later usng the task bar. Clck to maxmse a wndow. Clck to close a wndow. Fujtsu 29

36 Connectng to the NAS Accessng the NAS from Lnux In addton to operatng systems from Mcrosoft, the NAS also supports Lnux systems usng the NFS servce. In Lnux, run the followng command: mount -t nfs <NAS IP address>:/<network Share Name> <Drectory to Mount> For example, f the IP address of the NAS s and the lnk to the network share folder "publc" should be created n the /mnt/pub drectory, use the followng command: mount -t nfs :/publc /mnt/pub The above command can only be executed when logged n as "root". Log n wth the user name specfed prevously. The network share folder can be accessed va the mounted drectory. 30 Fujtsu

The memory pool (or storage pool) combnes drves n a larger memory space. The memory pool supports multple RAID groups (RAID: redundant array of ndependent backup dsks). Ths system provdes 'redundant' or duplcated data backup and reduces the rsk of data loss. Wth thn provsonng, memory space can be used more effcently. Users can dynamcally add or expand capacty as requred, n order to use the memory for the ntended applcatons. Data can be coped drectly from an external drve to the NAS or vce versa by pressng the onetouch copy button on the front of the devce. To use ths functon, follow the steps below: QR806 Make sure a hard dsk has been nstalled and formatted n the NAS. Ths wll create the USB standard network share. Swtch on the NAS. Confgure the functon of the one-touch copy button on the page Backup - USB One Touch Copy. Connect the USB drve (e.g. dgtal camera or flash drve) to the front USB port on the NAS. Press the one-touch copy button. Data wll be coped to the NAS accordng to the prevously defned settngs = USB = One-touch copy button Fujtsu 49

56 Copyng data usng the front USB port! Ths functon performs an ncremental backup. After the frst tme data backup, the NAS only copes the fles that have changed snce the last backup. If there are several parttons on the source storage devce, a new folder for each partton s created on the target devce as a backup folder. The backup folder s named after the backup date and partton number, YYYYMMDD-1 at partton 1, YYYYMMDD-2 at partton 2, etc. If the source storage devce only contans one partton, the backup folder s smply named YYYYMMDD. Fles are coped from the source to the target. Extra fles at the target are deleted; fles wth the same name are overwrtten by the source. The source data remans unchanged. 50 Fujtsu

