CHAPTER 1 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP LaMa Overview This chapter presents the following topics: Executive summary...10 Product overview EMC Storage Integrator for SAP LaMa Overview 9

EMC Storage Integrator for SAP LaMa Overview Executive summary EMC TM Storage Integrator (ESI) for SAP Landscape Management (LaMa) is an adapter for SAP LaMa. ESI for SAP LaMa has the following main components: ESI adapter (or ESI plug-in). EMC High-Level Storage (HLS) Administration Console (EHAC) server, which is the single point of management for storage administrators. The EHAC server contains the ESI deployment utility, the ESI web service, and the EHAC configuration console. EMC Storage Library for SAP LaMa, which is distributed in the EMC Solutions Enabler product. You can use EHAC to: Manage VMware vcenter servers Manage storage area network (SAN) storage, such as EMC VNX TM, EMC VMAX TM, and EMC VMAX3 TM arrays, and EMC XtremIO TM all-flash arrays Manage network-attached-storage (NAS), such as VMAX3 enas and VNX file storage Manage EMC VPLEX TM systems Assign storage systems and their pools to users Provide a gateway for the ESI adapter to access storage systems Using EHAC, administrators can manage storage space assigned to individual users by controlling read/write access to the storage pools for each storage system. The ESI for SAP LaMa adapter provides storage management capabilities within SAP LaMa and enables SAP administrators to manage clones and snapshots of an SAP system that is managed by SAP LaMa and is running on EMC storage. The adapter supports the following: SAP systems in both physical and virtual environments based on XtremIO 4.0, VMAX3, VMAX, and VNX storage arrays, and VPLEX 5.5 storage systems, using Virtual Machine Disks (VMDKs) or physical raw device mapping (prdms) VCE Vblock and VCE VxBlock converged systems using XtremIO, VNX, VMAX, and VMAX3 storage arrays IBM PowerVM server virtualization with AIX operating systems Heterogeneous VPLEX storage environments are not supported and SAP instances must either be fully on VPLEX or on direct storage. Product overview The ESI adapter is distributed as a Java Enterprise Archive (EAR) file that complies with SAP LaMa specifications. The adapter, which is shown in the following figure, runs as an application that is deployed inside the SAP NetWeaver Java Stack where the SAP LaMa add-on is already installed. The ESI adapter communicates frequently with the EHAC server to manage one or more EMC file or block storage systems and provides users with access controls to 10 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Administrator Guide

EMC Storage Integrator for SAP LaMa Overview use these storage systems from the SAP LaMa storage interface. This enables storage provisioning as part of the following SAP LaMa processes: System Clone, System Copy, System Refresh, and System Destroy. 13 CHAPTER 2 Prerequisites This chapter presents the following topic: System prerequisites VPLEX configuration prerequisites Prerequisites 13

Prerequisites System prerequisites Before you deploy the EHAC appliance, verify that the Dell EMC storage arrays that you plan to use are zoned and masked correctly to the SAP systems to be part of the SAP LaMa system provisioning processes. The EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Release s provides detailed environment and system requirements and a complete list of operating systems that you can use for different types of storage. For information on how to install EMC Solutions Enabler, refer to the Solutions Enabler documentation page on Dell EMC Online Support. EMC SMI-S Array Provider 8.3 uses an ECOM account. This SMI-S version can be used to manage VMAX and VMAX3 storage systems. For information about how to install EMC SMI-S Provider, refer to the SMI-S Provider page on Dell EMC Online Support. SMI-S Provider is the latest supported version for VNX block storage. Install the following snapshot and clone licenses on the corresponding storage arrays: EMC VNX Snapshot Enabler and a SAN Copy license for VNX arrays EMC TimeFinder TM /Snap and TimeFinder/Clone license for VMAX arrays For SMI-S Provider, set the SMI-S (ECOM) job.deleteoncompletion property to True, which avoids having leftover jobs in the SMI-S Provider queue. Also increase the job.deletion.oncompletion.timeout value to keep the job completed for a long time. Verify the following settings in the OSLSProvider.conf file in <ECOM_Installation_Directory>/ Providers: Deletion of the jobs after their successful completion: OSLSProvider/ com.emc.cmp.osls.se.symm.session.storageconfiguration.job.del eteoncompletion = True Amount of minutes to wait before job removal: OSLSProvider/ com.emc.cmp.osls.se.symm.session.storageconfiguration.job.tim ebeforedeletion = :000 System prerequisites 15

