2 Part 1: Getting Started with SketchUp GETTING STARTED: Throughout this manual users will learn different tools and methods that focus on digital representation techniques using Google SketchUp 2014 and Google Earth. To begin users must have both software platforms installed on their computer. ( ( USER INTERFACE + PLATFORM: Opening the Software Select Choose Template >Select Simple Template Feet & Inches >Select Start using SketchUp Toolbars + Drawing Modeling Window Load Toolbar Set >View >Toolbars >Select Large Tool Set + Camera + Views Menu Toolbars Modeling Window Status Bar Value Control Box User Coordinate System [UCS] Drawing Axis / Origin Mouse Functions: 3D Orbit + Scroll In and Out

4 Part 2: Modeling in Three-Dimensions SYNOPSIS: In this part of the tutorial users will be introduced to Google Earth in conjunction with SketchUp. Using these tools users will be able to advance their technical skills and work towards becoming SketchUp experts! MODELING DIFFERENT ROOF TYPES: FOLLOW ME TOOL (ADDING REVEALS): USING LAYERS (CRITICAL to understand) (PART 1) USER COORDINATE SYSTEM [UCS] (PART 1) GROUPS VS. COMPONENTS (Re-cap) ADDING MATERIALS TO MODEL Solid Colors vs. Opacity GOOGLE EARTH AND SKETCHUP Using GE Imagery to Develop Massing Models: Are you working on a project in a real geographical location? SU + GE allows you to work in that specific location with GE maps and you can even view your model in GE! First we need to find our project location in GE >In SU select Add Location Grab >Use the Search feature, then click Select Region >Use the toggle grips to adjust as needed, the click >The 2D GE image will appear in the modeling window Use the image as reference for massing, terrain... Once your satisfied...you can view the model in GE >Select Preview Model in Google Earth

5 CREATING TERRAIN: Load the Terrain (Sandbox) Toolset (a little tricky!) >Windows >Preferences >Extensions >Select Sandbox Tools >Select OK Then... >View >Toolbars >Select Sanbox GOOGLE EARTH STREET VIEW Layers >Street View

6 Part 3: Visual Enhancements + Quantification SYNOPSIS: In this part of the tutorial users will advance their skills by learning how to add realism to their model with shadows, entourage, photographic images, etc. CREATING TERRAIN: Terrain can be created in two ways: >From Scratch and / or >From Contours ADDING REALISTIC SHADOWS TO YOUR MODEL: >View >Toolbar >Shadows VIEWING THE MODELS IN DIFFERENT WAYS (using the Styles): >Windows >Styles ADDING PHOTOGRAPHS TO MODELS >Select Paint Bucket >Select Create Material >Select Use Texture Image >Search for Image > OK >Paint on Desired Face of Model > Right Click on Painted Face >Select Texture >Select Position >Drag Red Pin to Corner of Model >Use Green Pin to Drag and Scale >Trace Outline of Building >Eliminate the Remainder of the Model ADDING ENTOURAGE TO YOUR SCENE (using the 3D Warehouse): >Select Get Models > Search and add trees, people...

7 SAVING VIEWS / SCENES: Is there a certain view that you want to save, but you have to move to fix the model? SU allows views to be saved... (This is a miracle tool and huge time saver!) > Windows > Scenes > Add Scenes (looks like a [+] sign) SCENE TO SCENE ANIMATION: Right Click Scene Tab Under Tool Bar >Play Animation EXPORT ANIMATION: >File >Export >Animation >Name File >Options [change resolution] >Export

8 Part 4: Presentation + Part 5: Animation SYNOPSIS: Congratulations, you are almost a master at using Google Earth and SketchUp! In this final tutorial each user will learn multiple methods of showcasing their design work. PRINTING YOUR SU + GE VIEWS: In SketchUp > File > Export > 2D Graphic > Options (change the pixel width and height, the greater the pixel - the better the quality) >Name File >Export In Google Earth > File > Save > Save Image (Ctrl+Alt+S) > Select Resolution > Name and Save VIEWING YOUR SU MODEL IN GE Are you working on a project in a real geographical location? SU + GE allows you to work in that specific location with GE maps and you can even view your model in GE! First we need to find our project location in GE >In SU select Add More Imagery Grab >Use the Search feature, then click Select Region >Use the toggle grips to adjust as needed, the click >The 2D GE image will appear in the modeling window Use the image as reference for massing, terrain... Once your satisfied...you can view the model in GE >Select Preview Model in Google Earth