57 Web Server Web Server The NAS can be used to upload web pages, wth the Web Server functon provdng a convenent way to manage a webste. Interactve webstes usng Joomla!, PHP, and SQLte are also supported. Actvate the Web Server functon and enter the port number n Control Panel Applcatons - Web Server. Web pages can be uploaded to the web folder usng the followng methods: Usng Samba: Open a web browser and enter \\[NAS IP]\Web or \\[NAS Name]\Web. Log n to the folder and upload the web pages. By FTP: Log n to the FTP servce and upload the web pages to the folder. Usng Web Fle Manager: Log n to the Web Fle Manager and upload the web pages to the folder. The fle ndex.html, ndex.htm, or ndex.php wll be the home page of the webste. Clck the IP]/ lnk on the Web Server page to access the web pages that were uploaded. 58 Web Server MySQL admnstraton As a MySQL admnstraton tool, t s recommended that you nstall the phpmyadmn plugn from the App Center. When the frmware s updated n future, phpmyadmn wll not be re-nstalled and none of the data n the database wll be overwrtten or changed. The phpmyadmn program fles are created n the Qweb share folders. It s possble to change the folder names and to access the database by enterng the URL n the browser. The lnk on the Web management nterface wll not change however. The default user name for MySQL s "root". The password s "admn". Please change the root password mmedately after loggng n through the phpmyadmn admnstraton nterface. SQLte admnstraton The SQLteManager s a multlngual, web-based tool for the admnstraton of SQLte databases. You can download t at Please follow the steps below or refer to the INSTALL fle n the SQLteManager-*.tar.gz download to nstall SQLteManager. Extract the SQLteManager-*.tar.gz download fle. Requrements for the use of Qsync Ensure that the network servceqsync s actvated on your NAS. Create NAS user accounts. Install the Qsyncutlty on your computer. InstallCELVIN NAS Explorer on your moble devce. Log on on the NAS from your computer or moble devce (Qsync Clents). Create a user account on the NAS To create a user account for Qsync users, proceed as follows: As a NAS admnstrator: Create a user account n the admnstraton area of the NAS under Control Panel - Prvleges - User - Create user account. Every NAS user account s automatcally aqsync user account. As a NAS user: Contact your system admnstrator so that they can create an account for you. Install Qsync utlty The Qsync utlty synchronses all selected data on your computers and moble devces. Installaton on computers: Install the Qsync utlty wth the product CD. Start usng Qsync To open the localqsync folder, double clck on the Qsync shortcut on the desktop. Clck on the Qsync symbol n the task bar to show the menu. Copy or drag your fles nto the local Qsync folder. The fles are coped to your other devces whch you use Qsync wth. On moble devces (CELVIN NAS Explorer): Copy and drag fles nto the Qsync folder. On NAS (web-based fle explorer): Copy and drag the fles va Fle Staton. In the case of the web-based fle explorer t s also possble to drag and drop fles nto the Qsync folder. Qsync can transfer fles wth a sze of maxmum 50 GB n a LAN (Local Area Network). Qsync does not support access va SAMBA, FTP or AFP. Access fles va Fle Staton or Qsync. The app CELVIN NAS Explorer s only able to synchronse the fle lst and does not download the fles onto a moble devce. If you need the fles, you must download them. Offlne edtng You can search through and edt your fles offlne. As soon as your devce s onlne, Qsync automatcally synchronses the fles edted offlne. If a fle edted offlne has been edted from another devce or by another user n the meantme, an addtonal conflct fle s created durng synchronsaton. Fle sharng va download lnks By sendng fle download lnks, you can share fles n the Qsync folder wth people who haven't nstalled Qsync. On the computer: Rght clck on the fle you would lke to share. To share fles wth a group, proceed as follows: Requrements: Every group member must have a NAS user account. The Qsync utlty must be nstalled on all of the group members' devces. Rght clck on the folder you would lke to share. Select Share ths folder as team folder. Select users from the lst local users or doman users. All group members receve an nvtaton to fle sharng. Once they have accepted, group members can access the folder. The folder only becomes a team folder after the nvtatons have been accepted. Team folder users cannot share ther access further. You can fnd a lst of compatble IP cameras at Prepare IP camera Create a plan of your home or offce network before startng the survellance system set-up. Check the followng nformaton: The IP address of the NAS The IP address of the camera The IP address of the computer The IP address of the router Requrements: The NAS, the camera, your computer and the router are correctly connected to each other. To confgure settngs clck onopen. Log n wth the user admn and the correspondng password (admn). A maxmum of two USB webcams can be used at the same tme per NAS Set up Survellance Staton To confgure the IP cameras log on to Survellance Staton Pro va a web browser. Go to Camera Settngs - Camera Confguraton. Enter the IP camera nformaton, e.g. name, model and IP address. If you want to use further cameras you can add further camera channels. QNAP Systems, Inc provdes ths servce. In the app, navgate to the feld PAK - Lcense Manager - Install Lcense. Add the PAK to the feld Make sure that the NAS s connected to the nternet. As soon as the camera lcence s actvated, you can set up the other cameras as descrbed under "Set up Survellance Staton". As soon as you have actvated the PAK wth your NAS, the PAK s connected wth the hardware dentfcaton (UDI) of your NAS. You can then no longer use the same PAK for a dfferent NAS. 73 Frmware update Frmware update! When updatng the frmware, the mans power and network connecton must not be dsturbed. Do not swtch the NAS off durng a frmware update under any crcumstances. If the system s runnng properly, then there s no need to update the frmware. Before updatng the system frmware, make sure the product model and frmware verson are correct. Follow the steps below to update the frmware: Please vst and read the release notes for the new frmware verson to check f t s necessary to update the frmware. Before updatng the system frmware, back up all data stored on the hard dsk to avod any data beng lost durng the system update. Open the Admnstrator screen and select Control Panel Update Frmware Update Frmware. Clck Browse to select the new frmware mage for the system update. Select the correspondng IMG fle and then clck on Update system to update the frmware. The system update may take anywhere from a number of seconds to several mnutes to complete, dependng on the network connecton status. Please be patent. 74 Frmware update Updatng the system frmware usng Fujtsu Fnder The system frmware can be updated usng Fujtsu Fnder. Choose the NAS model and select Update Frmware from the Tools menu. Log on as an admnstrator. Browse to select the correct frmware for the NAS. Clck Start to update the system. Fujtsu Fnder can be used to update all servers of the same model on the same local network. Please note that ths process requres admnstrator access to all the servers to be updated. 68 Fujtsu