Prerequisites Amount of time (sec) to wait for the SMI-S triggered replication OSLSProvider/ com.emc.cmp.osls.se.symm.replicationservice.totalwaittime = Configuring the EHAC Server provides details for installing and configuring virtual hosts. VPLEX configuration prerequisites Use the following prerequisites for VPLEX storage systems: Only one initiator port should belong to one storage view. The initiator ports that you add and use in one storage view should be unique and not added or reused for any other views. When you add a new initiator to the VPLEX environment, you must register the initiator in VPLEX and add it to a VPLEX storage view before it can be used. Do not manually change the name of the cloned virtual volume. Do not manually add the cloned virtual volume to other views separate from the target host views. Do not populate the host VMDK mount point in SAP LaMa that is on the host internal storage. Populate only the mount points that are on Dell EMC storage arrays. SAP mount points are recognized by ESI only when they are carved from Dell EMC storage arrays. Mount points carved from the virtual machine's internal storage are not handled by ESI for SAP LaMa. When using VPLEX virtual systems: Ensure that virtual volumes have one-to-one VPLEX element constraints and that all volumes come from a single VPLEX system. Do not combine volumes from two VPLEX systems. A single SAP instance cannot span multiple VPLEX systems; all volumes must come from a single VPLEX Local or VPLEX Metro system. Create each VPLEX Metro distributed virtual volume or local volume using a single device that completely uses the claimed storage volume. Distributed virtual volumes must be of equal size. The mirror of each virtual volume (local or distributed) must lie entirely on one back-end array volume. The back-end array volumes corresponding to each mirror must be the exact size of the virtual volume. When you add a new initiator to the VPLEX environment, you must first register the initiator in VPLEX and add it to a VPLEX storage view before it can be used. Register at least one initiator on each cluster. For VPLEX systems, you can register initiators either through a command-line interface or through EMC Unisphere TM for VPLEX. 16 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Administrator Guide

Prerequisites If you have a VPLEX cross-connected host bus adapter (HBA) to remove, unregister the initiators on the cluster that uses the HBA. Create storage views on the cluster where target hosts reside. An administrator must manually create storage views for the target hosts that are used in cloning before a clone is attempted. When a clone of a virtual volume is created by ESI, it will be visible on the target host only after it is automatically added to a view containing the target host s initiators. Ensure that the target hosts for the clone reside on the same cluster as the local virtual volume. If the local volume has two mirrors, then the cloned local volume will have only one mirror. If the VPLEX virtual volume is distributed, then the cloned VPLEX virtual volume is a distributed virtual volume. The target host can reside anywhere on cluster1 or on cluster2. If the distributed volume has three mirrors, then the cloned distributed volumes will have only two mirrors with one on each cluster. The cloned virtual volume will also have two mirrors one mirror on an array attached to cluster1 and the other mirror on an array attached to cluster2. Clone only if the virtual volume is in an OK state and if the source virtual volume has a valid mirror residing on the same side as the target host. The mirror that resides on the cluster for which the target host has visibility plays a critical role in the cloning. Before cloning can proceed, this mirror must be in an OK state. The snap clone and manage snapshot operations are not supported for VPLEX. System Clone and System Copy, using the Provision New Host option, are not supported in SAP systems that use VPLEX storage. Run TestSmisProvider, which is available in <ECOM_installation_Directory>/ bin<ecom_installation_directory>/bin, to perform a discovery. 3. Run the TestSmisProvider display version option. Storage administrators must configure a Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) infrastructure, called the EMC CIM Object Manager (ECOM) account, and set the administrator role to allow full access. For detailed information about ECOM, see the ECOM Deployment and Configuration Guide, which is available on Dell EMC Online Support. EHAC includes the EHAC_DeploymentConsole_ESISAPLVM.jar file and the esi_sap_lvm_saconfig.4.6.x.x.ear file for the web service. Configuring the database and updating the JBoss configuration files As part of configuring EHAC, you can configure the database and update the JBoss configuration files. Procedure 1. Download the EHAC_DeploymentConsole_ESISAPLVM.jar file from the Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management page on Dell EMC Online Support. 2. Double-click EHAC_DeploymentConsole_ESISAPLaMa.jar. 3. In the Configuration Utility, click Configure Server. 4. Click Download to download the JCE files from the Oracle website. 5. In the Downloaded (Unzipped) Location of the JCE files field, click Select to select the downloaded JCE files in the displayed location. If you are deploying EHAC for the first time, select the downloaded JCE files and also click Configure JCE Files. This replaces the local_policy.jar and the US_export_policy.jar files in the %JAVA_HOME%\jre\lib \security folder. You will receive a Configured JCE Files Successfully message to confirm the JCE configuration. 36 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Administrator Guide

