3 SL-G Series Wire EDM Features Performance High Quality Design Based on the latest digital innovations in generator technologies and the use of advanced electrode materials, the new SL-G range demonstrates considerable advances in cutting speed, accuracy and surface finish. This achievement was made possible through 15 years of linear motor experience. U-Axis Z-Axis V-Axis 15 Years of Linear Motor Experience Rigid Linear Motor Drives Sodick currently manufactures and delivers only linear motor driven machines. Over 30,000 linear motor driven machines have been delivered worldwide, proving the unrivalled reliability of Sodick's own rigid linear motor technology. Sodick rigid linear motors have the optimum rigid flat design. The machine castings support the linear motor to achieve ideal linear performance, the ultimate design for precision machining. Meehanite Construction Rigid Cast Construction The machine cast construction is made from Meehanite, which is designed with heavily ribbed sections to provide superior long term rigidity and stability. The surfaces to which the linear guide-ways are mounted are scraped by hand to ensure a perfectly flat surface and outstanding machine geometry. The X and Y Axes are independent masses (not a compound slide design). The table has movement in the X-axis only with the Y-axis movement supplied by the lower arm and ram; therefore, geometry is not compromised. X-Axis Y-Axis Mechanical Redesign Stable Platform and Environment To capitalize on the advances of the digital Smart Pulse Generator and Sodick's rigid linear motor system, a new mechanical design is incorporated into the SL-G Series. This new design resulted in a compact and fully enclosed machine tool which uses the latest CNC interface with a 19 inch touch screen color control. Economic Production Smart Pulse Generator The Smart Pulse Generator reduces the number of cuts necessary to achieve the required accuracy and surface finish. This reduction in time translates directly into a financial advantage. Enhanced Operability Absolute Linear Scale With the use of Heidenhain s ultra-precision absolute linear scale, which is the industry standard, the start-up origin shift operation is not required. This enables the operability of the machine to be further enhanced and saves the user time during start-up. Lightweight and Highly Rigid Design Ceramic Work-Zone Ceramics have many advantages; lightweight, high rigidity, thermal stability (which is three times better than cast iron and steel) and are corrosion-free. The machine workzone s; work table stand, AWT upper and lower arms are made out of ceramic. Similar to those used in coordintate measuring machines. Dielectric Tank and Working Area 3 Sided Rise/Fall Worktank The interior of the tank is made from stainless steel for quick maintenance (unpainted). A contact supply of water flows over the moving elements at the rear of the tank and around the rear lower arm seal ensuring debris is not permitted to build-up. The dielectric water level is automatically managed by the upper guide position. The 3-sided automatic tank door allows easy access to the worktable.
4 Technology Sodick Offers Safe, Reliable, Energy-Saving and Eco-Friendly Technology Advanced Control CNC Smart Control - SPW The new Sodick Control SPW (Smart Pulse Wire) has many attractive features, from the use of the industry standard Windows 7 operating system, to an enhanced 19 inch TFT multi touch screen, which operates like a tablet. The operation screen can be switched between the traditional screen and the new tablet style screen. Additionally, the screen layouts can be customized by the operator to suit their working preferences. The NC programs are supported with 2D and 3D graphics. Maintenance screens show the status of the machine and remote access is possible for maintenance and supervision. Digital Pika-W Plus Super Finishing Circuit Sodick has introduced Digital Pika Technology that enables better than 6 RMS minimize machining energy and control the discharge spark with digital pulse, resulting in the best surface finish possible, which significantly reduces, and in some cases, completely eliminates the need for subsequent polishing and other finishing operations. Advanced Stepped Machining Sodick s DSF (Dynamic Shape Fast) function automatically detects the thickness of the workpiece and calculates the optimum machining settings from rough machining to finishing for every thickness, avoiding the need for complicated programming, resulting in reliable machining for stepped parts. High Precision Positioning Sensor FT-II Using the wire itself to locate the part, the machine automatically initiates a measuring cycle to register the part position (size) and angular orientation to the axes. The positioning accuracy is crucial for the quality of machining. Easier Maintenance and Work Preparation Three Part Filtration System Enhancing filtration capacity makes high speed and accurate machining easy to achieve. The filters can even be changed during machining. The system also includes an isolation switch that enables the ability to change the deionizer during machining. The integral dielectric cooling unit is also standard on the SL-G Series machines. Cleaning Function Slide Plate Lubrication The life cycle of the sealing portion of the slide plate can be extended since the machine features a cleaning function for the slide plate. This leads to a reduction of maintenance time and stable high speed machining performance. 3D CAD Files Intelligent Q 3 vic EDW Itelligent Q 3 vic EDW technology allows the importation of 3D CAD files and is standard with the SL-G Series. This automatic programming system detects the profile of a workpiece that can be machined with Wire EDM and extracts the machining contour. Significant savings in programming hours are possible thanks to this advanced software. Developed in California Sodick Motion Controller The Sodick Motion Controller (K-SMC), accurately controls the high-speed and precise linear motor drive movements through commands from the NC unit. The K-SMC was heavily researched and developed to bring about new technical innovations to electrical discharge machining. Developed in Silicon Valley, CA, the K-SMC accurately controls high-speeds, rapid acceleration and precise positioning. Wire Tension Servo The SL-G Series is equipped with a wire tension servo to continually monitor and regulate wire tension and adjust the servo motor current, which makes stable high precision machining possible. The wire tension is controlled by the Sodick Motion Controller and is also used for controlling the linear motors to gain even more accurate and fine adjustments of the wire. Superior Threading FJ AWT (Fixed Jet Automatic Wire Threader) The FJ AWT system allows submerged and non-submerged threading. Combining thermal wire cut for a straighter wire and a new waterjet function, the reliability of the Sodick AWT system has been improved. The exclusive use of closed guides on the compact SL-G Series of machines in combination with the FJ AWT enhances productivity. The automatic threading of the wire takes less than 9 seconds and is possible during immersion - this helps to reduce idle time. If breakage of the wire does occur during machining, the machine re-cuts the wire using the annealing process and disposes of the unwanted wire-tip and rethreads the wire. Pop-Up Search Function In the event that the wire does not go through the start hole or kerf, the wire is automatically lifted and fed again. These actions are repeated until the wire is successfully thread. This is especially effective for threading through small start holes or on workpieces with curved/inclined surfaces.
5 Smart Pulse Technology The processing performance of SL-G Series Wire EDM machines has significantly improved in all areas due to the synergistic effect of combining linear motor drive technology and the latest discharge control technology with the Smart Pulse power supply. Sodick has achieved a 50% increase in the 1st processing speed with a straightness error "bow-belly" amount of SAMPLES Big Reduction in 1st cut Straightness Error "Bow- Belly" Amount SL-G machines feature higher speeds and higher accuracy cutting. Cutting speed, surface roughness and the straightness error "bowbelly" amount have all been significantly improved. Straightness Error Bow-Belly Amount Steel 3.94 (100 mm) 56 minutes 32% Cutting Time Reduction In cutting precision fitting parts with 3.94 (100 mm) thickness, Sodick has achieved the following; improved cutting speed, reduced cutting frequency, improved part accuracy and improved surface quality. Surface Roughness 41% Cutting Time Reduction Due to the higher speeds and accuracy associated with linear motors when machining rough cuts, the processing of fitting parts, which previously required three passes, can now be achieved in just two.