9 SAVING MODEL AS.kmz FILES: In SU go to File > Export > 3D Model >Under Export Type, select Google Earth File (*.kmz) >Name the file >Click Export (it may take a few seconds) >Find the saved.kmz file and open it (it will open in GE) SAVING NEW.kmz in GE: >Right Click My Places > Add > Folder (Name the folder) Next - Add Layers >Drag layers into new folder Next - Saving the Folder >Right Click Folder Save As >Name the File and Save to Computer CREATING VIDEOS IN GE USING SU MODEL: What if a client wants to see an animation of the development in phases? No worries, this is simply! >Open Both SU and GE (Pro is needed!) >Be sure to open any.kmz files that you want in your animation. >In GE select Tools > Movie Maker >Change the Resolution and indicate where you want to save the animation. >Select Browse >Select Record >Now you are in the recording state... have fun and explore the possibilities. Turn on and off.kmz files, zoom in and out, etc. >Select Stop Recording and watch the animation Congratulations, you are now a master at SketchUp and Google Earth! Additional Resources:

Tool Operation Instructions Arc (A) Bulge specify bulge amount by typing a number and Enter Radius specify radius by typing a number, the R key, and Enter Segments specify number of segments by typing a number, the S key, and Enter Circle (C) Shift lock in current plane Radius specify radius by typing a number and Enter Segments specify number of segments by typing a number, the S key, and Enter Eraser (E) Ctrl soften/smooth (use on edges to make adjacent faces appear curved) Shift hide Ctrl+Shift unsoften/unsmooth Follow Me Alt use face perimeter as extrusion path Better Way first Select path, then choose the Follow Me tool, then click on the face to extrude Line (L) Shift lock in current inference direction Arrows up or down arrow to lock in blue direction; right to lock in red; left to lock in green Length specify length by typing a number and Enter Look Around Eye Height specify eye height by typing a number and Enter Move (M) Ctrl move a copy Shift hold down to lock in current inference direction Alt auto-fold (allow move even if it means adding extra edges and faces) Arrows up or down arrow to lock in blue direction; right to lock in red; left to lock in green Distance specify move distance by typing a number and Enter External Copy Array n copies in a row: move first copy, type a number, the X key, and Enter Internal Copy Array n copies in between: move first copy, type a number, the / key, and Enter Offset (F) Double-Click apply last offset amount to this face Distance specify an offset distance by typing a number and Enter Orbit (O) Ctrl hold down to disable gravity-weighted orbiting Shift hold down to activate Pan tool Paint Bucket (B) Ctrl paint all matching adjacent faces Shift paint all matching faces in the model Ctrl+Shift paint all matching faces on the same object Alt hold down to sample material Push/Pull (P) Ctrl push/pull a copy of the face (leaving the original face in place) Double-Click apply last push/pull amount to this face Distance specify a push/pull amount by typing a number and Enter Rectangle (R) Dimensions specify dimensions by typing length, width and Enter ie. 20,40 Rotate (Q) Ctrl rotate a copy Angle specify an angle by typing a number and Enter Slope specify an angle as a slope by typing a rise, a colon (:), a run, and Enter ie. 3:12 Scale (S) Ctrl hold down to scale about center Shift hold down to scale uniformly (don t distort) Amount specify a scale factor by typing a number and Enter ie. 1.5 = 150% Length specify a scale length by typing a number, a unit type, and Enter ie. 10m Select (Spacebar) Ctrl add to selection Shift add/subtract from selection Ctrl+Shift subtract from selection Tape Measure (T) Ctrl create a new Guide Arrows up or down arrow to lock in blue direction; right to lock in red; left to lock in green Resize resize model: measure a distance, type intended size, and Enter Zoom (Z) Shift hold down and click-drag mouse to change Field of View 2014 Trimble