Configuring the EHAC Server 6. In the JBOSS Location field, type the location where JBoss is installed or click Select and browse to find the location. You can click Check Whether Configured to confirm whether JBoss is already configured. You will receive a JBoss is already configured message if JBoss is configured. 7. Select Configure using Remote Database Backup if the JBoss Server needs to be configured using a remote database backup. Configuring JBoss by restoring from a database backup provides detailed instructions. 8. Type the applicable database name. 9. If you selected Configure using Remote Database Backup, then type the absolute path of the Remote Database backup directory. 10. In the Path Where Database needs to be created field, type the applicable path or click Select to choose a path. 11. Copy the Java EAR file named esi_sap_lvm_saconfig.4.6.x.x.ear into the <Jboss Installation path>/standalone/deployments folder. 12. Click Configure. After the configuration is complete, esi_sap_lvm_saconfig.4.6.x.x.ear is ready to be deployed. Configuring JBoss by restoring from a database backup You can use the following instructions to configure the JBoss server from an existing database backup in case of any failure of the current system. The instructions restore the database from the remote location to the local database directory and configure the JBoss server using the database, but have the following limitations: The backup can be taken on the system where the source EHAC process (with an embedded Derby database) was running. For example, if EHAC was running on a Windows server, then the host where the Derby database is restored later must also be on a Windows server. Some information may be lost from the time after the last backup was performed to the time when the current EHAC system failed. Use these instructions on a separate host where you want to restore the Derby database backup. Restore and configure a database from a remote network share, as shown in the following figure. Configuring JBoss by restoring from a database backup 37

Configuring the EHAC Server Procedure 1. Start the EHAC Deployment Console from the Deployment console jar. 2. Select the Configure using Remote Database Backup checkbox to configure the database from an existing backup on a remote network share. 3. Type the Database Name. 4. In the Path where Remote backup is located field, type the absolute path of the remote path of the database backup. 80 Managing User Accounts Figure 57 Revoking user access to an XtremIO array Securing user data EHAC safeguards sensitive information by requiring WBEM server passwords and control station passwords for NAS arrays. However, to further reduce the risk of attacks, do the following: Close your browser when the administration console is not in use to prevent access by unauthorized users. Lock the server if you leave it unattended. Secure the EHAC server in the same way as any other server with sensitive information. Set up a strong password when you log in to EHAC for the first time. This password must be used each time you log in to EHAC. Create an ESI for LaMa user on vsphere vcenter and EMC storage systems with administrator privileges to allow tracking in case errors occur. 80 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Administrator Guide

CHAPTER 8 Utilities This chapter presents the following topics: Using logs to monitor the system...82 Backing up and restoring an Apache Derby database Collecting SRM, ViClient, and SAPACOSPREP logs Utilities 81

Utilities Using logs to monitor the system ESI for SAP LaMa uses logs to monitor the operation of the system. This enables system administrators and EMC Support engineers to troubleshoot issues that users may encounter. While configuring and deploying EHAC, you can also configure logging to monitor the operation of the system. Because no logs can be kept on the SAP LaMa servers, both EHAC and the ESI LaMa adapter store logs on the EHAC server using the same logging facility. The following information is collected: Java Thread Dump Collector logs JBOSS and EHAC Web Service logs EMC SMI-S Provider logs In case of error, review the logs in the log folder that you specified while configuring EHAC. If users encounter issues, the storage administrator can retrieve the logs from the EHAC server to which the user might not have access. From the EHAC Configuration Utility, you can click Collect Logs to create a Zip file that contains logs that are generated by ESI. EMC Support may request these logs to troubleshoot issues. Configuring logs provides details. Collect log files: Procedure 1. From the Administrator box on the right side of the page, select Utilities, as shown in the following figure. Figure 58 Selecting Administrator > Utilities 2. Click Collect JBOSS, ESI, SMI-S Logs. 3. Click either Open or Save the ESI_LOGS.zip file, as shown in the following figure. 82 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Administrator Guide