75 NAS mantenance NAS mantenance Shuttng down/rebootng the server Follow the steps below to shut down or reboot the server: Log nto the NAS. Clck on the user name you used to log n (e.g. "admn") n the upper rght secton of the screen. Clck Restart to reboot the server. Select Shutdown to swtch off the devce. You can force the shutdown f the server wll not shut down n the normal way.! Forcng a shutdown may damage the fle system and lead to data loss. To force a shutdown of the server, press and hold down the ON/OFF button for at least 10 seconds. The server wll beep once and then shut down mmedately. The Fujtsu Fnder can be used to restart or shut down the server (admn access requred). Fujtsu 69

76 NAS mantenance Resettng the admnstrator password and network settngs To reset the admnstrator password and NAS network settngs, proceed as follows: Press and hold the Reset button on the NAS for 3 seconds. A beep wll be heard. Ths wll reset the followng settngs to ther defaults: System admnstraton password: admn TCP/IP confguraton: Obtan IP address settngs automatcally va DHCP TCP/IP confguraton: Dsable Jumbo Frame TCP/IP confguraton: If port trunkng s enabled (dual LAN models only), the port trunkng mode wll be reset to Actve Backup (Falover). System Port: 8080 (system servce port) Securty Level: Low (Allow all connectons) LCD panel password: (blank) VLAN wll be dsabled Advanced system reset (10 sec) Press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds. Two beeps sound (after the thrd and tenth seconds). The NAS wll reset all the system settngs to default as t does by web-based system reset n Control Panel - System Settngs - Backup / Restore - Restore to Factory Default except all the data are reserved. The settngs such as the users, user groups, and the network share folders prevously created wll be cleared. To retreve the old data after the advanced system reset, create the same network share folders on the NAS and the data wll be accessble agan. Stop usng the NAS for any purpose and swtch t off. Contact techncal support. The NAS must be repared by a traned techncan. Never try to repar the NAS yourself. Power falure or abnormal shutdown Followng a power falure or mproper shutdown of the NAS, when the system s restarted t should normally restore to the same state t was n before the shutdown or power falure. If the system does not functon properly after the restart, please carry out the followng steps: If the system confguraton s lost due to the shut down or power falure, then reconfgure the system manually. In the event of abnormal operaton of the system, or f error messages are dsplayed, contact customer servces for techncal support. Abnormal system software behavour If the system software does not operate correctly, the NAS wll automatcally restart to restore normal operaton. If the system restarts contnuously, t may fal to resume normal operaton. Please contact techncal support mmedately n such cases. System temperature protecton When the system temperature exceeds 70 C (158 F), the system wll shut down automatcally to protect the hardware. Fujtsu 71

78 NAS mantenance Changng the power supply unt The CELVIN NAS server QR806 has two power supply unts whch are ndependent of each other ('redundant'). If one of the power supply unts s faulty, the NAS can contnue to be operated wthout nterruptons wth the operatonal power supply unt. The mages below show the CELVIN NAS QR = Power-on ndcator (LED) 4 = Button for mutng Operatng ndcators LED OFF YELLOW GREEN POWER SUPPLY STATUS No alternatng current at the power supply unts, alternatng current present / only 5V stand-by s present (power supply off) Falure of the power supply for the man output Output ON and OK Button for mutng the operatng alarm If a fault n the power supply unt s recognsed, the system wll emt audble sgnals to warn the admnstrator. Press the green lever n the drecton of the arrow and hold t n that poston. Remove the defectve power supply unt n the drecton of the arrow. Gude the new power supply unt nto the devce untl you hear t slot nto place. Swtch on the NAS.! The NAS can support the replacement of the redundant power supply unt whle the system s runnng. However, to reduce the danger of an electrc shock, we strongly recommend that you swtch off the NAS before replacng the power supply unt. Fujtsu 73

80 NAS mantenance Actvatng the alarm of the redundant power supply You can actvate an alarm of the redundant power supply on the web-based nterface. Ths functon s deactvated as the default settng. If only one power supply unt s nstalled n the NAS, we recommend that you do not actvate ths opton If two power supply unts are nstalled n the NAS and both are connected wth the mans connectons, both power supply unts wll provde the NAS wth power. Actvate the redundant power supply mode under System admnstraton - Hardware. The NAS wll emt an audble sgnal. If one of the power supply unts s dsconnected or fals, the NAS wll save the error messages under System Logs.! To avod the danger of an electrc shock, do not touch the nsde of the electrcal connectons at the rear (rsk of electrocuton!). 74 Fujtsu