Utilities Figure 59 Selecting a utility Backing up and restoring an Apache Derby database The Apache Derby database runs as an in-memory database within EHAC. The database holds critical information about user-to-storage access mappings, storage array details, and runtime information that can be used to correct SAP LaMa. For data writes, data might be lost if a user loses the host where EHAC, with the Derby database, is running. If data is lost during a data write, the user loses all data, and the data cannot be recreated. The Derby database backup and restore utility enables administrators to initiate backups of the Derby database on remote network file shares and to restore the data on a new host. To help prevent critical data loss, the administrator must only install EHAC components on a different host and restore database data through the backed up copy of data files. This utility is critical for ESI for SAP LaMa with VPLEX because most data for VPLEX operations persists in the Derby database. The utility is always available when the JBoss Application Server is running. To use this utility, ensure that the following requirements are met: Users must have complete access privileges to place the backup of the Derby database and to restore the database to any system. The network share must be accessible from both source and target hosts. The database backup must not be run while you are performing any other SAP LaMa operations, as this will result in data inconsistency in the backup. Configure and deploy the Derby database backup and restore utility. Procedure 1. From the Administrator tab on the right side of the page, select Utilities. 2. Click Database Backup Utility. 3. In the Configure Database Backup Properties pane, type the Path of Remote Directory backup. 4. Type the Time to start backup in hours. For example, as shown in the following figure, type 23 for a backup time of 23 hours. Use a decimal for times that are less than one hour. Backing up and restoring an Apache Derby database 83

CHAPTER 9 Troubleshooting This chapter presents the following topics: Troubleshooting Manually cleaning up VMAX storage after a failed clone, copy, or machine refresh Automatically cleaning up storage after a clone fails VPLEX limitations...97 Troubleshooting 87

Troubleshooting Troubleshooting The following table provides troubleshooting information for ESI for SAP LaMa. Table 5 Troubleshooting Symptom Even after you assign the XtremIO array to a user, the array details do not appear in the home page. At Storage Systems > SAN > Storage Pools, trying to retrieve pools fails. EHAC Configuration Utility fails to start correctly or there are errors in the JBoss console. 404 not found error appears when you try to access the EHAC URL. Prevention, resolution, or workaround Do the following: Verify that the GlobalAccessLevel for the XtremIO array was changed to Read- Write. If the level was not changed, change it to Read-Write and then assign the array to a user in the Access Control tab The issue occurs because the array was not registered to EHAC. Do the following: Click Access Control > Block > WBEM Storage > Grant. Select the WBEM and click Retrieve to view all storage systems. Select the storage system and click Add. After you have added the array to the EHAC database, you can access the Storage Pools page to retrieve the needed information. Do the following: Ensure that EHAC is configured. Configuring JBoss by restoring from a database backup provides details. Ensure that the user has full read/write control to the JBoss directory. Ensure that the user has permission to create the database in the specified directory. Ensure that the user has permission to start and stop JBoss. Do the following: Ensure that the EHAC web service is configured. Configuring JBoss by restoring from a database backup provides details. Ensure that the JBoss is running. Ensure that the JBoss port is not used by any other service. 88 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Administrator Guide

Troubleshooting Table 5 Troubleshooting (continued) Symptom You cannot access EHAC from another server. You cannot add a WBEM server. Prevention, resolution, or workaround Ensure that both the outbound and inbound ports of JBoss are open in the firewall. Do the following: Ensure that the WBEM server host name, port number, connection schema, and user credentials are all valid. Ensure that the WBEM server is accessible from EHAC. Ensure that the WBEM server is running. EMC SMI-S Provider documentation provides more information. You cannot remove a WBEM server. Do the following: Ensure that the WBEM server is accessible from the EHAC web service. Ensure that the WBEM server is running. You cannot add a storage system. Do the following: Ensure that the storage system credentials are valid. For file storage systems, ensure that the storage system is accessible from the EHAC server. For block storage systems: Ensure that the storage system is managed by a WBEM server. Ensure that the WBEM server is added to EHAC. Ensure that SP_A and SP_B information is valid. Storage system is not available. Users are suddenly unable to access EHAC. Check to see whether the storage system has been removed from the WBEM server. Do the following: Ensure that JBoss is still responsive. JBoss can become unresponsive during periods of inactivity. Restart JBoss. You cannot create an admin user. Do the following: Ensure that latest derby.jar file was used in the deployment utility. Download Troubleshooting 89

Troubleshooting Table 5 Troubleshooting (continued) Symptom Prevention, resolution, or workaround the latest file if an older one was used in the deployment utility. Also ensure that the JCE policies are copied to the following location or path: C:\Program Files\Java \jdk1.7.0_51\jre\lib\security After the EHAC appliance is deployed, WBEM-related operations fail. After the EHAC appliance is deployed, storage systems zoned to the host in EHAC cannot be added. When EHAC retrieves storage pools, an error occurs at Storage Arrays > SAN > WBEM Managed Systems > Storage Pools. ECOM may not be started on the appliance. The ECOM executable file is located in the Solutions Enabler /opt/emc/ecim/ ECOM/bin directory. Run the /ECOM -d command from this directory to restart ECOM. Do the following: Verify that the prdm gatekeeper devices are installed according to SMI-S recommendations. Navigate to /opt/emc/ecim/ ECOM/bin/TestSmisProvider and run a disco command to discover the arrays. The issue occurs because the array was not added to the database. To correct this problem, navigate to Access Control, select the array, and click Add to database. After you add the array to the EHAC database on the Storage Pools page, EHAC retrieves the required information. EHAC deployment fails while being restored from a backup database. Multiple NAS mount points from the same file system are not supported. Do the following: Ensure that the remote database backup directory path is correct, because the deployment console does not have provisioning to provide user credentials to access the remote network share. Ensure that the remote database backup path is accessible outside the deployment console, and that the required credentials are displayed. For SAP systems with NAS mount points, you must have 1:1 mapping between the NAS file system and the NFS export on the array. 90 EMC Storage Integrator for SAP Landscape Management Administrator Guide

Troubleshooting Table 5 Troubleshooting (continued) Symptom Prevention, resolution, or workaround Configure individual file systems for each NAS mount point because the same file system cannot be mounted as different mount points. Manually cleaning up VMAX storage after a failed clone, copy, or machine refresh Use the following procedure to manually clean up VMAX storage after a clone, copy, or machine refresh operation fails, as shown in the following figure. This can occur in the post-process clone volumes step when you select Full Clones. Figure 63 Viewing a failed system clone in SAP LaMa Procedure 1. Create the cleanup_clone.sh script as follows: ecc-db-tgt:/usr/scripts # cat cleanup_clone.sh /opt/emc/symcli/bin/symclone -f pair -sid 6351 query /opt/emc/symcli/bin/symclone -f pair -sid 6351 terminate -nop /opt/emc/symcli/bin/symclone -f pair -sid 6351 query ecc-db-tgt:/usr/scripts # ll -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 168 Apr 8 16:18 cleanup_clone.sh 2. 97 Troubleshooting Figure 68 Configuring EMC SMI-S timeout values to prevent a cloning failure Automatically cleaning up storage after a clone fails You can use the residue cleanup procedure to clean up storage after a clone volumes process fails or after the post-process clone volumes process fails. If the clone volumes process fails, all of the residue created on the array is cleaned up. If the post-process clone volumes process fails, the following cleanup is performed: All LUNS are cleaned up on the array created for a distributed virtual volume. All VPLEX virtual volumes are cleaned up. Clones are cleaned up based on the array type: For VNX arrays, all clones are cleaned up. For VMAX arrays, no clones are cleaned up. Refer to Configuring residue cleanup for details on how to configure residue cleanup. VPLEX limitations VPLEX storage systems have the following limitations: One initiator port should belong to one storage view. When you add a new initiator to the SAP LaMa VPLEX environment, first register that initiator in VPLEX and add it to a VPLEX storage view before it can be used. Do not manually change the name of the cloned virtual volume. Do not manually add the cloned virtual volume to other views separate from the target host views.
